Social Service Note. . . . . .Shirley DominguezTime to Prepare for Renters RebateRenters Rebate is a program that is administered by the State of Connecticut Office of Policy and Management. The program provides a rebate on a portion of rent and utilities that qualified renters paid in2020. Applicants must be age 65 or older before January 1, 2020 and collect Social Security, SocialSecurity Disability or Supplemental Security Income. Income guidelines are 36,000 for a single person and 43,900 for a couple.Although the Renters Rebate program does not start until the spring, if you usually apply for Renter’sRebate or think you may be eligible this year, now is the time to start planning. The beginning of eachyear is when you typically receive your income statements for 2020 in the mail. Please save the following documents as you will need them to apply: Social Security benefit statement for 2020 (1099 form) – this is the form that tells you the totalamount you were paid by Social Security in 2020, not the form that tells you the monthly amountyou will receive in 2021.Social Security Disability Statement for 2020 (TPQY)Pension Statement for 2020W2 for 2020 if you are still working and receiving Social Security.Bank interest statement and dividends for 2020 if applicable. Now is also a good time to gather proof of your expenses that you paid in 2020. In order to apply, ifyou reside in public housing, you will need a print out from the Housing Office showing all of the rentyou paid in 2020. If you rent privately, when you call in the spring to schedule your appointment, we willsend you a Landlord Testimonial form that needs to be completed by your landlord. If you rent from afamily member, that family member will need to provide us with a copy of their 2020 Tax Return showing rental income. You will also need to provide a print out from each of the utility companies (electric, gas, water) showing how much you paid in 2020.Community Programs continued. The Fairfield University Art Museum (FUAM) is a dynamic space for engagement with the visual arts on the campus of Fairfield University. When a young drug lord is shot in broad daylight by a bumbling drunk known to everyone as Sportcoat, the Brooklyn neighborhood they live in is upended. As Sportcoat comically and unknowingly dodges the police, his actions ricochet around him, igniting a web of drug wars, backdoor dealings with mobsters, and church brawls that demonstrate just how vital yet fragile communities can be. Deacon King Kong tells the fictional story ofone Brooklyn project, but in so doing tells a broader story of race and religion, getting by andgetting out, and how grudges and alliances become embedded in the foundations of our neighborhoods. An incredibly satisfying read. —Al Woodworth, Amazon Book ReviewNutrition and Heart HealthJoin ShopRite of Shelton Dietitian Siddhi Sheth on Tuesday February 23rd, at 11 am,for a virtual class on nutrition and heart health.
