As a live performer hehas toured with Pure Prairie League and Maynard Ferguson. He has been the headline act at Big Orange Jazz Festival, Miami, Fort Lauderdale Jazz Festival, Coconut Grove Arts Festival, Ringling Brothers-Sarasota Jazz Festival, Key West FantasyFest, Kool Jazz Festival, Miami, Atlanta Jazz Festival, Summer Lights Festival, and Franklin Jazz Festival. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts for 26 years. The music program has won 207 “Down Beat Student Music Awards” since 1983. The Jazz and Commercial program at Booker T. Washington HSPVA has producedeight alumni with 28 Grammys over its 32-year history.Bart is a 1986 Fulbright Scholar. He founded the “Arts Jazz Festival” raising a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships, which ran from 1990 through1993. Bart has been a Selmer Clinician since 1988 and is co-author of “Jazz Figure Reading Studies” and contributing author of “Selected TrumpetMaster Classes” and IAJE/MENC’s curriculum guide “Teaching Jazz: A Course of Study.” He was an IAJE “Jazz Educators Journal” staff reviewer from1989 - 2008.Bart Marantz has toured and played with a variety of shows including Ray Charles, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, staff bandat the El Casino in Freeport Grand Bahamas, Nancy Wilson, Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons, Gladys Night and thePips, and for Norwegian Caribbean Cruise lines as part of the house band on the MS. Skyward.He has studied with jazz educators, Jerry Coker, Dan Haerle, David Baker, Jamey Aebersold, Jaki Byard, Phil Wilson andGeorge Russell at The University of Miami, Indiana University and the New England Conservatory of Music. Bart Marantzreceived the coveted “Down Beat Magazine” Achievement Award for Jazz Education” in 1993.In recent years the program at Booker T. Washington has garnered international attention by performing at The MontereyJazz Festival, The World Sax Conference, The Mid-West Conference, The International Association of Jazz Educators Conference, The Kennedy Center, The Grammy’s, NFAA Arts Recognition and Talent Search, Texas Music Educators Association, aswell as for the Prime-Minister of England, the Queen of England and for the NEA with a performance at the White Housefor the President of the United States in July of 2004.

A native of East Saint Louis, Illinois, Mrs. Curtis-Jones received music degreesfrom the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana) and the Saint Louis Conservatory of Music (Mo.). Graduate studies also include Ball StateUniversity (Ind.), the Meadowmount School (N.Y.) and the Johannsen International School of Music in Victoria, Canada.Mrs. Curtis-Jones has served as conductor with the Floyd County Youth Orchestras (Indiana), and the Debut and Huntington Orchestras (Indiana). Mrs. Curtis-Jones has previously conducted the All-West Orchestra and the All-City Orchestra festival and has served on the faculty of theMemphis Summer Music Clinic.Mrs. Curtis-Jones has performed with the Muncie, Marion, and Fort Wayne Symphonies and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. He conducts the University Orchestra and performs as singer and instrumentalist with the Mississippi Early Music Ensemble. From 1986 to 1996 he servedas Chair of the Department of Music. His Bachelor of Music degree is from Louisiana Tech University, and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree is from The Universityof Texas. In addition to his University duties, he is Music Director of the Germantown (TN) Symphony and a member of the Mockingbird Early Music Ensemble.An active guest conductor of both professional and youth orchestras, he has appeared with the Shreveport (LA) Symphony, East Texas Symphony, Jackson (TN)Symphony, and the Greenville (MS) Symphony. He has served as music director of the Tupelo (MS) Symphony and as founding music director of the Corinth (MS)Symphony. His educational activities include concerts with the Jackson (MS), Houston (TX), Memphis, and Chattanooga Youth Symphonies, as well as festivalorchestras throughout the South.His professional service includes terms as President of the String Division, Mississippi Music Educators, President of the Mississippi String Teachers Association,President of the Mississippi Association of College Music Administrators, President of the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education, and President of the MemphisYouth Symphony Board.
