Before receiving thisdegree they had to meet a number of qualifications and fill outan application that followed their SAE and leadership skills.The State FFA Degree is the highest degree that the MissouriFFA Association can give to its members. This degree is awardedto the top three percent of the total State FFA membership eachyear.Those from our chapter who received the State FFA Degreeinclude: Cheyenne Bannan daughter of Gary and CarmeliaBannan, Carrie Boon daughter of Mike and Elizabeth Boon,Stephen Cook son of Don and Cindy Cook, John Davis son ofBret and Darla Davis, Lauren Dietzschold daughter of Keith andLinda Dietzschold, Justin Haddakin son of Tom and ChondraTipton, Maycee Hoover daughter of Kimbra Mullenix & MarkHoover, Marie McMahan daughter of Les and Kim McMahan,Clark Morris son of David and Cindy Morris, Colton Reeter sonof Eric and Jennifer Reeter, and Cassie Reid daughter of AnitaReid and Jeff Reid. Congratulations to these indivials on theiraccomplishments.This year at the 83rd State Convention students participatedfrom Chillicothe, Bosworth, and Southwest.The Farm Management team placed 14th and earned a group IIrating. The team included Stephen Cook, Lauren Dietzschold,Maycee Hoover, and Cassie Reid.The Horses team placed 34 , with a group II rating, the teamincluded members, Devinn Ashford, Lara Hopper, Dani Moore,and Tanner Thompson.thThe Knowledge team placed 43rd and earned a group IIIrating; the team included Shantel Cooper (Alt), Matt Dupy,Quinten Lewis, Faith Peters, and Paige Peters.The Parliamentary Procedure team earned a group I rating;the team included Madi Condron, Jordan Huddleston, BridgettKieffer, Cyrsten Lollar, Lizzie McCoy, Brooke McCulley (Alt),and Blake Rasummsen.The Ag Issues team placed 2nd and earned a group I rating;the team included Stephen Cook (Tech), John Davis, CecilyDonoho, Morgan Hughes, Phoebe Purtle, Diana Nelson (Tech),Maresa Sykes, Emmy Venner, and Jennifer Waits.In Public Speaking Division II Caela Ashford received 3rdplace and a group I rating.Haley Thompson received a group I rating in ExtemporaneousSpeaking.This year there was one state winning proficiency awards, thewinner was Tanner Jones – Fruit Production.Eleven members received their State FFA Degree; thosemembers are Cheyenne Bannan, Carrie Boon, Stephen Cook,John Davis, Lauren Dietzschold, Justin Haddakin, MayceeHoover, Marie McMahan, Clark Morris, Colton Reeter, andCassie Reid.Congratulations to all of the FFA members who participatedon any contest team this year. Your hard work is a credit to eachof you as individuals.Chillicothe FFA Chapter National RankingDuring the 83rd Missouri State FFA Convention theChillicothe FFA Chapter was awarded four top honors. Thoseawards given to the chapter were Superior Chapter, 100%Membership, 10 Member Growth, and Bronze EmblemAwards.To qualify for the Superior Chapter Activity Award chaptersmust verify that their chapter members have completed atleast one activity related to each of the five quality standardsestablished within the three divisions; Student, Chapter andCommunity development. The 100% Membership Award isgiven to those chapters who have a chapter membership rosterthat is equal to or greater than the number of members of 9-12students enrolled in the schools Ag Education courses. Toqualify for the 10 Members Growth Award, chapters mustshow an increase of 10 or more members, in their membershipfrom the previous year’s roster. The Bronze emblem award isfor chapters that completed and submitted a National ChapterApplication on the state level. Selection is bases on majoractivities described in Form II of the National Chapter ActivityAward Application.The top chapters are submitted to the National FFAOrganization where they compete for the National FFA ChapterAward. The competition will be this fall at the National FFAConvention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Annual Awards and Scholarships — 2010–2011JERRY LITTON MEMORIALSCHOLARSHIPThe Jerry Litton Memorial FamilyFoundation will present a 5,000and a 3,000 scholarship to agraduating senior in the ChillicotheChapter.The recipient must show evidenceof strong leadership potential asdemonstrated in FFA, school andcommunity activities, and plans tocontinue his/her formal education.JACKIE SKIPPER MEMORIALFFA SCHOLARSHIPThe Skipper family and friendswill present a 500 scholarship to agraduating senior in the ChillicotheFFA Chapter.The recipient must show evidenceof strong leadership potential asdemonstrated in FFA, school,exhibiting