EDITHVALEPRIMARY SCHOOLFORTNIGHTLY NEWSLETTEREdithvale Road, Edithvale, Victoria 3196Phone: (03) 9772 1393Fax: (03) 9772 7307Web: www.edithvaleps.vic.edu.auEmail: edithvale.ps@edumail.vic.gov.auTerm 4—Week 325 October 2013Doing the Right Thing, Working Together & Aspiring HigherPRINCIPAL’S REPORTMrs Denise WebsterThe work on our oval is well underway and we arevery proud of the way in which the students aremanaging the use of the restricted yard area. Withthe additional ‘extra-curricular’ activities involvingmany more students, the impact of this reduction inspace has been minimised. We are all lookingforward to seeing the oval come to life again. Many thanks to the teachers and parents who areworking together to make our swimming program avery successful experience for all involved. There isa great deal of behind the scenes work that enableseverything to run smoothly and we appreciate thesupport that we get from our parent community.Thank you to parents who have informed us ofchanged arrangements for 2014. Please let us knowas soon as possible if your child is not attending EPSnext year, as we are about to begin the process ofconstructing classes and designing our transitionprogram for later in the term. If you have anyadditional information you believe is relevant to usabout your child’s learning needs as we begin thisprocess, please let me know as soon as possible. Please note, however, that this is not an invitationto request particular teachers. Determining thecomposition of classes for 2014 is a comprehensiveprocess and consideration is given to the needs ofall students.Important Note to Parents/GuardiansUnder the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008,schools are required to: request information from parents on theimmunisation status of each child prior toenrolment take a copy of the sighted document andrecord information on the immunisation statusof each enrolled child. Most recent figures indicate that 20-25 per cent ofVictorian primary school entrants are not meetingthis legislative requirement to present animmunisation status certificate when enrolling inprimary school. In the event of an infectiousdisease outbreak, unimmunised children andchildren whose immunisation status is unknownbecause no certificate has been presented may beexcluded from attending school until the risk ofinfection has passed. The most common type of immunisation statuscertificate is a Child History Statement from theAustralian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR).Parents are sent a statement when their child turnsfive; however they can request a statement fromACIR at any time.If this documentation has not already beenprovided to the school for your child, you willreceive a letter from us next week. Please assist usby forwarding a copy of the relevant certificate sothat we can meet our departmentalresponsibilities.ATHLETICSMr James WhitlaOver the past 2 weeks, 15 of our studentscompeted in the Divisional Athletics Carnival. These students had won selection to these trialsafter winning their event at our District Carnivalduring Term 3.
