Using poet mentors, the program teaches literacyand writing skills through spoken word and performance. The goal of SAYS is to “breakthe chains of underachievement by elevating the voices of young people and creating spaces for studentsto become authors of their own lives and agents of change.” On September 28, Passport had a specialassembly introducing Slam Poetry and the SAYS Writing Workshop.
