I have been the Chair of the“Academic Council” for the “Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI)-Foundation” and a member of its “Board ofTrustees”. Prior to joining UNF, I was a founding faculty of the Civil Engineering Department at Florida StateUniversity, at Panama City campus (2003-2005). I earned my PhD in 1994 from North Carolina State University(NCSU) and my MBA in 2021 from UNF. I have had extensive teaching & research experiences at severaluniversities [North Carolina State University (PhD & postdoctoral research), Cairo University (Master), Sherbrooke UniversityCanada (Fulbright Specialist & postdoctoral research), University of Central Florida (Visiting faculty), Florida State University“FSU-PC” (founding faculty), United Arab Emirates University (Fulbright US Scholar), and University of North Florida “UNF”(Professor)]. I have had an extensive industrial experience working as a Structural Engineer at the Bridge design firm(Lochner) in Florida and a Specifications Manager at the British Construction Chemical Company (Fosroc - BurmahCastrol). I am a Licensed Professional Engineer “PE” in Florida and “P.Eng.” in Ontario, Canada.I have been honored to be the “UNF Distinguished Professor” in 2018, a “Fulbright U.S. Scholar”, and a“Fulbright Specialist”. I am the recipient of “The Educator of The Year” national award by the "Precast/PrestressedConcrete Institute" PCI in 2015, and other national, local, and state awards in teaching, research, leadership, andservices. I have secured 2.5 million project funds and led several research teams of faculty from 8 universities(LSU, NCSU, Drexel, FSU, Sherbrooke, Northern Ohio, Embry Riddle & UNF), published a textbook, technicalreports, and more than 104 journal and conference papers. I have awarded the PCI-Foundation national grant toestablish the 1st Engineering Design Studio in the US (2009-2015). I have been a partner with LTRC & LSU on anNSF project. I have led student teams to win regional and national competitions and have led student groups on StudyAbroad to Ghana, Morocco, Italy, and Germany. I’ve led faculty groups on international academic visits to Turkey,Morocco & Egypt to establish and maintain research initiatives & exchange programs. I was a guest lecturer atTechnische Hochschule Köln (THK), Cologne, Germany. I initiated collaboration in Japan and Italy to establish jointresearch & exchange program.
