2.15 Plan of Action by IQAC/OutcomeThe plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards qualityenhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year *Plan of ActionAchievementsThe IQAC Cell at MIET hascreated a Quality and StrategicRoadmap which acts as aguiding framework for allexecutive plans and policydecisions at MIET. The IQACAnnual Calendar of the year isattached as Annexure 1a) MIET participated in QCI D.L.Shah Quality awards 2016, andwas conferred with the National Level Quality Council ofIndia Platinum Award for PI-360. MIET was the onlytechnical institution in India to receive this award.b) MIET also received the “Ricoh Education Excellence Award”for “Best use of Technology in Student Services” in February2016 for the Performance Insight 360 software.c) IQAC successfully conducted NAAC sponsored NationalSeminar for 2 days in the month of October.d) Performance Insight 360 – the quality analytics framework,conceptualized and implemented indigenously at MIET hasemerged as the major contribution of the IQAC cell. Theframework has received rave reviews from industry, academia,Government and the University of Jammu alike. A culture ofquality and transparency has been created which has helpedthe institution address grey areas while building on itsstrengths.e) In accordance with the ISO 9001:2015 standard which is thelatest version from ISO, 2 members from the instituteincluding QAO underwent training programme of LeadAuditor from BSCIC.f) The IQAC initiated “Evaluating Teaching Effectiveness”program for the faculty having an overall experience below5yrs. Provide the details of the action takenThe Board of Directors of the institution is the highest decision making body of the institute comprising agalaxy of eminent educationists including 3 former Vice-Chancellors. The BoD is apprised of all theIQAC activities including submission of the AQAR and major achievements and outcomes. Automated guidance and counselling is provided to all students through the PI 360 softwarewhich is major innovation. Student performance is benchmarked and a detailed email in whichthe relative performance of the students is evaluated automatically is sent every 2 months. Thisprovides the students a transparent performance feedback and motivates them to enhance theirperformance further. Third party assessments from AMCAT, Wheebox and Linkedin were organized for 500 pre-finaland final year students. A Skill Development Matrix is being put in place to allow students to develop industry-relevantskills during each semester of study. An Activity Lecture has been introduced in the timetable ona daily basis to cater to specialized activities designed for skill enhancement. A plethora of workshops (SpyBotics, Mat Lab, Robotics, Animation, Cyber Security, EthicalHacking) and trainings (IIT Certifications on emerging Technologies) were organized by theinstitute both internally and externally for the benefit of the students. In 2016 over 15 technicalworkshops were organized for the students. Students are encouraged to attend Webinars and MOOC courses and get certification. Industrial Visits and Distinguished Lectures were organized under the Invited Lecture Series. Early experiments in “Flipped Classrooms” were undertaken. Research and Patent workshop was also organized for students. Centre for Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship established at MIET. 2 Student Patents were also filed in 2016. Innovative events such as codathons and hackathons are organized regularly to provide diverseexposure to students. I-Survive Boot Camp is a yearly affair, compulsory for all the students of all semesters, whichhelps them learn Life skills in tough conditions. 2.8 Examination/ Evaluation Reforms initiated bythe Institution (for example: Open Book Examination, Bar Coding,Double Valuation, Photocopy, Online Multiple Choice Questions)a. Evaluation of students is based on both Continuous Assessment (internal) and the EndSemester Examinations (external) with an allotment of 50% marks for each.b. Student Support and Progression5.1 Contribution of IQAC in enhancing awareness about Student Support Servicesa) IQAC routinely works with the Student Support Services Committee of the institution inobtaining student feedback. The system further sends out automated guidance and counselling messages tothe students apprising them of their individual performance and in relation to their peers.Gamification Module has been added in the tool to encourage healthy competition in thestudent peer group and create a culture which recognizes holistic performance.Remedial classes are organized for students whose performance is not up to the mark andthey are recommended to the departments for specialized monitoring and mentoring.Departmental reviews are conducted regularly to monitor student pass percentage andprogression.Each student is assigned a faculty mentor who in turn mentors around 15 students. Thementor meets with the students once in 30 days and takes stock of the progress of thestudent and whether the student is facing some issues.
