How do I seek help for a parent, spouse or family member? What type of programs does the Senior Center offer? Do we have to be a member? I’m always happy to answer these questions!A Council on Aging and Senior Center provides support services to all seniors, families,and caregivers in the community.The COA—a town department— focuses on health awareness, home and health support,wellness, and information and referral services. Important outreach helps seniors and families with issues that arise as they age and help to find and navigate resources available. Services offered are office consultations or home visits, assessments, referrals to home/healthservices and other needs. We work closely with various agencies to ensure our seniors arereceiving the best possible care. The nutrition program provides lunches at the Senior Centeras well as home delivered meals. The COA van provides transportation five days a week formedical and non-medical appointments. The COA office is in the Senior Center.Our Senior Center is the gateway connecting seniors to community services that allowthem to remain healthy and independent. Today’s senior centers are vibrant and action packed with a variety of programs/events that are designed to meet the needs of seniors whileenriching their lives. Senior centers are great places to socialize and meet new friends. The origin of the virus is Wuhan,China. Coronaviruses are generally spreadthrough respiratory droplets from coughs andsneezing of an infected person to another person. Symptoms include fever, cough, shortnessof breath and pneumonia. If someone exhibitsrespiratory symptoms they should see their owndoctor. If they have a fever it is recommendedto use masks and isolation in a private room athome with the door closed.The CDC has begun enhanced screening ofpassengers arriving at Logan Airport from China. Logan does not have any flights originatingin Wuhan, China.Risk to Massachusetts residents at this timeis low-to-none at the community level.
