Trauma Definition: Act 18 of 20191.Exposure to an event, series of events or setof circumstances that is experienced by anindividual as physically or emotional harmfulor threatening.2.Lasting adverse effects3.Creates significant difficulty in cognitivefunctioning and physical, social, emotional,mental or spiritual well-being.

What is a Trauma-Informed Approach?1. Includes a school-wide approach to educationand a classroom-based approach to studentlearning2. Recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma3. Responds by fully integrating knowledge abouttrauma into policies, professional learning,procedures and practices4. Purposes of recognizing the presence and onsetof trauma, resisting the reoccurrence of traumaand promoting resiliency tailored to a schoolentity’s culture, climate and demographics andthe community as a whole.5
