WHAT IS DISTANCE LEARNING?Distance learning is a way of learning remotely without being inregular faceto-face contact with a teacher in the classroom. It can alsobe defined as any educational or learning process/ system in which theteacher/ instructor is separated geographically or in time from his or herstudents; or in which students are separated from other students oreducational resources.Contemporary distance learning is effected through the implementationof computer and electronics technology to connect teacher and studentin either real or delayed time or on an as-needed basis. Content deliverymay be achieved through a variety of technologies being computers,telephone, email, the internet, etc.WHY DISTANCE LEARNING?It increases access to learning opportunitiesIt accommodates multiple learning stylesIt serves learners who are not likely to attend traditional classroominstructionIt benefits students who lack the full confidence to participate in alarge classroom setting in front of other studentsIn some cases, Distance Learning can serve as many or more learnersper rand spent.

ASSESSMENTThe assessments for distance learning is in the form of two assignments.The first covers 40% of the curriculum of the subject enrolled and thesecond assignment can cover up to 100% of the curriculum.Due to the fact that this is an “open book” assessment, your marks perassignment will be weighted by 0.7 towards a final mark.TRIMESTER MARKSThe trimester mark is determined by an assignment that is divided in two.Students must obtain a trimester mark of 40% in order to be admittedto the final examination. Students should diarise the due dates for Part Aand Part B as NO late submissions will be accepted.TERM MARKYour term mark will be calculated as follows:Part A (Final Mark x 0.3) Part B (Final mark x 0.7) 100%A term mark of 40% or more should be obtained to qualify for theexaminations.EXAMINATIONAll examinations will be written at Goodwood Campus. Students whocannot write the examination, for whatever reason will have tore-register the following trimester. Tochange or cancel subject, a special form must be completed at the administration office.
