WELCOME TO IMD!Welcome to the International Institute for Management Development’s (“IMD” or “We”)!We thank you for your interest in IMD and your choice to invest in your future: To learnwith a community of peers who share your ambition and desire to make an impact andwho are highly diverse in their experiences, perspectives and goals; To learn with acommunity of faculty and staff who are dedicated to creating the best global leadershipexperience anywhere; To set the direction and prepare you for the enriching learningjourney that lies ahead of you.Our programs reflect and encourage the norms of sound business practices. They havespecific and rigorous requirements, which mirror in particular their value and reputation.To meet both the professional and academic objectives, a number of ground rules mustbe established and respected, which are provided in these general Terms and Conditions(the “Terms”).II. SCOPE AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONSThese Terms detail the various rules and conditions that apply to your application,enrolment in, participation to and alumni-status linked to the following programs(together, the “Programs”):-MBA;Executive MBA (“EMBA”);Open Programs;These Terms represent an agreement between you and IMD for all general elementsrelated to the Programs. By applying to a Program as well as by being enrolled in it (afterthe acceptance of your application by IMD), you acknowledge having fully read andunderstood these Terms and accept to be bound and comply by all rules contained herein.Please note that these Terms apply specifically to Programs (including the Alumni statusthat may be granted to you upon successful completion) and not other topics that may berelevant to your relationship with IMD. This exclusion covers, in particular, any specificagreement with IMD regarding your travel, visas, accommodation or social activities eitherduring or after your participation in a Program.Additional rules and details may apply to each Program, based on information-sheets andother documents communicated to you before, during and/or after completion of theProgram. Such additional rules and details shall fully apply to you, in addition to theseTerms. In case of discrepancy between these Terms and the additional rules and details,these Terms shall prevail, unless the additional rules and details provide otherwise byspecifically referring to these Terms.Should you have any questions regarding these Terms, please contact us by using theemail address mbainfo@imd.org.

IMD Program - Terms and conditionsThese Terms may not be modified, superseded or otherwise replaced, fully or in part, byother terms, conditions, contractual clauses or sets of rules that would be communicatedto IMD, unless they are accepted and signed in writing by duly authorized representativesof IMD. In particular, any communication to IMD of such other terms, conditions,contractual clauses or other sets of rules (regardless of the way it is communicated toIMD) shall not be held as a valid modification of these Terms and IMD will not be requiredto respond to such communication.III. INFORMATION ON AND APPLICATION TO PROGRAMSa) In generalThe possibility to apply to any Program offered by IMD is subject to the conditions andlimitations that are detailed in these Terms as well as, where applicable, in any applicationform. Overall, IMD Programs are developed and focused towards excellence and animpactful learning journey.The completion of any application form (in paper or online), or any other request to enrolin a Program, does not itself entitle you to be enrolled, or in any way participate, in anysuch Program, or otherwise benefit from IMD education.IMD remains, at all stages of an application procedure, entirely at liberty to continue ordiscontinue an application and enrolment procedure. IMD has the sole and entire discretionto abandon the application and enrolment process at any time. While not an obligation,IMD shall, as a rule, notify of the discontinuation or the rejection of your application. Suchnotification does not need to be motivated nor implies any right to receive the reasons forthe discontinuation or rejection of any application.b) Brochures and other information on ProgramsIn order to allow you receiving all relevant and required information on Programs you areinterested in, downloading a Program brochure from the IMD website requires your nameand an email address. IMD may contact you thereafter to provide you with additionalinformation on the relevant Program.The brochure’s content is non-contractual and may not be used to request any specialdelivery or performance in the context of a Program.c) My-IMD profileWhen applying to a Program, you will need to create a My-IMD profile. All informationprovided therein must respect these Terms.d) Application deadlineWhen the application to a Program is limited by a specific deadline, the full and completeapplication must be received by IMD prior to the expiry of such deadline. Unless otherwiseprovided in the application form, the expiry deadline shall be considered as 11:59 PM onthe day itself.Any application not received by IMD prior to the stated deadline, including all supportingdocuments, shall not be considered.2

