Paperwork is required of each student for every term inwhich the minor student enrolls.f. Those under18 who have a high school diploma are also eligible. Exceptions tothe minimum age requirement can be made for a student whosubmits a “Minor Enrollment Request Form.”(See “Procedures forEnrollment of Minors in Noncredit Classes” below.)A new admissions application for the current semester must besubmitted by any student who was not enrolled at SBCC for the priorsemester. If an inperson class is full, students are encouraged to show up to thefirst class meeting in case of no-shows. A student who does notattend the first meeting of a class may be dropped. Students meet with anadvisor to create an individualized learning plan, and work one-onone with faculty and in small groups with other students. Coursework focuses on family andconsumer science and the value of homemaking. This area ofinstruction provides educational opportunities in family studies andgerontology, fashion, textiles, interior design and merchandising.Students develop applicable skills in home-based subjects throughhands-on projects and exercises.Courses for Older Adults are offered tuition-free to communitymembers and offer a wide variety of topics taught by skilledprofessionals in each subject. Our classes are specifically designedfor adults age 55 and over, and offer a welcoming and engagingenvironment for students of all levels. Students develop mentalacuity and physical dexterity while learning and honing new skills ina variety of topics.PARENTINGThe Parenting Program offers parents of pre-kindergarten agechildren classes in two different supportive environments: “ParentingSkills” classes teach skills to parents of three-month old infants tofive-year olds in age-specific groups, and parents attend class withtheir children. In the “Parent Child Workshops,” parents must registerfor both a weekly morning lab section with their child and also aweekly evening lecture. Children in classes at the Parent ChildWorkshops are 2.5 to 5 years old.
