We havefound that you can spend countless hours in the city, wanderingthrough all the unique neighborhoods, at the historical monuments,and our many museums. We also have ventured out to explore nearbyareas, including Arlington or Alexandria in Virginia, and NationalHarbor, Annapolis, and Baltimore in Maryland.We’ve taken part in the region’s many outdoor activities, such asbiking and hiking trails, kayaking, paddle boarding, and boatingalong the Potomac River. Residents frequently venture out to theShenandoah National Park area, which offers tubing, white riverrafting, and camping. Resident ExperienceOur program is built on a diverse clinical experience, complemented by a carefully structured didactic curriculum.As part of MedStar Health, we have access to the vast, clinical resources throughout this growing region. Student ExperienceRequirements and ApplicationRotations and ResponsibilitiesAll applications are accepted through the nationalclerkship application process. All student clerks musthave a minimum GPA of 3.2 and a minimum class rank of50 percent. There is no clerkship fee associated with theapplication. A car is highly recommended for the durationof this clerkship, although one is not mandatory.Student clerks will spend two weeks at MedStarWashington Hospital Center and two weeks at MedStarGeorgetown University Hospital.HousingStudents may choose to explore housing optionsthrough Airbnb, rotating room, extended stay hotels, andapartment search engines. A few residents also rent outspare apartment rooms. Student clerks have chosen tobecome roommates during their externship, to divide thecost of housing. Housing near either MedStar WashingtonHospital Center or MedStar Georgetown UniversityHospital is recommended.During this time, clerks will participate in the inpatientward setting, outpatient clinics at the hospital, and theoperating room setting at our two main hospitals. Theywill attend all weekly academic meetings during theirmonth with the residents, including any scheduled off-sitelabs.