livestock and communityactivities, and plans to continue his/her formal education.RUSTY AND KARIE BLACKLITTON AWARDThe Litton Foundation willpresent a 500 award to a graduatingsenior in the Chillicothe Chapter inhonor of Rusty and Karie Black.The recipient must showevidence of strong leadershippotential as demonstrated in FFA,school and community activities.The FFA member receiving thisaward has exhibited dedicationto the Chillicothe FFA Chapterthroughout their four years ofmembership.SENIOR AGRI-BUSINESSAWARDThis award will be given annuallyto a senior student enrolled in theAgri-Business placement programwho is planning to further his/hereducation in a two- or four-yearcollege program.The award is designed torecognize the student who has donean outstanding job while in theAgri-Business placement programand demonstrated leadership abilitynow and in his/her future careerplans.This award is sponsored by Boband Pat Smith and will be in theamount of 100 and a plaque.CHILLICOTHE STATE BANKAWARDThe Chillicothe State Bankpresents a trophy and a 75 check toa member of ninth through twelfthgrade classes.The award is based on quality andscope of the member’s knowledge ofrecord keeping and management.Previous winners are LaurenDietzschold, Leslee Moore, DanielNowland, and Maycee Hoover.ANNUAL AGRI-BUSINESSAWARDSChillicothe Animal Hospital, Dr.Ross presents a trophy and a 75check to the outstanding memberof each ninth through twelfth gradeclass.The award is based on leadership,participation, career developmentand FFA goals.Previous winners are MarieMcMahan, Jordan Huddleston,Nick Koenig, Colton Reeter, andMadison Boyles.SAVAGE MEAT AWARDThe Savage Meat Award ispresented to a student who showsthe most aptitude in meats.Winners are selected on theirperformance at District and StateMeats Contest. The 50 award andplaque is sponsored by Dennis andSherry Savage.LIVINGSTON COUNTY SOIL& WATER DISTRICTThe Award is given by the SoilConservation Service, a trophygiven to a student who showsthe most ability of evaluating thesoil and is based on the student’sperformance at contests.GROZINGER FARMMANAGEMENT AWARDJim & Paula Grozinger willpresent a plaque and a 100 checkto the outstanding senior FarmManagement student.The award is based on class gradesin Ag Education, scores on theFarm Management Contest, andgeneral knowledge of ProductionAgriculture.CHILLICOTHE FFALEADERSHIP AWARDThe Chillicothe FFA Alumnipresents a plaque and a 75 checkto a member of the freshman andsophomore classes. The awardis based on the total amount ofpoints earned by each member forparticipating in the different FFAactivities during the year.CHILLICOTHE FFASCHOLARSHIPSThe Chillicothe FFA Chapterpresents 400 scholarships to seniorFFA members who are planning toattend a college or vocational schoolmajoring agriculture.The members must havecompleted four units of AgEducation and is based on leadershipin FFA, grades in agriculture classesand other school services, and needfor additional funds.BTC BANK LEADERSHIPAWARDThe BTC Bank Leadership Awardis presented annually to a SeniorFFA member. Winners are selectedon their four-year performancein leadership and service to FFA,school, and community. This awardis a trophy and 400 check.OUTSTANDING AGMECHANICS AWARDGiven annually to the mostoutstanding agriculture mechanicsproject for the current schoolyear. The winner must submit anapplication to be eligible as winnerof a 100 savings bond and a plaque.Criteria for winnings are quality,scope and timely completion of theproject. This award is sponsored byWoodworth Manufacturing.AGRICULTURALMECHANICS AWARDThe Agricultural MechanicsAward will be given annually toone student in the sophomore,junior and senior classes. The awardwill consist of a 50 check and issponsored by Pat Thorne LumberCompany and Orscheln’s Farm andHome of Chillicothe.The award is based on theapplicants’ application and theprojects constructed and completedin the shop class of the current year.The size and cost of the project, thequality of work and grades also usedin determining the winner of theaward.REED FAMILY STARAWARDSThe Reed Family presents aplaque and a 75 check to each ofthe two Star Greenhands and thetwo Star Chapter Farmers. TheStar Greenhand Award is given toan outstanding first-year studentin both the agri-business and theproduction agriculture program, andthe Star Chapter Farmer is given tosecond-year students in both areas.The award is based on scholarship,leadership, S.A.E. Program, andparticipation.Previous winners are DanielNowland, Clark