John Wood Community College2018-2019 Transfer GuideTransfer OptionsAssociate in Arts and Associate in Science DegreesApplicants holding an Associate in Arts from an Illinois community college are admissible as juniors and areconsidered to have met the general education requirements. Students holding an Associate in Science or Associate inArts and Sciences may be admissible as Juniors, but may still not be considered as fulfilling all their general educationcoursework. Course-by-course evaluation will take place.Other AdmissionStudents wanting to get an early start on their studies at UIS can be admitted if they have completed a minimum of30 transferable semester hours of college work from a regionally accredited college or university. Policy requires aminimum cumulative 2.0 grade point average (4.0 scale).Admission to the junior year at UIS is granted to applicants who have completed 60 semester (90 quarter) hours ofcredit with a minimum cumulative 2.0 grade point average (4.0 scale) from a regionally accredited college oruniversity. In addition, 37 semester hours of general education courses must be completed before graduation fromUIS; it is preferred that these hours be completed prior to admission to UIS. UIS will accept up to 72 hours of lowerdivision courses toward the average total of 120 hours (AACSB majors accept 66 hours).To avoid extending the number of courses necessary once at UIS, students are encouraged to complete generaleducation courses prior to admission to the university. See listing of requirements on page 2.Illinois articulation initiative (IAI)UIS is a participant in (IAI), a statewide agreement designed to allow you to transfer your general education credit, aswell as credit earned in select majors, between participating institutions.
