Message From KenanI don’t know about you but it can be easy to come to church andwalk away thinking, “I have no idea how to read or interact with theBible.” We want to help you and your family find resources to readGod’s Living Word, and watch it come to life for your family. Hereare Five Tools that you and your family can start using today tohelp transform the way you read the Bible: Journal or draw the Word—First, realize the Bible isn’tjust a story, but a revelation of the heart of Jesus. Journalingthrough the Bible by writing a verse and then a letter toJesus in response helps you remember that you areinteracting with Him.Take notes for yourself—Note-taking is a flexiblepractice, with many iterations of it. Inductive Bible studiesuse symbols. Some people use different highlighter colorsfor different ways things are said. Start with one verse. Readit several times and then interact with what stands out aboutthe passage. Remind your teenagers that there are no“wrong” notes.Use online tools—I love to learn the why and howbehind God’s words to us. Lately I’ve become a big fan ofdigital Bible resources like YouVersion, Blue Letter Bible, and Bible Gateway. You can even create a meme or imagewith a Scripture verse and share it with others. Technologymakes it so easy to interact with God’s Word and teenagersneed to know that it isn’t as difficult as they think to interactwith it.Pray the Bible—Simply pray while you read Scripturealoud. Take one line at a time and then talk to Jesus about it.The best way to know this is a conversation is to actuallyhave one.Focus on one verse—Sometimes I feel guilty aboutengaging with just one or two Bible verses. Yet someconversations are short, aren’t they? If you’re interacting withGod’s Word, the time spent doesn’t have to be long. You canreceive a “verse of the day” by email or text and then talk toJesus about it. Sometimes I write that verse on a sticky noteand put it on my dashboard or a notebook I keep with me allday. Little notes and verses remind me that Jesus isconstantly talking.Kenan KleinMinister of Worship & Studentskenan@cccj.church417-437-2718

Message From JamesI learned early on in life what it means totake care of what I have. I remember thatbefore I learned about this I enjoyed rippingpages out of books and breaking my cars. And then there’s that time that I got a newfire truck and decided that the toy barn wasgoing to catch on fire (literally) right in theliving room. I had hard lessons on whatthis Stewardship thing means.Stewardship is taking care of what you have been entrusted with. As a child of God,we learn in the Bible that everything we have really belongs to the Lord, (Psalm 24:1).So as we take care of our things, and other people’s things as well, we come to realizethat it’s really God’s things that we’re taking care of.When I went to college, I learned more about Stewardship in using my time wisely. As Psalm 90:12 states, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart ofwisdom.” In my time at college, I had lots of studying to do and owned a businessin Oklahoma and had to travel every weekend to take care of everything there.Through this time, I learned that when we take time to think about the time God hasgiven us, we have an opportunity to use our time wisely. After graduating from college, I came to the ministry at the Christian Church of CarlJunction, but yet still owned my business in Oklahoma. It was at that point that Ibegan teaching others yet another principle of Stewardship that Jesus taughtthrough a parable in Matthew 25:14-30. This is a familiar parable about abusinessman who went on a journey and left three of his workers in charge of someof his money. Two of the workers turned a profit while the third buried his portion, didnothing with it, and wasted his opportunity for growth. I went through a grueling timeof teaching employees to take care of the things entrusted to them as I was away.In my life, I’ve also learned the aspect of Stewardship of money. April and I have seenso many ways of how the Lord blesses, when you watch how you spend your money. As Paul says in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, “Each of you should give what you have decidedin your heart to give God loves a cheerful giver.” As you give your money back toGod, he will increase your blessings more than you can imagine. In teaching our children Stewardship, we have to first of all be an example of goodBiblical Stewardship. Secondly, we must allow them to fail with it and then teachthem in their failure. Small lessons are easy to find every day as we invest in ourchildren’s lives. As a wise person once stated, “we are not raising children, we’reraising young adults”. Let’s teach our children how to be good stewards with whatGod’s given them.James BillingsMinister to Family & Childrenjames@cccj.church918-697-4639

If you would like tohear how we came to this position, I would love to share the process withyou. Just catch me at church or give me a call at 937-618-1912.However, even though we don't celebrate Halloween, we do love ourtown and want to connect with our community in every way possible. We are throwing a Block Party on Tuesday, October 31 from 5:30-7:00pm! It's a great opportunity to invite friends, family, and neighbors tohang out in a safe, fun environment. At the Block Party, you can expectto find FREE food, ice cream, candy, games, inflatables, a photo booth, and more!It is important to note that this is not a "Halloween Party." It does happento fall on the same day because we want to connect with families that arelooking for somewhere to hang out on that evening. But due to the darkorigin of Halloween, we are choosing to point our thoughts towardwhatever is true, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable and enjoy an evening where we can point peopletoward the God of peace. (Philippians 4:8-9)You'll be hearing more about the Block Party and are invited to join us aswe open our parking lot and our arms to embrace our town!*********************I'm also excited to share that we now offer an option for Online Giving! Chances are, you've experienced the frustration of reaching for theoffering plate and realizing you forgot your checkbook at home.
