Five faculty received internal WKU research funding that resulted in four externalproposals submitted and 157,476 of external funding. Further enhancing our commitmentto research, CHHS added the Center for Child Welfare Education and Research as its thirdinterdisciplinary applied-research center. The mission of CCWEAR is to support thedevelopment of child welfare professionals to serve Kentucky’s families and children. We arethrilled to have added CCWEAR to our existing research centers: The Center for AppliedScience in Health and Aging and the Center for Environmental and Workplace Health.Applied, interdisciplinary research and creative activity inform best practices in the health andhuman services fields and provide first-hand applied experience for our students.Undergraduate and graduate student involvement in research is a priority in our strategicplan. Likewise, in 2019, forty-seven students received internal support from CHHS and WKU.Many of our students have also co-authored presentations and peer-reviewed publicationswith our faculty, which are included in this portfolio.I am honored to work with faculty, staff and students who share my commitment to researchand creative activity.
