Plenary Session Speakers“For the Sake of All: Improving Health andWell-being in St. Louis Post-Ferguson”“Strategies and Collaborations for LatinoEmpowerment: The Role of CommunityColleges”Jason Purnell is an assistant professor in the GeorgeWarren Brown School of Social Work at WashingtonUniversity in St. Louis. He is trained in both appliedpsychology and public health. Dr. Purnell leadsthe For the Sake of All project, a multidisciplinarycivic education and mobilization initiative highlightingthe regional significance of disparities in health andlife outcomes for African Americans in St. Louis. Dr.Purnell’s research focuses on health equity and thesocial determinants of health, with a special emphasison the social, cultural, and economic factors thatinfluence health behaviors and health outcomes. He isalso interested in how communities can be mobilizedto respond to health inequity.Moderated by: Sal Valadez, Laborers’ InternationalUnion of North America (LIUNA - Midwest Region)Karen Hunter Anderson is the Executive Directorof the Illinois Community College Board, where shehas worked in various roles since 1999.
