These 25nos. Scania trucks were formally handedover by L&T to BGR Mining & InfraPvt. Ltd. for deployment in KhairaguraOCP of Singareni Collieries Co.Ltd. Thisconsignment is the first batch of themajor order secured by L&T from BGRfor supply of 150 nos. of 18.8 CuM TipperTrucks. The trucks are assembled anddelivered from Scania’s newest state-ofthe-art facility in Narsapura-Karnataka.Today, BGR is one of the frontlinefirms engaged in overburden removalcontracts in coal sector in the country.The firm is already operating in SCCL’sRamakrishnapuram and SrirampuramOpencast Projects,besides Khairagura inAndhra Pradesh. BGR is also handlingprojects for Coal India Limited inNorthern Coalfields Ltd and CentralCoalfields Ltd. Their successful executionand expanding operations have seenBGR own and operate one of the largestequipment fleet in India.BGR Mining & Infra Pvt. Ltd.(formerly BGR Mining & Company) isheadquartered in Hyderabad. Over thepast 20 years, BGR has successfullyextracted OB and Coal of several millionsof cubic meters.With 3000-strongmanpower, BGR aims to embark on newavenues of excavation and extraction ofmajor minerals like iron ore, bauxite andto expand services to clientele across thesteel, aluminum, sponge, iron and cementindustries. Steering the fortunes of thisRs. 2300-crore group is Mr. Narendra Goel,Managing Director, Shree Bajrang Power&IspatLtd. who believes in the maxim ‘if youdare to dream- then work to achieve it’.The Raipur-based Goel Group is one of thetop ten companies in the State with diversifiedinterests in sponge iron, steel, power generationand media. All the group companies are namedafter Shri Bajrang, inspired by the strength andagility of Lord Hanuman.Many decades back, group founder Mr.HariramGoelhad moved from Alwar-Rajasthanto Nepal to establish a flourishing timbercontract business. But then,the politicaldevelopments there forced them to return toIndia. Mr. Hariram Goel moved to the underdeveloped Bastar where he set up a rice mill in1979. Cement manufacturing came soon after,and the Goels worked towards establishing ‘JaiBajrang Cement’ as a leading brand in CentralIndia. By then,Goel TMT bars had become amuch sought-after brand in construction and housing segment.The following years saw them expand into ferro alloys andadding 20MW power plant.In the financial year 2011-12, the group embarked on amajor expansion drive by moving to Tilda village to set up 2MTbeneficiation plant for iron ore, 1.4 MT pellet plant with Lurgitechnology and 2 lakh tpa sponge iron plant alongwith 20 MWgas-based power plant. Today, the group generates close to 65MW power for captive consumption.As part of the emerging game plan, Goel Group has madekey investments in green power by establishing hydel powerprojects of 45 MW in Chamba and 55 MW in Shimla. Theseplants, now in various phases of activity, shall be operationalin 2015 and 2017 respectively.Mr. Narendra Goel is a commerce graduate but exhibits strongaffinity for engineering and is passionate about technology. One companythat came to Mr. Narendra Goel’s mind was that of L&T becauseof his earlier association with L&T Switchgear. So he went aheadand purchased L&T-Komatsu PC210 and deployed it for rockand soil excavation. “PC210fits the bill perfectly. It is certainlya robust product with reliable performance,” he remarked.Further, when the Goels wanted to acquire loaders for thematerial handling, Mr. Goel was quick to place order on L&T for5 nos. of L&T 9020. “Diesel consumption is lesser, maintenancecost is less and working efficiency is better by 15 percent,” saysMr. Goel while elaborating on the performance of L&T 9020.L&T Earthmover News – April 2014

Today the machines are deployed for handling iron ore, coaland limestone - loading and shifting to hoppers, truck andrack loading as well. Mr. Goel was so satisfied with the loaderperformance that he acquired 5 nos. more loaders to take careof his growing requirements.The next-generation Goels are already on board. While twoare engineers, 2 are management graduates and the other 2are commerce graduates. These junior Goels are put through arigorous 2-year comprehensive training programme before theyare allotted to work in individual companies.“Giving back to the earth is imperative for us”, says Mr.Goel who talks of the group’s ambitious efforts to reach out tosociety. They have set up NH Goel CBSE World School in a 100acre residential campus, the biggest in Chattisgarh to providetop quality education. The first consignment of three machines was deliveredto L&T Construction-Infra IC for deployment in Abu Dhabi.The machines, fitted with 2.0CuM General Purpose Bucket,havesince been deployed for operations at Abu Dhabi airport projectsite.Another consignment of two numbers was ordered by VILLimited-Lucknow for its project site in Kenya. These machineswere shipped to Mombasa from Mumbai Port. This was the firstindirect export from WLBU, Kansbahal. The machines, providedwith 1.7CuM General Purpose Bucket, will give feasibility forusage of bucket for a wider range of applications.In a related development, CEB-Kolkata bagged an orderfor L&T 9020 machine from East Land Switch Gears Pvt. Ltd.,Kolkata along with Komatsu PC210 and PC300 HydraulicExcavators.The machines were shipped to East Land’s subsidiaryM/s. Ferro Alloys Corporation in Zambia. The loader is equippedwith a 2.0 CuM Bucket for General Purpose application.The first direct export order of L&T 9020 was executedin March 2014 when three machines were delivered to M/s.L&T Oman, LLC for its ambitious road project in Oman.
