Who Must Use Move Update? “Default” Undeliverable Mail Treatment The default treatment for First-Class Mail is to forward orreturn it with no additional postage paid and no separateaddress correction notice Periodicals are forwarded for 60 days and an addresscorrection is sent after 60 days (PS Form 3579). Any furtherpieces are discarded. If Nixie, a notice is sent every time. Standard Mail and Bound Printed Matter is discarded withno notice to the mailer Standard Post, Parcel Select, Media Mail, and Library Mailare forwarded to the addressee as Postage Due. Nixies arereturned, forwarding (if appropriate) and return postage ischarged.40

What is Move Update?Move Update describes the process of periodicallymatching a mailer’s address records with customerfiled Change-of-Address orders received andmaintained by the Postal Service Move Update Fewer Forwarded and Returned Mailpieces50

Move Update Methods NCOALink - including both pre-mail NCOALink processing systems andthe physical mailpiece processing equipment system: Mail ProcessingEquipment (MPE). ACS Applicable ancillary service endorsements under 507.1.5.1 or507.1.5.3, except “Forwarding Service Requested.” Just printing theendorsement on the piece does not meet the requirement! For First-Class Mail , and First-Class Package Service only: MailerMove Update Process Certification and USPS -approved alternativemethods for mailers with legitimate restrictions on incorporating USPSsupplied change-of-address information into their mailing lists.51
