Thiswas truly brilliant work.”The City of Brodhead WaterQuality Trading (WQT) program isa multi-tiered solution for achieving compliance with stringentphosphorus water quality based effluent limits (WQBELs) at the City’swastewater treatment facility. Inlieu of a costly tertiary phosphorusremoval upgrade, MSA engineersworked with the community to offset phosphorus loadings by approximately 1,090 pounds per year bystabilizing over 62 severely erodingstreambanks and delivering majorupgrades and new nutrient man-agement practices at a local dairy.“MSA is truly honored to receive this recognition,” remarkedGil Hantzsch, CEO at MSA. “We’reproud to have helped the community an innovative solution that willhave a far greater positive impact ata fraction of the cost than a traditional engineering solution. Thankyou to the panel of judges for recognizing that great engineeringsometimes lies more in creatingcollaborative win-win partnershipsand what we avoided than what weactually designed.”All 2022 ACEC Wisconsin Engineering Excellence Award winners were recognized Friday, April22 at an awards banquet in Kohler,Wisconsin, culminating in the announcement of the Grand Awardwinner.
