2019 Life Outcomes with High School Experiences for 2015 GraduatesTechnical NotesThe 2019 Life Outcomes with High School Experiences for 2015 Graduates is producedby the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS) utilizing data from the KentuckyLongitudinal Data System (KLDS). Data sources leveraged for this report include datafrom: Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and Council on PostsecondaryEducation (CPE).Occasionally, data from one source will not conform to data from another sourcebecause of differences in student cohorts, how variables are defined, how variablesare calculated, the treatment of missing data, and other factors. This means thatdata published in this report may not be comparable to data published in otherreports. For specific details about metric formulas, please refer to Appendix A. Somevalues are redacted to preserve individual privacy and conform to state laws.Redaction rules can be found in Appendix B.The 2019 Life Outcomes with High School Experiences for 2015 Graduates report ispresented in a dynamic tool for users to easily see education attainment as well asthe high school experiences (participation in early postsecondary opportunities,enrolling in work based learning, finishing a career pathway, etc.) students wereengaged in along the way. Users are able to filter by specific high school experiences.Questions this report answers:1. What is the highest level of post-high school in-state educational attainmentfor recent high school graduates?2. Does highest level of in-state post-high school educational attainment vary bystudent engagement with distinct high school experiences?3. What are the combinations of high school experiences in which studentsengage?DashboardThis dashboard can be filtered by specific high school experiences and defaults tohighest educational attainment for all 2015 public high school graduates, regardless ofhigh school experiences. Selectable high school experiences include: Any EarlyPostsecondary Opportunities, AP Exam Attempted, AP Exam Passed, DualEnrollment/Dual Credit, CTE Certificate, CTE Pathway Completion, and Work-BasedLearning Participation (for exact metric definitions, see Appendix A).3/23/20211

At a glance, the circles bracketing the population chart in the dashboard display ageneral overview of the number of 2015 high school graduates by highest post-highschool education level as of the 2019 academic year. The middle section provides avisual representation of highest educational attainment, with the figure colorscorresponding to the attainment level colors. This section includes a legend at the topto approximate the number of people each figure represents. This legend will changeto reflect the size of the group selected in the high school experience dropdown.Below the population chart is a figure displaying both the number of individuals in theselected group as a whole and the number of individuals within this group brokendown by participation across a variety of high school experiences.3/23/20212

APPENDIX A: METRIC FORMULASData Sources:Kentucky Department of Education (KDE): KDE provides statistics and pertinent factsabout schools and education in Kentucky including racial breakdowns, and attendanceand graduation rates. KDE provides information on public PK-12 teachers andstudents. Data included is from the Technical Education Database System (TEDS).Which is the authoritative source for all Career and Technical Education (CTE) datarelated to federal Perkins and Kentucky state accountability Career Readiness data.More information about Career Pathways can be found on CTE’s website here.Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE): Provides data from the KentuckyPostsecondary Education Data Systems. This system contains comprehensiveinformation on postsecondary enrollments, coursework, grades, and degrees earnedfor all in-state postsecondary students that attend one of the following institutiontypes: 4-Year Private (Independent), 2-Year Public (KCTCS), 4-Year PublicComprehensive, and 4-Year Public Research. In-state proprietary and out-of-stateinstitutions are not included in this data system.Dashboard:Educational Attainment - Defines the level of educational attainment of 2015 highschool graduates as of the 2019 Academic Year. The ranges include bachelor’s degreeor higher, associate degree, postsecondary certificate or diploma, some collegeexperience, and high school graduate. Unlike highest educational attainment in theHigh School Feedback Report, this report looks at highest in-state educationalattainment after graduation. Individuals who enroll in an in-state postsecondaryinstitution will have ‘Some College’ or higher as highest educational attainment. If norecord of in-state postsecondary enrollment is found post-high school graduation, theindividual was classified as either a high school graduate or a CTE certificatecompleter. APPENDIX B: REDACTION RULESRedaction RulesKYSTATS follows strict redaction and suppression guidelines to ensure the privacy ofall individuals. The following rules were applied to the 2019 Life Outcomes with HighSchool Experiences for 2015 Graduates report to redact or mask some of the databased on the small cell-size counts that could be used to identify individuals. Ingeneral, categories must have a base denominator of 10 to be present in the report.All rules apply at the school, district and state level. All graphs include data alreadypresented in the report unless otherwise noted. If these data are redacted in thereport, they are also redacted in any accompanying charts and graphs.3/23/20218
