The CCSESA Arts Initiative’s Creativity at theCore Program has grown through support from The California Arts Council, The Williamand Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Stuart Foundation. Regional teams from across thestate including Regional Arts Leads from county offices of education and Arts OrganizationPartner Leads from key arts organizations, along with other partners, developed professionallearning modules that connect arts learning in dance, media arts, music, theatre, andvisual arts to California State Standards. Perhaps one of the most important benefits is that creative educationcultivates deeper learning and builds multiple kinds of literacy including reasoning, imagining, problem solving, dexterity and many unique forms of expression. The visual and performingarts provide many lenses to view history, culture, and the world around us. We understandthat the creative work force is looking for innovative leaders to solve complex problems. As weexplore how creativity connects with arts learning and other curricular areas, we acknowledgethe value of arts learning both as courses of study as defined by our state Education Code, butalso as vital subjects that connect across the curriculum — opening up many interdisciplinaryopportunities for connections, relationships, and applications.
