PROGRAM OVERVIEWSTRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS:A PROGRAM FOR HIGH POTENTIAL WOMENSince its inception in 1997, The Commonwealth Institute (TCI) has dedicated itselfto helping professional women realize their leadership potential. We serve a diversegroup of CEOs, entrepreneurs and corporate and nonprofit executives and emergingleaders representing a wide range of industries, both large and small. Our collaborativeand unique programs and events are varied and are always focused on helpingparticipants develop personally and professionally.Strategies for Success is TCI’s most well-known leadership development program. PROGRAM VALUE &KEY DIFFERENTIATORSSTRUCTURED FOR MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESSEach participant attends four virtual sessions over a three month period. This formatis easily accessible for participants, minimizes disruption to companies, and allows eachparticipant to test on the job the critical insights they have learned before returning to thenext session.ONE-ON-ONE & GROUP MENTORSHIPA personal mentor with years of executive experience is assigned to each participant,who guides them through business challenges and coaches them in creating theirprofessional development plan. In addition, participants are given an opportunity to buildmentoring relationships with their assigned peer mentor groups through programming andextracurricular sessions.REAL-TIME, REAL-WORLD SITUATIONSEach participant spends time solving actual business challenges by working with peers,assessing options, weighing alternatives and agreeing upon solutions. By honing theircollaborative and leadership skills, they leave the program with greater self-awareness,increased proficiency and a stronger sense of accountability.ACTION PLAN FOR SUCCESSGraduates of Strategies for Success will leave with an individual development plan createdwith their supervisor’s input, directly in line with their company’s business objectives.

PROGRAM SCHEDULEDAY 1 — THINK LIKE A LEADERDay 1 kicks off with a discussion of why leadership matters, and the purpose of a leadervs. a manager. Participants will have the chance to discuss their company’s strategy andbusiness priorities to reflect on where they fit within the bigger picture. In this session,participants develop a plan to have a larger impact in their organizations. The sessionincludes an interactive panel discussion with Boston-area leaders, as well as the first halfof a two-part workshop on racial equity and inclusion.DAY 2 — SELF AWARENESS & EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCEThe second day exposes the participants to the concept of Emotion Intelligence andthe impact it can have on their personal effectiveness. Participants receive and reviewindividual EQ360 reports based on feedback compiled prior to the program. They learnhow to interpret the feedback and incorporate it into their personal development plan,and the session concludes with the second half of the racial equity workshop.DAY 3 — COMMUNICATION & FEEDBACKThe third day focuses on four leadership fundamentals - communicating, influencing,delegating, and managing up - and the practical application of these techniques in theworkplace. Participants are paired with peers to practice these fundamentals in a safe,supportive virtual environment, and they leave this session with insight into how toinspire and lead others. The session also includes a wage negotiation workshop.DAY 4 — EXECUTIVE PRESENCEThe final day stresses the importance of personal brand, presence and effectivecommunication as a leader. Participants find their authentic voice and are tasked formallycommunicating their company’s mission and vision in a small-group virtual setting.Presentations and feedback are reviewed with peers to solidify areas to work into theirpersonal development plan.“Having the ability to connect with a variety of individuals during each virtual session really helped mebuild trust with the cohort as a whole, which allowed me to be more open, honest, and vulnerable.”“I always knew that I had strong leadership skills, but had never received any guidance on how tohone them in / how best to use them.Learning about them through this program has enabled meto implement those skills and notice them in myself and also recognize them in others.”

Previously, Wendy was president and chief operating officer at edX, managing the nonprofit’s day-today operations. Wendy brings strong digital and business expertise and has successfully grown and run largeonline businesses.SUSAN HODGKINSONSusan is Principal of The Personal Brand Company, which she founded in 1994. She is a leadership developmentexpert, award-winning executive coach, and professional speaker. She has over15 years of experience in the Boston area leading workshops, trainings, and facilitated conversations.
