We thank Mary Ellenfor her great work on the SocialCommitteeoverthelast fewyears. Several of our members havestepped up to make sure we cancontinue our social events which areso enjoyable for our members andguests.Gabi Van Wie, Linda Perkins andothers made sure we had a greatAwards Banquet. Thanks to both of you.Additionally on Public Relations, BethDumesco has made sure we havecoverage in the Spin Sheet and we areexploring other avenues to publicizeour events to our members and thosewho might want to attend and join.The March 16th Spring Training will beorganized by Irene Aronian. We havethe Retrospective at the March Brunchon March 17 with the generalmembership and board meeting laterthat afternoon. Check Fleet Exercisesfor the details.The Board will organize a long rangeplanning conference for the club madeup of new, midterm, long and lifemembers as well as committee chairsand the Board to help develop a 1, 3and 5 year plan for the club. Issues tobediscussedwillmembership,financial, safety, technology, publicrelations, and ways to plan for thingslikeelectronicchangesincommunication that will affect us in thefuture. These will help us be ahead ofthe curve rather than trying to playcatch up. Check Out These Events!Flare and Safety DaySaturday, April 27Dockside TrainingSaturday, April 27On Saturday afternoon we will meetdockside aboard member's boats inan afternoon session structured tosimulate an SOS cruise. TheSkipper and First Mate will conductstandard pre-cruise information andsafety briefing, and will then workwith attendees to provide hands-ontraining about all aspects of the boatand how it works. For thoseattendees who are ready to do so, it is usually possible tocomplete some of the Basic Skills I & II checkoutrequirements as well. Be sure to bring your Basic Skillsforms with you. Go to the SOS web page under Forms andSuch, then Education where you will find the Basic SkillsCheck out Forms as well as the manual.It’s time to start getting ready for the upcoming sailingseason! Join us for Flare and Safety Day where we learnnew safety skills and brush up on the old ones. Memberswill be able to view and practice the use of different types offlares, extinguish flames with a fire extinguisher, practicetossing lines, simulate the use of a passing line, and more.This event is held on the beach at Camp Wabanna locatedon the Rhode River, not far from Annapolis, from 9:00 to12:00. Safety is always a high priority in the club, so join usto work on these important skills and at the same time,have a lot of fun!Questions?