IMD Program - Terms and conditionsIt is your full responsibility to ensure that all required information, supporting documentsand other elements of the application form are well received by IMD. IMD may not be heldliable for any problem encountered with the filing of an application form, including whendone through IMD’s website or any other IMD platform.When filing an application form through IMD’s website or any other IMD platform, youshould receive an automatic confirmation email through the email address you provided.Should you not receive such an email, you must contact IMD immediately.e) Application contentIt is your responsibility to ensure that all the information, and supporting documentsprovided in the context of the application to a Program, is true, accurate, complete and inno-way misleading or deceptive.IMD remains free to request, at any time, any additional document, information or elementof proof in relation to your application.Please note that, once accepted in a Program, IMD may proceed with a background checkusing an external company mandated for this purpose. In this context, IMD will share allor part of the information provided in your application to the aforesaid external company,strictly for this purpose. Background checks are always done for the MBA Program.Should one or more elements of information and/or supporting documents transpire to bewrong, inaccurate or otherwise misleading or deceptive, IMD may cancel enrolment,exclude participation in the Program and withdraw any award, certification or degree tobe awarded. This shall also apply when failing to cite sources or using the work of othersin your application. In such a case, no reimbursement of any Fees (as detailed under para.XI of these Terms) shall be made. IMD reserves the right to claim compensation for anyprejudice suffered.f)Application FeeThe application to some of the Programs requires an Application Fee. The amount of suchApplication Fee is detailed in the information provided as applicable to the relevantProgram.Any application form or request shall only be processed after the full payment of theApplication Fee. The payment is effective as soon as the full amount of the Application Feeis received in IMD’s bank account.The amount of the Application Fee shall be definitively retained by IMD. No reimbursementof the Application Fee is possible, including in case of failure to file the application (as suchor in due time), rejection of the application or any other reason for which you would notbe enrolled in any Program.IV. ENROLLMENT AND ACCEPTANCE INTO A PROGRAMa) AcceptanceShould you be accepted by IMD as a participant to a Program, IMD shall notify you byemail. The email address to be used is that with which you communicate upon enrolment.3

IMD Program - Terms and conditionsThe acceptance communication shall contain required information linked to the Program,as well as the registration steps and other formalities that are required. As a rule, youshall have a fixed deadline to confirm your acceptance in the Program.Where applicable, a signed version of these terms must be sent to IMD with theconfirmation of acceptance.It is your entire responsibility to ensure that all acceptance formalities are met in due time,including confirmation of your acceptance. Failure to do so may lead to your exclusionfrom the Program and withdrawal of IMD’s acceptance.b) My-IMD profileOnce accepted into a Program, you shall be required to update your My-IMD profile withany additional required information or create such a profile should you not yet have one.c) Changes to a ProgramAll of IMD Programs are flexible and development focused. Therefore, IMD shall at all timesmaintain the right to execute changes to any of its Programs, including after youracceptance. Such changes may affect any aspect of the Program, including generalcontent, course descriptions and content, design, speakers and professors, etc.d) Cancellation of a ProgramShould the Program be cancelled after your acceptance, for whatever reason, IMD willmake every effort to transfer you to a replacement Program during the same year, or fora subsequent year.You may refuse to be transferred to a replacement Program by notifying IMD of suchrefusal within a 30 days period after the receipt of the replacement decision. IMD must benotified and receive the refusal within the aforesaid deadline. Failing the receipt of suchnotification, you shall be considered as accepting the transfer to the replacement Program.Should you not wish to be transferred to a replacement Program, or