Message from the DirectorSandeep Mittal, IPSI have immense pleasure in presenting the Placement Brochure of ourM.A. Criminology and M.Sc. Forensic Science students for the session2015-2017With the change of society from simple to complex, nature of crime haschanged. Criminals have become tech-savvy and have been using latesttechnology to commit various crimes. Further, criminals operate in aborderless world. As a result Criminal Justice System is facing formidablechallenges in making our society safe.To meet this challenge, specialized and formal study of crime and criminals and use of modernscientific techniques is essential. Our M.A. Course in Criminology has been designed to educate thestudents about etiology of crime, various forms of crime, criminal justice process, correctionaladministration, human rights, research methodology, etc. The course in Criminology is a uniqueblend of theoretical and practical aspects of Criminal Justice education. M.Sc. Forensic Sciencecourse has been designed to equip students with latest knowledge about application of Science ininvestigation, use of basic scientific concepts in examination of crime exhibits and professionalvalues, concepts and ethics and truthful presentation of evidence in the trial court.The theoretical inputs equip the students with conceptual knowledge along with analytical skills.Variety of field exposures is organized to supplement this theoretical knowledge. The students areexposed to a large number of Conferences, Workshops, exhibits and field visits in their areas ofspecialization. The location of the Institute in Delhi enables us to organize talks by exceptionallyqualified Guest Faculty and each one is among the best in the country. Being aware of the CriminalLaw (both penal and procedural), in court process and working of police and law enforcementagencies, our young Alumni can be extremely helpful in protecting the interest of their employersagainst activities which can be criminal or other irregular transactions. (Forensic Science) of 20152017 academic session.Crime being a dynamic phenomenon, the nature of crime and criminals has changedconsiderably in the process of social change and development and particularly due to advent ofeconomic liberalization, globalization, communication revolution etc. This has not only resulted ineffecting substantial alterations in the dynamics of crime and criminal behavior but has alsobrought about multiple challenges for the Criminal Justice System in particular and society as awhole in general. Therefore, education and research in Criminology and Forensic Science haveassured significant importance to respond to the needs of the society and the criminal justice toface these unprecedented challenges for their existence.Our programmes cater to emerging requirements for effective prevention, control andinvestigation of crime. The course curricula which have been revised in recent years areculmination of thoughts of eminent professors, scientists and practitioners in areas ofCriminology and Forensic Science. Syllabi of all the Universities teaching Criminology and ForensicScience in the country have also been consulted before giving a final shape to our syllabi. Thesyllabi, thus, evolved have maintained an excellent blend of theory and practice.The students of 2015-2017 batches have derived the benefit of these syllabi and thereby havebeen empowered with specialized skills and knowledge in areas of Human Rights, Economicoffences Prevention, Security Management, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Biology, Ballistics andForensic Documents. About the InstituteLoknayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Institute of Criminology & Forensic Science(LNJN NICFS) was established by the Government of India in 1972 to promote 'Criminology' and'Forensic Science' through education, research and training. During its 42 years of existence, the Institutehas made significant headway in the areas of training of officials of the Criminal Justice System, ForensicScientists and conducting research in applied aspects of the two subjects. Over 41,260 officers fromPolice, Civil Administration, Prosecution, Judiciary, Correctional Administration, Customs, VigilanceDepartments of PSUs, Defence Services and Forensic Science Laboratories have participated in Seminars,orientation and Specialized courses organized by the Institute in Delhi and elsewhere. Officers fromforeign countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Malaysia, Maldives, Sudan,Myanmar, Nepal, Palestine, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Uganda and Zambia have also participatedin some of these courses. In 2003 the Institute was renamed as Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan NationalInstitute of Criminology and Forensic Science.The Institute started M.A. /M.Sc. Courses in Criminology and Forensic Science in 2004 under affiliationwith the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and