FForeword4Dr. Khadar Vali has brought forth the eternal truth behindkeeping good health by doing intensive research for manyyears (towards finding a lasting solution for many modernillnesses) after being deeply disturbed by the cause ofmodern illnesses and resolving to find lasting solutions forthem. The consumption of fibrous cereals like Foxtail millet,Browntop millet, Little millet, Barnyard millet, Kodo millet, etc. in the past before the use of rice and wheat was thereason why many people were not affected with diabetes. But, in the present times, eating fibreless paddy rice andwheat has led to the increase in lifestyle diseases likediabetes, cancer and many heart related problems. It is indeed commendable that Mr. Panthangi Rambabu ispresenting all the information to Telugu people (throughTelugu daily, ‘Sakshi’) that Dr. Khadar Vali has been advocatingin order to attain complete health with ‘siridhanya’ (fiveabove mentioned millets). The Telangana Retired Engineers’ Association (TREA) attemptsto present the health benefits of eating siridhanyalu and thehealth hazards of eating paddy rice and wheat through thisbooklet. We are ever grateful to the management of theTelugu daily, ‘Sakshi’ for having accepted our request topublish the articles herewith in this form.We earnestly wish and hope that people take this bookas a guide in getting inspired to switching over to eatingonly ‘Siridhanya’, get rid of various diseases and becomecompletely healthy. TTranslator’sNote6The remarkable contribution of Dr. Khadar Vali to thefields of food and health lies in highlighting the fact thatthe ratio of dietary fibre to carbohydrates present indifferent foods largely determines the health of peoplewho consume them. Besides, his unrelenting work asan independent food scientist and health expert isunparalleled since he not only discovered the medicinalproperties of the much forgotten cereals called milletsbut also successfully recommended them for patients ofvarious diseases for cure. Further, Dr. Khadar Vali’s in-depthknowledge of human-induced environmental pollutionled him to see the interconnections among the modernchemical farming methods, indiscriminate use of naturalresources with respect to agriculture, production of toxicfood, deteriorated health of humans and other species, ecological imbalance and global warming on the planet. The comprehensive understanding of varied related issueshas also prompted him to advocate an integrated approachtowards life that is very natural and simple. The revivalof age-old farming system called ‘Kadu krishi’ (Junglefarming), which goes a long way in regenerating the soiland forests, by Dr. Khadar Vali is a testimony to that. This booklet is a compilation of various articles presentingthe invaluable information on siridhanyalu and theirimpact on human health. The original compiler and chiefcontributor, Mr. Pantangi Rambabu of the Telugu newsdaily, ‘Sakshi’ has effectively captured the essence ofDr. Khadar’s subject on siridhanyalu. He has discussedthe subject in detail targeting the average reader. So, the repetition of information is deliberate aimingat reiteration. The information about the cultivationtechniques of siridhanyalu and their processing methodsmake the booklet relevant for farmers as well. In fact, Dr.Khadar wants farmers to accrue the benefits of growingand eating siridhanyalu for their financial and physicalwellbeing. The first hand experience of growing some siridhanyalucrops for the past three years and eating all the five typesmyself for over a year now has come handy in appreciatingthe information and translating the text from Telugu toEnglish.I cannot thank Dr. Khadar Vali enough for posing faith in meand entrusting me with the task of translation.Wish and hope the readers of this English version wouldbenefit as much as I did!P. Kishore ChandraEcological farming practitionerProddatur, Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh7A native of Proddatur town, Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh,Dr. Khadar Vali(60) has been working relentlessly in revivingsiridhanyalu for the past twenty odd years. After graduatingwith Masters in Science (with specialisation in Education)from the Regional Institute of Education, Mysuru, he did PhDon steroids from the Indian Institute of Sciences, Bengaluru. He married his classmate Ms. Usha.Dr. Khadar pursued his post doctoral research on fellowshipon environmental science from Beaverton Oregon, UnitedStates of America. His research was on deactivating deadlychemical substances like Agent Orange