should a specificreplacement Program not be available, any Program Fee shall be reimbursed to you inconformity with the relevant Articles in this document. IT IS EXPRESSLY SPECIFIED ANDUNDERLINED THAT NO FURTHER RESPONSIBILITY SHALL BE ENCOUNTERED BY IMDFURTHER TO SUCH CANCELATION OF A PROGRAM, INCLUDING FOR ANY COSTS THATYOU WOULD HAVE IN RELATION TO YOUR PARTICIPATION IN A PROGRAM SUCH ASTRAVEL COSTS OR HOUSING COSTS.V. PARTICIPATION IN A PROGRAM AND GENERAL CONDUCTIMD expects participants to conduct themselves professionally at all times.Participants are required to act professionally when on and off campus, when representingIMD, or otherwise impacting IMD’s reputation.Failure to comply with the principles outlined below, or in any way deemed relevant toIMD, shall be qualified as unprofessional behaviour and may result in sanctions, includingexclusion from a Program.4

IMD Program - Terms and conditionsProfessional IntegrityParticipants are expected to behave with integrity and to abide by all applicable rules.Certain behaviours are deemed unacceptable including, but not limited to, the following: Behaviour that is offensive, disrespectful, demeaning or oppressive and underminesthe positive environment necessary for learning. Arriving late or leaving early fromprogram weeks, coming late to class, entering and leaving class while in sessionsurfing smartphones, leaving group work discussions are considered disruptivebehaviours. Failing to cite sources or using the work of others as one’s own work. Deceiving or misrepresenting oneself in an injurious way to peers, faculty, IMDteam or any third parties. Unprofessional or disrespectful behaviour while representing IMD in globallocations. Contributing less than an equal or one’s fair share to group assignments. Receiving external support for assignments (team or individual) other thanediting/proof-reading for language syntax. Disrespect of program deadlines and attendance requirements.This list is by no means exhaustive. Participants are always expected to display appropriatestandards of ethics, integrity and professionalism in their actions and relationships.IMD’s ReputationIMD’s institutional reputation is an endowment from which all participants benefit.Consequently, it must be protected and reinforced. All participants to any Program areexpected to abide by the laws of Switzerland. In addition, engaging in any action ordisplaying any attitude that may affect the reputation of IMD negatively shall be consideredunprofessional and will not be tolerated.Punctuality and Attendance – for MBA and EMBA Programs onlyIn GeneralIMD’s learning methods and the professionalism of the business environment rely on theactive involvement of all participants. Therefore punctual, regular and committedparticipation in all Programs and Program activities is required.This includes (where applicable) assignment submissions, classes and other programsession attendance, study group preparation in addition to all other activities andsubmission requests integral to the Program.Any delay in submitting a paper, even if only by a few minutes, will be recorded as late.Non-compliance with assignment requirements for submission will be returned for revision.Papers or works that are late or do not follow the requirements for submission maynegatively affect any grades that would be given.Exceptional cases may require supporting documentation from the participant by theappropriate authority to justify the delay. Implications for extended medical disability willbe handled on a case-by-case basis. When a medical or family emergency occurs, aparticipant must inform IMD immediately. Such information is considered confidential anddeleted at the end of the Program.5

IMD Program - Terms and conditionsAbsences from program modules or other types of activities must be made up. In anydegree-granting program, attendance to all Program activities is a requirement forgraduation.Guests are not permitted to attend IMD Programs or events, unless previously authorizedand communicated (e.g. at closing cocktails).Specifically for EMBA ProgramsLate submissions or absences from program-scheduled activities are authorized only formedical or family emergency situations. Requests for extensions due to professionalreasons will not be accepted.VI.PROGRAM DEGREES, GRADING AND EVALUATIONSIMD is at liberty to identify and determine the applicable grading system and criteria. EachParticipant shall be informed of the details and changes of the Program grading system.a) Programs with degrees in generalThe following Programs offer a degree upon successful completion of requirements:- MBA;- EMBA.The obtention of a degree, as well as all grades that are given to the participants, shall bedecided by the faculty members and other course providers responsible for eachassignment within the Program.It is essential for IMD to ensure that any grading and