The Friendsof St. PatrickWalpole, Massachusetts“The Friends of St. Patrick” was founded in 1987 in Walpole,Mass, by John D. Murphy and a small band of local citizenswho realized the value of capturing the spirit of good will andgood cheer that abounds each year on the feast of Ireland’s mostfamous saint.It was agreed that the most appropriate manner of celebratingthis event would be an annual luncheon in mid March at whichtime all people who shared that spirit would be welcome to jointogether in food, drink, laughter and song. In the spirit of itspatron, each year the organization acknowledges the outstandingcontributions of individuals and has donated over 503,500.00to charities, including Longview Farm, Walpole Lion's Club,Walpole Food Pantry, Walpole Lion’s Club, Gift for Kids,Walpole Public Library, Pan Mass Challenge, Friends of St.Nick, Friends of Council Aging, Walpole Charity Golf Fund,Medical Missions, Rodman Ride for Kids, Blessed SacramentSchool, Dana Farber Cancer, Walpole Ponds-The Lodge,Smiling Eyes, St. Vincent DePaul, and Joe Andruzzi Foundationand too many more to list.A wee bit of the leprechaun’s magic is cast upon everyone whoattends the luncheon and they are thereafter a lifetime memberof “The Friends of St. Patrick” with the continuing obligationto spread good will and good cheer.We hope you have enjoyed today’s celebration and until thesame time next year:“May God hold you in the palm of Hishand”Thank youfor your30 years of serviceto theFriends of St. Patrick& for all you do forthe community.Friends of St. PatrickBoard of Directors

PERSON OF THE YEAR 2020Jim BradyThirty-four years ago, six local citizens crafted theidea of having a celebration in March to “spread cheeramongst friends and to do good for others”. Jim Bradywas one of the original six founders of the Friends ofSt. Patrick. Jim served on the Board for thirty yearsproviding guidance and serving as Master of Ceremonies. That alone demonstrates his dedication toWalpole but look closer and we see that Jim Brady hasbeen contributing in many ways.One of Walpole’s own, Jim was one of seven children who grew up on Main Street. Thefamily homestead now serves as the location of his law practice of thirty-five years. A 1972graduate of Walpole High School, Jim played football in the early years of Coach John Lee’stenure and was defensive captain of the 1971 state championship team. He worked twojobs while in high school and no doubt the mold was cast for his incredible work ethicwhich continues to this day. After high school, Jim served his country for four years in theUnited States Navy Seabees, serving in the Far East during the difficult times of the Vietnamconflict. Upon his return from the service, Jim obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree fromUniversity of Massachusetts in 1981 and a Juris Doctorate from New England School ofLaw in 1984, all while working full time. Over the years, he has servedas chairman of numerous boards including ten years on the Walpole Prison AdvisoryCommittee, the Walpole Industrial Commission, and the Low Level Radioactive WasteOversight Committee. Jim served for nine years as Town Moderator during a period oftremendous growth in Walpole and he was an active anti-sludge leader. Jim and his wife,Mary Jane, have long supported public education. In 2001, Jim founded the Walpole HighSchool Alumni Association serving as President for sixteen years. In his “spare time”, he wasa Pop Warner Coach for eight years and President for two years. Jim was named Walpole’s“Citizen of the Year” in 2005 and inducted into Walpole High School Hall of Fame in 2017.He has raised or secured hundreds of thousands of dollars for Walpole and its citizens overthe past thirty-five years.In his professional life, Jim continues to work tirelessly for his clients. He has received thePro-Bono Publico and Spirit of American Justice Awards for providing free legal counselfor people in need. He has held numerous positions over his career including President ofthe Bar Association of Norfolk County, Hearings Officer for the Massachusetts Board of BarOverseers, the Joint Bar Committee on Judicial Appointments, and served on the Board ofGovernors of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys. A published and recognizedlegal expert, Jim has lectured nationally on Workers Compensation and Disability Law.Having a life-long passion for music, Jim is an accomplished guitarist and vocalist. Don’t besurprised if he shows up somewhere later today! He played professionally across the countryfrom 1976 to 1986, having performed for President George H.W. Bush and for numerousGovernors. He has also sung the National Anthem at Bruins and Celtics games. If you haveever had the pleasure of attending a Brady get together, all three of Jim’s children, Kevin,Ryan and Megan, sing and play.We are honored to pay tribute to this deserving Son and Citizen of Walpole.
