Busy cafés and restaurantsgive each neighbourhood a distinctive village feelwhile the afternoon sun cascades through the NX’spanoramic roof *.“City driving can often feel suffocating because yourposition is low down, you can’t see what’s aheadand it seems like everything is pressing down ontop of you,” Kato says with an emphatic sweepingmotion of the hands. “Bad posture creates pressureand it makes little things like traffic congestion seemmuch worse than it really is.”As the traffic gathers pace, the NX switchesautomatically from EV (Electric Vehicle) modeinto hybrid operation and we cruise towards theport, enjoying the sensation of movement andthe effortless power surging from the drivetrain.“The SUV is a quintessentially urban vehicle soit’s got that punch,” Kato tells me. “It’s really a lotof fun to drive.”On our way to visit a work of art, it feels like we’vealready discovered one. The NX design teamapparently took their inspiration from the elegantbeauty of molten metal, and they have producedsomething extraordinary: an urban mid-sized SUVthat combines strength with sinuous grace.Good posture is a feature of the NX, a mid-sizedSUV that has been built especially for urban driving.The seating position is much higher than usual sowe have an excellent view of the traffic, a view that iscomplemented by the feel of the beautifully finishedleather* seats. For anyone who loves interior design, this is the reaction is clearly to her liking, and the studio echoes with laughter as herexquisite moment of discovery when you finally get to see, for the first time, façade of innocence crumbles. “What are you waiting for?” she grins. “Jump in!”what your hosts have done with the place.You have to love her sense of humour. I have heard a lot about “The NX is an SUV so it needs to have that edginess and attitude that comesMomoko-san, whose work on the ES, LFA and CT models has earned her from the streets,” Momoko says. “We wanted to be aggressive and challengingcritical acclaim and a reputation as one of the industry’s most dazzling interior with our colour design but also with a strong sense of luxury that elevatescolour designers.the experience of driving and gives every journey a freshness.” What makesthe NX so special is that we have combined a contemporary urban designWe have already passed through a series of studios and workshops where attitude with the refinement and quality execution of our Takumi craft tradition.Momoko has exchanged greetings with craftsmen – who wave at us with clayencrusted hands – and viewed a mocked-up, bare-metal NX body, stripped The sense of luxury is reinforced by the leather seats that are such a hallmark ofof wheels, drivetrain, bonnet and tailgate. All work is overseen by ‘Takumi’ the brand. The motorsport-inspired foam technology creates a sort of cocoonmaster craftspeople.