evaluations are done according toclear standards. The goal of graded feedback is to maintain degree standards and toensure the acquisition of learning. The level of feedback is at the discretion of the facultymember responsible for each assignment.b) Programs without degreesThe following Programs do not lead to the obtention of a degree:- Open Programs;For these Programs, the participants shall receive, upon request, a certificate ofattendance on the condition that attendance and participation requirements specified foreach Program are met.c) Grading within a Program with degreeFor MBA Programs:Grading scaleIndividual course grades are calculated based on for example class participation, group assignments,individual assignments, examinations, and peer evaluations. Please refer to the syllabus for each coursefor a precise description of its approach to participant evaluation.Professors will award grades for each evaluated deliverable on a 5-point scale:0.00 – 1.491.50 – 2.49No evidence of competenceUnacceptable Does not demonstrate meeting basic requirements for knowledge6

IMD Program - Terms and conditions2.50 – 3.493.50 – 4.494.50 – 5.00Basic Meets very basic expectations for demonstrated competence in knowledge andapplicationGood Exceeds basic expectations for competence, shows more comprehensiveapplication and mastery in applicationExcellent Greatly surpasses expectations for competence, demonstrates high levels ofmastery in application, develops new insightsAn overall program grade of 3.00 is required for graduation, with no single course grade lower than 2.50.A participant is placed on probation if the average module or program grade is lower than 3.00 or ifhe/she earns a course grade lower than 2.50.Course grades that are below 2.50 will lead to a retake exam. While your retake exam will be graded likeany other exam, the maximum grade which will be attributed to you in the exam is 2.5 (the minimumrequired to pass). If a participant fails a retake he/she will be dismissed from the program.A participant receiving a grade below 2.50 in two or more courses of any module of the program may bedismissed from the program immediately without course retakes.Grade reviewAll grades assigned are final and not subject to review or negotiation. This is the case for specificdeliverables as well as for final course, module and program grades.RELEASE OF PERFORMANCE INFORMATIONStrict rules are followed in releasing information on participants’ performance. The purpose of theserules is to protect the participants (and eventually alumni) from misinterpretation and misuse ofassessment and feedback information.Participants receive the following information: Individual feedback from professors at the end of each moduleSummarized feedback from the MBA office at the end of each moduleAt the end of the program, the names of participants who have been granted the MBA degreeand who have been granted the MBA degree with honoursAt the request of a participant or alumni, the MBA office can prepare a statement certifying that theindividual has successfully completed the IMD MBA program, whether he/she has received the MBAdegree with honours or received a special recognition from the MBA program. In each case, thepercentage of MBA participants receiving these distinctions could be included in the statement.Outsiders with reason may receive the following, which is considered to be in the public domain: The list of participants receiving the MBA degree and the percentage of the entering classthey representThe list of participants receiving the MBA degree with honours and the percentage of theclass they representThe list of participants receiving a special recognition from the program and the percentageof the class they representThe list of participants who have been dismissed from the program and the percentage ofthe class they represent7

IMD Program - Terms and conditionsIMD never communicates individual feedback or grades to outsiders.Academic HonorsThis evaluation applies to the following Programs:- MBA- EMBAParticipants with consistently excellent performance throughout the Program’s durationare eligible for the Program’s Honors List and graduate with a Degree “with Honors”. Thecriteria used to make these assessments include: Quality of all individual written assignmentsClass participation (with an emphasis on quality of remarks over quantity ofremarks)Engagement and cooperation in team environmentsWhere applicable, engagement during discovery expeditionsRespect of deadlinesProfessionalism, citizenship and commitment towards the programProbationParticipants who are not performing to standard, whether for failure to meet academicrequirements or for engaging in unprofessional conduct, may be placed on probation.While on probation, the participant is given the opportunity to restore his or her place inthe Program with improved performance or conduct. A participant