and Dioxins. At thetime when food was being rapidly commercialised,Dr. Khadar felt that instead of working in a foreign countryfor a living it is meaningful to strive for a healthy society inhis own country. So, he returned to India from the US in 1997and settled down in Mysuru. There he worked hard to revivefive different types of millets that were fast disappearing. In the process of consuming each of these millets hediscovered that the healing properties present in them couldcure even deadly diseases. Hence he named these five typesof millets, ‘siridhanyalu ’.In order to cultivate them very naturally Dr. Khadarpropounded a method called ‘Kadu Krishi (Junle Farming). He has been treating (practices Homeopathy non formally)his patients of their diseases by recommending theconsumption of ‘siridhanyalu ’ rices, drinking of differentplant/tree leaf decoctions and with Homeo medicines indire cases. He firmly opines that paddy rice, wheat, milk, non-vegetarianfood, untimely eating habits, genetically modified crops, chemical fertilizers, synthetic pesticides, herbicides areinstrumental in polluting the environment and food andthereby leading to the quick spread of lethal diseases.Dr. Khadar claims that preventing and curing diabetes, hypertension, obesity, constipation, piles, gangrene, triglycerides, PCOD, low sperm count, skin diseases, kidney and thyroid related disorders, proved by consumingsiridhanyalu. ‘siridhanyalu’ also keep away brain and bloodrelated diseases. He is adored by the people of Karnataka,Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and pulls big crowds to hisfood/health talks there.Dr. Khadar ValiIndependent forest agricultural scientist andfood expertMysuruBBriefBiography

8NMove backto NatureMove back to Natureworship and revere NATURE!!Is it true that diseases like cancer are being healedby you with ‘siridhanyalu ’ like Foxtail, Kodomillets, etc.?Yes, it is true. For the past twenty years we havegot results through what I have believed in andrecommended. In fact, taking safe/healthy foodgives us a great deal of good health. In the interestof people’s good health, God has created a largevariety of foods in different parts of the world. But,we are hit by a crisis by sticking to just paddy riceand wheat. In order to get out of this crisis we shouldwalk towards Nature. By bringing about changes inour daily diet, we can achieve total health. It is onlysiridhanyalu that have medicinal properties and cangive real health for people. It is mainly to build thisawareness we started practising ‘JUNGLE FARMING’and have been working with farmers and patients forthe past twenty years. There is a belief that cancer and diabetes arehereditary. No, diseases like cancer and diabetes are notinheritable. They are a result of the consumption ofunhealthy food and the adoption of wrong lifestylehabits mainly. Eczema and a few kinds of diseasesrelated to mental retardation only are hereditary. Inthe past cancer and diabetes cases were very rare. Now, such patients are all pervasive. The changesbrought about by the commercialisation of food aremaking people diseased.Does it mean that foreign food items are theculprits? We are not finding fault with foreign foods. Those9food items are appropriate and good to be consumedin those places. Browntop millet is called Americanmillet. In fact, Americans used to consume them inthe past. They also used to eat pumpkin. Cardiovascular diseases were not there as long as peopleate them. Only since Americans stopped eatingnatural foods and started eating industrially grownfood genetically modified foods, the number ofdiseases went up there. They do not know of asmany different kinds of grains that we do. We usedto have 108 different varieties of Foxtail millet.Americans do not have the knowledge of conservingfood diversity. Foxtail millet is called Italian millet.Americans used to eat it till a few generations ago.The crop has been wiped out without any trace ofthe seeds now. Had I not worked on reviving thecultivation of siridhanyalu by gathering these seedsafter returning from the US twenty years ago, theywould have gone extinct here also. How are different ‘siridhanyalu’ and herbaldecoctions able to cure diseases like cancer anddiabetes? What is the scientific reason behind this?siridhanyalu (which include Foxtail millet, Browntopmillet, Little millet, Barnyard millet and Kodomillet) are natural grains with medicinal propertiesoffered by the Nature. Herbal decoctions have beenan integral part of our traditional life for long now.Depending on individual co