Allen, LaurenDietzschold, Travis Henry, KearaHopper, Olivia Hayes, Dani Moore,Haley Thompson and John Davis.JERRY LITTON MEMORIALLEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENTAWARDThe Agri Leaders, TransOvaGenetics, American FamilyInsurance: Janet McCauslinAgent, United Country GrahamAgency (Dan R. Graham, Broker),Chillicothe FFA Alumni, andJosh Quinn Memorial sponsored byDQ Precision Planting and Tillage(George & Marta Quinn) sponsor 660 to pay the expenses of fourofficers to the Washington, D.C.Leadership Conference.The winners’ names will beengraved on a plaque and theywill represent the Chapter at aweeklong leadership conferencein Washington D.C., during thesummer.Previous winners are John Davis,Carrie Boon, Cassie Reid, andMaresa Sykes.SINGER AWARDThe Singer Locker will presentthree first-year students in AgEducation with a trip to StateFFA Camp. In order to win thisaward, one must be a member ingood standing, have a need forfinancial assistance and must haveparticipated in nine-selected chapteractivities.Previous winners are DianaNelson, Cheyenne Bannan, BridgettKieffer, Trevor Long, Cyrsten Lollarand Hannah Meyers.GILLILAND FARM CAMPAWARDGilliland Farms will present afirst year student, from SouthwestLivingston R-I School, in AgEducation with a trip to StateFFA Camp. In order to win thisaward, one must be a memberin good standing, have a needfor financial assistance and musthave participated in nine-selectedchapter activities. This award ismade possible by Pete & RhondaGilliland.JOHN YEOMANS PUBLICSPEAKING AWARDThis award is presented inmemory of John Yeomans. Theaward is given to the winner of thelocal FFA Public Speaking contest.The winner of the local FFA PublicSpeaking contest represents theChillicothe FFA Chapter at theArea II competition. The award

Another SuccessfulChillicothe FFABarnwarming!On Saturday October 30,2010 the Chillicothe FFAheld its annual Barnwarmingfestivities. These festivitiesincluded a dance, games, a haytunnel, and the coronationceremony. This year’s 2010Barnwarming King and Queenare Travis Henry and LaurenDietzschold. The SeniorsClass, candidates – LaurenDietzschold (daughter ofKeith and Linda Dietzschold)and Travis Henry (son ofMelinda Henry) raised 6,074.00 with an average of 233.61/person; Freshman,Paige Peters (daughter of Boband Berta Peters) and AlanKline (son of Brent and JillKline) raised 6,212.33 withand average of 73.08/person;Sophomores, Keara Hopper(daughter of Mark and JoanHopper) and Bobby Peniston(son of Bob & AshleyPeniston and Tim Wallace& Cathy Peniston) raised 3,457.50 with and averageof 65.35/person; Junior, LaraHopper (daughter of Markand Joan Hopper) and KaylebBerry (son of David and KristyBerry) raised 3,525.17 withand average of 62.95/person.The chapter raised 19,269.00this year for the chaptersoperations that average outto 87.58/member. Wewould like to thank all themember of the community forthe long time support of ourorganization.Chillicothe FFAProficiency AwardWinnersThe following studentsreceived first place in the Area2 proficiency award selection.These students competed atthe state level against fifteenother area contestants. Thestate winner was selected atthe Missouri FFA Conventionheld on April 14, 2011. Daniel Nowland – EmergingAgricultural Technology –involves students gainingexperience in new andemerging agriculturaltechnologies, such as agriscience. John Davis – ForageProduction – using bestmanagement practicesavailable to efficientlyproduce and market cropsfor forage such as: alfalfa,clover, brome grass, orchardgrass, grain forages, silages,and pastures. Tanner Jones – FruitProduction – using thebest management practicesavailable to efficientlyproduce and market cropsfor fruit such as berries,stone fruits, pome fruits,citrus fruits, nuts, grapes,and common fruits. Colton Reeter – Turf GrassManagement – typicallyinvolves the planting andmaintaining of turf foroutdoor beautification,providing a lawn-mowingservice, improvement ofrecreational areas, and golfcourse management. Tanner Thompson –Vegetable Production –using the best managementpractices available toefficiently produce andmarket crops such as beans,potatoes, pumpkins, sweetcorn, tomatoes, onions,zucchini, all canningvegetables, and all commongarden vegetables.During the Missouri FFAConvention Tanner Jonesreceived first place in the FruitProduction Proficiency Awardarea. This means Tannerwill send his application onto the national level thissummer. Good luck to himand congratulations to all theparticipants.