is not eligible tograduate while on probation.The probation decision is taken by the Program Dean It is final.DismissalParticipants who are not demonstrating competence in the academic requirements of theProgram and/or who behave unprofessionally cannot remain in the Program. The criteriafor dismissal due to academic underachievement are explained above with the gradingdetails. In addition, unprofessional behaviour or actions damaging to the learningenvironment cannot be tolerated and may lead to dismissal. Dismissal may also imply achronic situation that does not respect academic requirements or professional conduct,and which is deemed irreversible. A participant shall obtain criteria details upon request.The formal requirement/process to dismiss a participant from the Program is not high. Thepurpose for this low threshold is to protect the academic integrity of the Program and toguarantee a positive learning environment for all other participants. Dismissal means thata participant must leave the Program and cannot re-enter the program at any point in thefuture.The dismissal decision is taken by the Program Dean. It is final and has immediate effect.d) Releasing of information on degrees and performanceStrict rules are followed in releasing information on participants’ performance. The purposeof these rules is to protect the participants from misinterpretation and misuse ofassessment and feedback information. IMD never communicates assignment feedback orother performance information to external sources, unless given the express writtenconsent of the participant. With such consent, only the information provided to theparticipant may be communicated to external sources.8

IMD Program - Terms and conditionsUpon completion of a degree Program, IMD shall issue an attestation certifying that theparticipant has successfully completed the Program.PLEASE NOTE THAT IMD DOES NOT KEEP ANY COPY OF ATTESTATIONS, DEGREES OROTHER PERFORMANCE-RELATED DOCUMENTS, BUT ONLY A WRITTEN REFERENCE THATTHE PARTICIPANT HAS OBTAINED A DEGREE FROM IMD. IT IS THEREFORE THEPARTICIPANT’S SOLE RESPONSIBILITY TO RETAIN ANY SUCH DOCUMENT SAFELY.VII. ALUMNI STATUSa) Alumni status in generalIMD is focused on enabling you to benefit from its strong executive Alumni network.All Alumni members take pride in being part of IMD’s Alumni network and have inparticular the opportunity to take part in events and other alumni-gatherings.b) Granting of the Alumni statusThe Alumni status is granted, on the conditions specified hereunder, following theachievement of the following Programs:MBAEMBAOnline ProgramsThe granting of Alumni status is subject to the imperative condition that the participanthas successfully completed one of the Programs listed above.The Alumni status is an essential component of the Programs referred to above. Providedthe required conditions are met, every participant is automatically granted the Alumnistatus and shall be treated as such. Each Alumni member remains at liberty to take anactive part in the Alumni community either through the Alumni Clubs, Alumni events,gatherings or meetings.c) Components of the Alumni statusThe Alumni status comprises of the following elements:- Receipt of regular information on IMD and the Alumni network, including specificinformation relating to the Alumni member’s own Program;- Regular invitations to meetings, reunions and other events by IMD;- Access to a My-IMD account;- Reference and access to the Alumni directory;d) Responsibility of the Alumni memberAs a member of the Alumni network and community, the Alumni member must alwaysensure to behave with integrity and to abide by the law. Engaging in any action ordisplaying any attitude that may affect the reputation of IMD negatively shall beconsidered unprofessional and will not be tolerated.The Alumni status may exceptionally be revoked or withdrawn:- If the Alumni member violates the obligations and responsibilities specified underthis clause; or9

IMD Program - Terms and conditions-If the Alumni member does not fulfil all obligations towards IMD, especially byreimbursement of any loans, fees or other amounts that would be due in relationto the Program.The decision is taken by the Program Dean and is final.In case of the revocation or withdrawal of the Alumni status, the concerned person shallno longer benefit from the various components mentioned in this clause. The person maynot either present herself anymore as part of the Alumni network. It is specified that sucha revocation or withdrawal does not affect the validity of the degree received by theparticipant.e) Alumni communicationsEach Alumni member shall be regularly updated on the activities of IMD as well as of theAlumni network, including by receiving specific information relating to the Alumnimember’s own Program. Surveys may also be sent to the Alumni members in relation totheir experience with IMD and the