Keynote Speaker & HonoreeDanFethiere‘80Dan played three years of rugby at Fordham Prep and continued to play for fouryears at Fordham University, while earning a BS in Psychology in 1984. Prior toentering Fordham University, Dan attended US Army Basic Training. He wascommissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1982 and remained an as an Army reservist forhis two remaining years at the University.Dan was on active duty in the army from 1984 through 1993, serving as an infantryofficer with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft Campbell, KY. Heattended U. S. Army Special Forces Assessment and Selection 1988, and accepted,then attended, the Special Forces Qualification Course in 1988.I wish ye all the best, lads.- Coach ShaneShane McDermottPG Drywall88 Main StreetTuckahoe, NY914-815-2678From 1990-1993, Dan was assigned to 5th Special Forces Group, Ft Campbell, KYand deployed to Saudi Arabia/Kuwait in support of Operation Desert Shield andDesert Storm as the Detachment Commander of Operational Detachment - Alpha(ODA) 522. He conducted numerous additional Middle Eastern deployments insupport of US national objectives. Military schools he completed include InfantryOfficers Basic and Advance Courses, Airborne School, Air Assault School, RangerSchool, SERE School, Arabic Language School, and the Special Forces DetachmentOfficers Qualification Course.Congratulations to Dan, Simon & Ralph!Throughout his storied career in the military, Dan also found time to play rugby. Asa scrum half on the Ft. Campbell Rugby Club, he was selected to the All ArmyRugby Team in 1987, when they won the Inter-Service Championship Trophy, andtoured England as part of the Combined Service Team in 1988.As a former player ('77 & '78), I'm happy tosupport the FP Rugby Program.In 1995 Dan attended the FBI Special Agent Academy and was posted to the NYDivision in that same year. He served 22 years as a Special Agent conductingnumerous drug and organized crime investigations. He was selected as a SWAToperator and spent 15 years on the NY Office SWAT Team, with 4 1/2 years as theSenior Team Leader, conducting numerous high-risk, tactical operations, includingseveral deployments to the Republic of Yemen in support of the USS Cole bombinginvestigation. HonoreeSimonWalsh‘83Simon played rugby and football all four years at the Prep. At Yale he was abench-warmer on the football team for three years before resuming rugby hislast year, again as a flanker. After college he played for Old Blue RugbyFootball Club in New York City and Washington Rugby Football Club inWashington, D.C.He is currently Chief Operating Officer for New York Life's Retail Annuitiesbusiness.He remembers with pride the shouts of joy at the final whistle, on a sunnyspring day in 1983, when the Prep took the field in Gaelic Park and beat astacked Xavier side.Simon and his wife, Jane, have two sons, Mahon and Declan.Simon is honored and humbled to share this night with such remarkablehonorees, Dan Fethiere and Ralph Dengler, two men who have builtremarkable careers, and repeatedly put themselves in harm’s way in theservice of others.

HonoreeRalphDengler‘84Ralph A. Dengler is the son of Norbert (FP ’49) and Marilyn Dengler and themiddle of seven children raised in the Bronx. Ralph attended Fordham Prepfrom 1980-1984, where he played football for four years and was firstintroduced to rugby. He played prop from sophomore year through senioryear.After graduating from the Prep, Ralph entered the United States NavalAcademy in July 1984, where he played rugby for four years and was the teamcaptain in his senior year. Ralph’s Navy Rugby Football Club won the PotomacRugby Union Championship in 1988 and Ralph was chosen as the team’s MostValuable Forward. He also was selected to the All Military U-19 Team, and wasa light heavyweight boxing champion as a senior.Ralph majored in General Engineering and upon graduation in 1988, he wascommissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Heserved as an Infantry Officer on Active Duty from 1988-1993 and in theReserves from 2003-2010, commanding Platoon through Battalion sizedInfantry units (and teaching “combat rugby” to his Platoons).Ralph served three combat tours over his Marine Corps career, in the Gulf Warin 1991 and in the Iraq War in 2003 and again in 2007-2008. He retired as aColonel in 2010.Along the way, Ralph attended Fordham University Law School from 19931996. He began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx,and then went into private practice where he has been specializing inIntellectual Property law litigation and counseling for nearly 20 years. Ralph is aPartner at Venable LLP in Manhattan.He is married to Kelly Connaghan Dengler, who was a Hall of Fame swimmerat Fordham University. Ralph and Kelly are the proud parents ofstudent/athletes: Matt (18), a freshman at Fordham’s Gabelli School ofBusiness and a member of the football team; Ryan (17), a junior at Pope JohnHigh School and also a member of the football team; Krista (12), a 7 th grader atSparta Middle School and a soccer and basketball player; and Sloane (10), a 5 thgrader at Helen Morgan School and also a soccer and basketball player. TheDenglers live in Sparta, New Jersey.
