Massage therapyprovider user guideonline claims submissionAlberta Blue Cross is pleased to offer online claimssubmission for massage therapy providers. Thisconvenient service is delivered through an easy-to-usesecure web site, and is available at no cost to massagetherapy providers across Alberta.Online submission provides the convenience of directbilling for eligible services for your customers withcoverage through Alberta Blue Cross benefit plans andASEBP. You are assured of prompt payment directly fromAlberta Blue Cross, while retaining existing customers andgaining a competitive advantage over providers who maychoose not to submit claims online.When submitting claims online, this service willpredetermine the patient’s coverage and confirm: the amount Alberta Blue Cross will pay to your office,and the amount you will need to collect from the patient.Registering for site accessprovided on your registration form. Once you havereceived both of these e-mails, you can begin servingyour customers through online claims submission.Getting started onlinePlease refer to the information in the e-mails AlbertaBlue Cross sends you when your initial registration isapproved. These e-mails will contain your login ID andtemporary password. Navigate to the Massage therapyProvider Online Services web site at:http://provider.ab.bluecross.ca/health and enter thelogin ID and password in the applicable fields.You will be asked to agree to the Web Site Policy andOnline Billing Agreement, set up your two “ReminderQuestions”, and change your temporary password. Thisinformation will be used to verify your identity if youforget your password or require information about youraccount. Subsequent sign-ins will only require your loginID and password.To register for online submission, please complete theRequest for Secure Web Site Access form. If you wantpayments to be deposited directly into your bankaccount, please complete the Application for DirectDeposit of Funds form. Claiming onlineis quick, easy,and secure!Claiming online is quick, easy, and secure! Ask the patient to show their card, and enter their coverage information. Enter the details of the service to predetermine the coverage available.Within seconds of submission, results are displayed. Communicate the results to the patient. The patient will be required topay only the portion not covered under their benefit plan. Submit the claim.The transaction is then complete.2 http://provider.ab.bluecross.ca/health

Easy steps tosubmit and process a claimSteps for online submission1This feature allows you to enter asingle service date or multiple servicedates in a single document.Start entering the claim:When entering claims, youhave the option of submittinga single service date or multipleservice date claims. Please note thatif you choose “Multiple service dateclaims”, you can enter currrent orpast service dates that have notbeen previously submitted. You willnot be able to enter future dates.You have up to 30 days to submitthe claim online from the date itwas incurred.http://provider.ab.bluecross.ca/health 3

2Enter the patient’sinformation: Navigate tothe “Enter claim” menu optionand enter the patient’s ID numberand group number exactly as theyappear on their Alberta Blue Crossor ASEBP identification card. Askthe patient for his or her date ofbirth, enter the date and click the“Search” button.Note: Any dates, such as service orbirth dates, can be entered eitherwith or without a slash betweennumbers. The system will acceptboth formats. This applies to allscreens.3Verify whether patient hasCoordination of Benefits:Confirm if the patient hasother active coverage and if paymenthas been made by another benefitcarrier or provincial plan.If “Yes”,and the patient hasactive coverage withanother insurancecompany, continue tothe COB section onpage 7.4 http://provider.ab.bluecross.ca/health

4Enter details: Select aservice, and enter yourtotal cost for the serviceand the practicing massage therapistname, then click “Add claim.” Repeatthese steps for each service beingconsidered.Claim information: Ask thepatient the question in the “ClaimInformation” box and enter a servicedate. When you are satisfied withthe details you have entered, clickthe “Predetermine” button.Please refer to article 4.4 in yourMassage therapy Provider OnlineDirect Bill Agreement for moreinformation regarding the servicedate.Note: There may be somecircumstances when a claim cannotbe processed electronically.You will receive a notification on thisscreen and these claims will haveto be submitted manually by thepatient to Alberta Blue Cross.5Predetermine: This isa simple inquiry intothe patient’s benefit plan(s) todetermine the coverage available.You can click “Modify” to go backto step 2, “Cancel” to exit withoutsaving, or “Process claim” to submitthe claim online to Alberta BlueCross for immediate processing.http://provider.ab.bluecross.ca/health 5

Steps for claims with Coordination of Benefits (COB)between Alberta Blue Cross and another insurance company1Enter details: Click “yes”if a portion of this claimhas already been paid by anotherinsurer and if you would like tosubmit the remaining amount tothis plan.2Enter the amount paidby the other insurancecompany for each claimline. Reporting information1Reports: This screen allowsyou to pull up all claimswaiting to be paid, history of settledclaims, and individual statements.2Outstanding PaymentReport: Alberta Blue Crosswill make payments to youroffice once every two weeks. TheOutstanding Payment Report lists alltransactions that are remaining tobe paid. 3Payment History Report:Enter a start date and anend date for the claiminformation you wish to display(these dates must be within theprevious six months). All transactionsthat have been paid by AlbertaBlue Cross to your office within thespecified time are listed on a printerfriendly screen. Technical informationRecommended hardwareand software Using the Massage Therapist Provider Online Services website, an Internet connection, and your browser, you can submitclaims online at your convenience.You are responsible for your login ID and password. They areintended for your office’s use only.Most computer systems today have everything required to usethis web site successfully. To avoid surprises, make sure yoursystem includes the following: An Internet browser capable of interpreting 128-bitencryption. Only Internet Explorer versions 6.0 and later and Firefoxversion 1.5 or later are currently supported by Alberta BlueCross. To check your browser version go to the help menuand select the item starting with “About.”We’re serious aboutprivacy and securityThe confidentiality of your records is very important—to you, and to us.
