The Primary Care Enhancement Act is aimed at lowering the cost ofhealth care and expanding patient’s access to their primary care providers. The bill’s sponsors are Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La; Sen. Doug Jones, D-Ala;Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan; and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H.The Direct Primary Care model encourages patients to develop personal relationships with their primary care physician and includes extending access tocare beyond office visits and business hours and through telemedicine. It focuses on prevention and primary care, relying less on specialist and hospitalreferrals.DPC models replace copays and deductibles with flat, affordable monthlyfees. Current law makes DPC incompatible with health savings accountspaired with high-deductible health plans. The Primary Care Enhancement Act clarifies federal law to state that DPC iseligible for H S A contributions and that pretax H S A funds may be used topay DPC fees.National Business Group on HealthPage 7ETAHU Review: May 2020

“When angry, count to 10 before you speak. If very angry, a hundred,” said Thomas Jefferson. It turns out that his advice has some benefits to our longevity.Researchers at the University of Rochester found that people who suppress theiranger may die sooner than those who are better at expressing their emotions. When you’re angry, stress hormones are released, which put you at risk for anything from type 2 diabetes to depression. But expressing rage isn’t the answer, either. A study published in the journal Circulation found that people who had a heart attack were more than twice as likelyto report being angry in the hour before their heart attack compared with a control time period. So what’s the healthiest way to handle anger? The researchers said that the anger itself isn’t bad, it’s the extreme highs and lows that take a toll on the body.Researchers recommended paying attention to what triggers your anger or takinga cool-off period before telling someone why you are upset.Page 14ETAHU Review: May 2020

Have you ever learned something new and then wondered—HMM? I wonder if Iwas the only one that did not know that? Well, I can guarantee that maybe othersdid not know it either. So this month’s – I learned something new is from Wendy Bratteli and I can tellyou when she called me and we discussed it had never crossed my mind—I wonder did it cross yours?Hey Everyone I learned something today, very interesting and in 25 years, this never came up!For those of you who take payroll deductions weekly.Any year that starts on a Thursday will have 53 weeks, regardless of a leap year. Mostdeductions are taken x 12 / 52; meaning on years with 53 weeks, you could pull aweek more than necessary to cover the annual cost of benefits from employees; alsoLeap years that start on a “Wednesday” will have 53 weeks. 2020 is a Leap year; andstarted on a Wednesday. We have 53 weeks for 2020; and most payroll calculationswere based upon 52 weeks. You might consider a “benefits” holiday one week, to balance for 2020; otherwise youmight be pulling high, on the cost of benefits for 2020!Thanks Wendy!Page 15ETAHU Review: May 2020
