A Monthly Publication of East Hills Moravian ChurchThe StarVolume 56, No. 6July-August 2013“Parting Words Of Thankfulness"It is hard to believe that my time here at East Hills is finished. The past year has gone byquickly. This has been a wonderful journey in Christ’s work. I have enjoyed getting to knowthe members of the congregation and watching the ministry of East Hills take place. You area loving congregation that is obviously open to God’s leading. One way this can be seen isin your commitment to provide food and shelter to homeless women on cold winter nights.God also leads you to providing a warm and loving atmosphere for student pastorswho are learning and growing in their ministry. I have enjoyed leading worship, attendingmeetings and events, teaching Sunday School, making pastoral visits, and playing in the bellchoir. Assisting Pastor Derek has been a wonderful learning experience that has beenfulfilling and rewarding. I am especially thankful for all the affirmation I have received fromeveryone at East Hills and the welcoming spirit my wife, Anne, and I have felt while we havebeen here.My education experience continues this summer as I will be taking one class at theSeminary. In September I begin my final semester, and will be finished in December. MySupervised Ministry is complete, but I hope to be involved in congregational ministrysomewhere in the fall.I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the congregation for the parting cardand gift. It has been a pleasure serving as your student pastor, and I thank all of you for thisblessed experience. Pastor Derek has been very helpful by allowing me to try new thingsand experience real ministry in a parish setting. His feedback and guidance have been veryhelpful. I would also like to thank the staff, Sue and Deb, for all their help and support. I amgoing to miss their sense of humor. Finally, I want to thank the members of my Lay Committeefor all the honest and helpful feedback that they provided. Jean Bennett, Todd Heft, LindaMarsh, and Jan Schanck gave freely of their time and advice. I recognize theircommitment and truly appreciate their efforts to help me grow in my ministry.Anne and I ask that you keep us in your prayers as we continue on this road to ministrytogether. We won’t say good-by because Moravians have a habit of always bumping intoeach other again. May God be with you and keep you safe. We pray God’s blessings for allof you and the ministry of East Hills Moravian Church. In Christian Love,John and Anne Fritts
