Stubler’s Succession Plan Promises Continued Community SupportAs we finalize plans for the 44th OilHeritage Festival, Chamber staff workto confirm each small detail thatcomes together to create a weeklongcelebration of community andheritage in our region.Planning for each year begins earlyand the first task is to invite sponsorsupport. While these generousdonations provide the income neededto purchase entertainment, supplies, and promotion for OHF, they alsoserve as a vote of confidence that thebusiness community understands thevalue of the yearly celebration. There are businesses that continue along-standing tradition of providingOHF sponsorship, and we welcomenew supporters each year, too. All areimportant to continuing the level ofactivities and entertainment.Among the long time supporters of OilHeritage Festival is Stubler’s DriveThru Beverages. Under the ownershipof Becky Stubler, the business hasenjoyed the influx of visitors whocome to town, often returning the lastweekend in July for family or classreunions. Over the years, manyvisitors have been greeted by thewelcoming smile of Ed Schossler. Ed,who has worked for the business formore than 25 years, recently becamethe new owner of Stubler’s.Pennsylvania. The next in line ofownership was Bob’s late fatherCharles “Chuck,” who is fondlyremembered for his continuedexpansion of the business, as well ashis extreme generosity throughoutthe community. That spirit extended to his employeesand set an example for Bob and hiswife, Becky. Bob was the successor toCharles Stubler and expanded thebusinesses to Franklin. Bob then tookownership of the Franklin business(which has since changed ownership)while Becky would take ownership ofthe Oil City location in 1995, with Bobcontinuing to be actively involved inthe management of operations. As the business changes ownership, little else is changing. Ed Schosslershares that he will continue thetraditions of excellent customerservice and giving back to thecommunity. When asked about hisStublers opened for business in 1878,by Peter C. Stubler, and was handeddown four generations to Bob Stubler, husband of Becky Stubler. Each of thegenerations that followed madesignificant advances to the business.Grandfather Peter C. Stubler securedthe 14th liquor license issued in3 Venango Area Chamber of Commerce venangochamber.orgcommitment to staying with Stublersfor all these years, Ed remarks: “Ihave always been treated well, fromthe very beginning, as a part-timeemployee. Bob trusted me and theothers who work here. Surprising tomany, the work here can be hard andlabor intensive, but it is verysatisfying. We have great customersand a community we love.”Ed is also committed to continuingimprovements, including the recentstep into social media, improvedpayment systems, and increasedproduct offerings. Among the staffthat ensures the business continueswithoutinterruptionisLarryYashinki, Assistant Manager and longtime employee.Bob and Ed are clearly friends andshare their excitement about theupcoming Oil Heritage Festival.Whether regulars, old friendsreturning to town, or visitors for thefirst time, the staff of Stubler’s (11total) are ready for the opportunity togreet those who come through theconvenient drive thru. They areperfect ambassadors for the region, providing consistent, reliable hoursand a dependable friendly greeting.

Business Tip of the Month: Email MarketingBy Morgan Pifer, Chamber Intern Using email for your business mayseem challenging, but no matter thesector or size, there are a lot ofbenefits to using this type ofadvertising via email! Emails givecustomers updates about products, services, or information for yourbusiness. It's a great way to build acommunityandhelpconnectinformation with consumers. A subscriber list is a group of people who have given you permission tocontact them. This list wants to knowmore about your business and what itoffers! It is easy to share, and whileyour list may be limited initially, thosewho receive your email are more likely to share information with thosearound them or in their networks.Growing your email list can be hard, but it is not impossible, tips on how toincrease email subscriptions are:Send relevant content: Updatefrequently with content that iscompelling to readers, no onewants to read the same email overand over.Edit: Have concise content beforesending out your email. There isnothing more unprofessional thanhaving an unfinished section.Having a second pair of eyes ishighly beneficial.Send test emails: Having secondeyes is great but previewing anemail in a browser or on mobile isextremely important, this helpsyou see what the subscribers willbe seeing as well. Don’t spam: Your subscribers willquickly dwindle if the content isbeing reused weekly. Don’t sendthe same email, instead update itand add other important details togive it a refresh.Don’t make new subscriberswait: Your content is vital to yoursubscribers–they want to beinformed about what is occurring.Specifically, targetnewsubscribers with a welcome email!Look at analytics: Knowing youremail analytics gives you a lot ofinformation about how youremails are doing. By checkingfrequently you can see whatinformation is reaching youraudience. At the Chamber, our preferredplatform is Mailchimp! There areseveral other options out there, too, like Constant Contact. Get startedtoday on your email marketing!MEET YOUR LOCAL LEADERS: Judy Lentz, Mayor of EmlentonJudy Lentz was recently elected to theposition of Mayor of Emlenton. CHAMBER & MEMBER NEWSAn Introduction to Government ContractingBy Aaron Ritsig, Government Contracting Specialist, Northwest Commission PTACHow much our governments – federal, state, and local – spend is a constanttopic of conversation in our society. TheFederal government spends hundredsof billions of dollars via contracts eachfiscal year, making it the world’s largestpurchaser of goods and services by awide margin. And combined, state andlocal governments across the U.S. spendbillions more. These contracts run the gamut frombattleship components to office supplies andlandscaping services. But as a business owner, have youever thought about getting some of those contracts foryourself? Here are the key elements you should have in placewhen selling to the government:Some business owners discount the idea of working forthe government, as they think that a small business can’tcompete with huge contractors like Raytheon andLockheed Martin, or that government contracting is toocomplicated. In Pennsylvania, small, small diverse, andveteran-owned businesses received 17.9% of stategovernment contracting dollars.