has produced brilliant alumni. Every year morethan 18-20 students clear NET/JRF conducted by the UGC.Located in Rohini sub city of the National Capital of Delhi, the Institute has 8 acre campus housing22administrative wing, teaching block (about 9000M .), hostel space (2400M .), several lecture theatres,Seminar rooms, Auditorium besides residential facilities for faculty and staff. The Institute has anInstrumentation Wing and 7 laboratories with state of the art equipments.The Institute library has over 16000 volumes of technical books and subscribes over 42 journals (bothNational and International) on Criminology, Sociology, Social work, Social Anthropology, Law, Police,Science, Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, etc. The collection of reference books, CD's, audiovisual/video cassettes on Criminology and Forensic Science subjects is very rich.The Campus offers variety of sports and recreational facilities including gymnasium with latestequipment. Carom Board, Chess and Badminton etc. for the students and trainees.10

Students of M.A. Criminology have been participating in All India Criminology Conferences organized bythe Indian Society of Criminology every year. Several students of this Institute have been awardedGold/Silver Medal in the Conference for the presentation of best research paper in the scientific sessionof the Conference where large numbers of students from all over country have been presenting researchpapers. NICFS Graduates in Criminology have been working in various NGOs, Universities / Colleges,Banks, Companies in India and abroad. Some students have also been selected in International StudentExchange Scheme.The students of M.Sc. (Forensic Science) have been participating in All India Forensic ScienceConferences organized by Directorate of Forensic Science Services in collaboration with State ForensicScience Laboratories every year. Final year students participate in these conferences for presentationof their research papers where large number of students, academicians professionals, Forensic scientistsassemble from across the country for presenting their papers.NICFS Graduates in Forensic Science, have been placed in the Universities/ Colleges , Banks,MNCs, FSLs and CFSLs and with privately owned Investigating Agencies in the country. OBJECTIVES1. To act as National Institute towards advancement of the subjects of Criminologyand Forensic Science and towards this end to provide (i) M.A. in Criminology andM.Sc. in Forensic Science and (ii) undertake research in Criminology andForensic Science2. To act as a Centre of in-service training of officers in Police, Judiciary andCorrectional Services and also others engaged in the Criminal Justice Systemand its allied fields and to provide facilities for certificate and diplomacourses in the various subjects.3. To act as a reference body in the fields of Criminology and Forensic Sciencefor all National as well as International Institutions and provide all types ofinformation to workers engaged in the various studies in these fields.4. To promote international understanding and good-will by providing facilities fortraining and research in Criminology and Forensic Science to other countries.12

FUNCTIONSAs per the Ministry of Home Affairs Resolution no. 4/20/70-F(P)II/ICFS/GPA.Idated 25/09/1976, the functions of the Institute are as follows:-1. To conduct Masters of Arts and Master of Science Courses in Criminologyand Forensic Science2. To organize various in-service certificate and diploma courses asapproved by the Government of India from time to time3. To confer membership, Associate ship and Fellowship to those engagedin the profession of Criminology and Forensic Science4. To assist the Govt. of India in formulating policies relating to allmatters pertaining to the research and application of Criminology andForensic Science5. To collaborate with other Institutions, Organizations, Associations andSocieties in India and abroad for the promotion of study ofCriminology and Forensic Science and their application6. To establish and maintain Library and Information Service todisseminate information to different departments of the Govt. ofIndia and the State Governments and other7. Institutions in matters relating to Criminology and Forensic Science8. To offer Research Fellowship, Scholarship, prizes and stipends forfostering the study of9. Criminology and Forensic Science10. To undertake aid, promote and coordinate Research in Criminology andForensic Science through its own or other agencies includingUniversities and other Institutions of standing11. To analyze specific problem encountered in the fields ofCriminology and Forensic Science referred to the Institute by StateGovernments or Government of India12. To undertake all such research and studies either of its own or incollaboration with other organizations or persons on subjects whichwill serve the cause of Criminology and Forensic Science in the country.13.