Program.Such communications are, as a rule, sent through email by using the email addresscommunicated by the Alumni member to IMD through the My-IMD account. Thesecommunications compose an essential part of the Alumni status.Each Alumni member shall benefit from a My-IMD account. Such an account enables theAlumni member to update and/or change his personal information (including his emailaddress) as well as define any privacy settings and preferences. It is the Alumni’sresponsibility to ensure that their personal information is up-to-date.Should you wish to limit the communications received from IMD as an Alumni member,you may at any time change the privacy settings through your My-IMD account. Takenote, in such a case, that:- You will not receive any invitations, news or other information relating to the Alumninetwork and community;- IMD may continue sending you required communications relating to the existenceof your Alumni status and/or the follow-up of your Program.f)Alumni ClubsAlumni members may join any existing Alumni Clubs.The Alumni Clubs are separate and independent legal entities that are not directly linkedto, nor integrated within, IMD. Considering the links that exist within the Alumni network,IMD may however relay information or invitations to events stemming from the AlumniClubs to Alumni members.Upon completion of a Program, IMD shall communicate the name, postal address and emailaddress of the recent Alumni member to the Alumni Club based on the member’s place ofresidence or work. This transfer is aimed at enabling the Alumni Club to make contact withthe Alumni member and extend an invitation to join the Alumni Club.In order to enable Alumni Clubs to keep in touch with their members and other Alumnimembers within their geographical scope, while ensuring at all times the correctness ofthe information and avoid unnecessary duplication, IMD provides each Alumni Club withaccess to a platform hosted by IMD. Such platform is solely provided for Alumni-relatedactivities organized by the Alumni Clubs and contains only the following information:10

IMD Program - Terms and conditions-Contact information (name, postal address [professional and private], emailaddress [professional and private] and telephone number) of the Alumni member;Gender of the Alumni memberCurrent professional status of the Alumni member;Program completed by the Alumni member.Please note that IMD holds no control on the activities, gatherings or other eventsorganized by the Alumni Clubs and may not be held responsible for any prejudice thatwould be suffered further to their actions.g) Alumni directoryIMD keeps a directory listing all members of the Alumni network with their names andcontact details. This information is based on the information provided in your My-IMDprofile. You may at all times modify, through your My-IMD profile, the available informationon the Alumni directory. It is your responsibility to ensure that this information is up-todate. You may request at any time that your contact details be deleted from the Alumnidirectory.This directory is available to all members of the Alumni network (to the exclusion of thirdparties) and enables to keep contact within the network. The information provided throughthe Alumni directory is intended solely for use within the Alumni network. It may not becopied, transferred or otherwise communicated to third-parties, nor used in any way thatwould be incompatible with the responsibility of the Alumni members pursuant to theseTerms.h) Alumni communitiesAlumni communities are composed of Alumni Clubs, expert communities and Programcommunities.VIII. PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATAa) Processing of personal data in generalIn the context of the Programs, IMD needs to process personal data relating to you. Suchprocessing is done at all stages linked to the Programs, i.e. downloading of information,application, enrolment, participation and management of the Alumni network.All processing activities of personal data by IMD is subject to and framed by IMD’s PrivacyNotice. This Privacy Notice is available on IMD’s website.IMD is not responsible for the processing of personal data by other participants ofPrograms, including when such processing is done in the context of a Program, on IMD’spremises and/or otherwise during an event or activity organized by, or linked to, IMD. Itis every participant’s responsibility to ensure that the processing of personal data respectsall applicable laws, especially the Swiss Federal Data Protection Act.b) Pictures and videosPictures and videos may be taken on behalf of IMD during events at IMD (conferences,dinner-parties, etc.) as well as in the context of the Programs. Such pictures and videosconstitute an essential part of the Programs, as they allow both IMD and each participantto communicate on the Programs, their attendance and the events organized.11
