www.forestcreekestates.netTribute: Jill Galloway AlcantaraJill, The HOA Board would like to thank you and acknowledge the leadership role you played in making Forest Creek Estates one of the mostsought after Plano neighborhoods in which to live. Jill was a Boardmember years ago and it was her that we can thank for championing theerection of our stunning Gazebo 28 years ago. The gazebo is locatedalong the Chisholm Trail and is available for public use. It, also, servesas a location for photography sessions for many occasions.Jill headed up the beautification team when the HOA was first started. She was instrumental in many of the improvements for the neighborhood. Some of those improvements include the designed monumentsign walls at San Simeon Way and Mission Ridge Road, the establishment of the original playground on Michael Drive, the sprinkler systemon San Simeon Way, plus others .Jill raised the money to plant 200 trees on Mission Ridge Road, TraceyDrive and Joseph Drive. In addition Jill oversaw the construction of allprojects and saw to it all materials and labor were done at cost throughher company.Jill Alcantara was a wonderful Forest Creek Estates neighbor beforemoving to McKinney. The HOA Board would like to recognize Jill forher past contributions to our wonderful Forest Creek Estates neighborhood.Thank you!2Jill Alcantara, granddaughter Sierra, daughterJanelle and Oreo

The first GeneralMeeting is at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 10th at thehome of Lauren Vicars, 3201 Gary Drive. The dog days of summer are here. Hopefully in a coupleof weeks we will get a break and we can enjoy a littlecooler weather. All women in the neighborhood are invited to join us forsnacks & beverages. We will have a brief meeting, learn aboutthis years’ service project, and discover ways to better organizeour belongings with our Closetpalooza program! The old sprinkler system by San Simeon needed majorrepair work in August. Since the system is approximately 30 years old and given the clay soil it was not surprising. It cost us 2,000 to repair the main line and replacethe double check valve along with repairing or replacingadditional sprinkler heads.Anna Vicars, a closet specialistwith The Container Store, willdemonstrate how your items cango from just “existing” in yourcloset to actually “living” there. You will come away with someideas on how to make your storage space actually work for theway you live!As always check out our advertisers. www.forestcreekestates.netMembershipGardeningJim DeenJim Watson, Certified Master GardenerEach Spring our HOA conducts our annual membershipdrive; that effort is now complete. We were able to set anew record with 321 members.Trees are often the most important plant in our landscapes.By far the most popular in our landscapes are the oaks, primarily live oak and Shumard red oaks. Chinese pistachio isa tree with beautiful fall color. These species are hardy inour soil and climate conditions. Others, such as Bradfordpear are often problems because of their brittle wood and“candelabra” growth pattern. These trees have a limited lifecycle, often less than 10 years. After a windy day we oftensee large limbs split from the trunk, ruining the shape of thetree. Given the value of our trees we need to consult certified arborists when questions arise. Google will produce alist of local arborists. Be sure and choose “certified” andask for references. We have 361 homes in Forest Creek Estates. The 89%participation rate for a voluntary HOA is very high, compared to other voluntary HOA’s in the area. It shows thatour residents want to keep Forest Creek Estates as one ofthe top neighborhoods in Plano. If you see one of our newresidents, please welcome them and remind them of thevalue of the HOA in maintaining the distinction of ourbeautiful neighborhood. Thanks for your support of the Forest Creek EstatesHOA!!Now is the time for several important landscape care activities:Jim Deen*Pick off spent blooms from blooming flowers and get onemore round of color before cold weather.*Plant pansies for fall and winter color. Pansies are hardydown to 20 degrees so covering is necessary only in extremeweather.*Now is the time to apply herbicides to stall growth ofbroad-leafed weeds such as dandelion, henbit, etc. in ourlawns. This is often best done with a “weed and feed” fertilizer available at the garden store.*Bulbs for tulip, narcissus, iris and gladiola should be planted as soon as the weather gets cold.So it’s a busy time to check off some or all of these “preps”for the rest of the summer, fall and winter. A healthy, abundant and beautiful landscape is the reward.Jim Watson, Certified Collin County Master Gardener2019– 2020 Board of DirectorsScott SchwarzChris RisenhooverDan McCurleyDiana HueterPam PamplinJim DeenJerry MartinJeff DutyLizzy Auxier & Sharee MosherJudy PaulsonSandy unicationCrime WatchMembershipNew Resident kestates.net

The heat has been really hard on some of the new plants that went in earlier thisyear. Just can’t get enough water to some of them.Phase one of the bike path lighting was installed from the playground down the path towards Tracey Drive. If you haven’t had achance to walk the path take a late evening stroll and check them out.Phase two was just approved by the city with another matching grant. Thanks to Scott Schwarz for his hard work in achieving thisgrant for the HOA. This phase will start sometime in the first half of 2020.Hope you are having a great summer. That’s all for now, and thanks for your support.Dan McCurleyENJOYYOURWALK6
