Fourth Quarter, 1998Volume 14, Number 4I-QU 2000’s Newest Feature, Date Aging, Addsa New Level of Confidence to Those Y2K BluesThe 2R1 release of the popular database tool gives a fool-proof wayof being sure your Year 2000 conversions are really going to work.“Can we get a productlicense key that expires afterthe year 2000?” This is aquestion we have beenasked frequently as theyear 2000 approaches andcustomers rush to ensurethat their systems will be upand running after the strokeof midnight, December 31,1999.I-QU 2000’s newestfeature, Date Aging, is oursolution to this commondilemma. This is the perfectway to test, and to becertain, that all of yourYear 2000 conversions willactually work! You maythink, or even be fairlyconfident, that your dateconversions have beensuccessfully made, but youwill never be sure untilSaturday, January 1, 2000arrives.The I-QU 2000 DateAging Program is verysimple to use, but willtruly be a lifesaver. Tobegin the date agingprocess, you will need torun a program withinI-QU 2000 called DateSearch. Here you willsearch your schema filefor key words (datenames) that will help theprogram determine whatfields are candidates fordate aging. For example, you maychoose keywords suchas “YEAR”, “MONTH” or“DATE”. Or perhaps “DD”,The Date Aging featuregives you four choiceswhen aging your data.Continued on page 4Ready, Set, Reno!KMSystems is coming to the FallUNITE Conference with our largestcontingency ever.If you ever have had questions or comments thatyou wanted to share with someone from KMSystems, this is most certainly the time to do it. KMSystems, Inc.Q-TipsBring Your Mainframe Home with QPlexNew and improved QPlex allows UTS and T27 emulation across the internet.QPlex brings Unisysusers a new and excitingconcept for emulationapplication connectivitythat is sure to have a majorimpact on the way peopleconnect to a host. QPlex isa web-direct UTS and T27emulation product thatallows users to access amainframe that has a phoneline from anywhere in theworld .Leveraging either yourInternet connection oryour Intranet, QPlex allowscomplete UTS and T27emulation within a webbrowser such as Netscapeor Internet Explorer. Byharnessing the webbrowser's technology, QPlexhas achieved a true zerocost-of-ownership at theclient level.QPlex provides completeemulation with a clientthat uses the same objectoriented technology as our32-bit PC-based UTS andT27 emulators, UTS ExpressPages (ASP) to provideaccess to legacy hostapplications over the WorldWide Web.Applications developedusing ASP and QPlexViewcan be accessed usingnearly any Web browser.Since ASP and QPlexViewrun entirely on the webPlus32 and T27 ExpressPlus32.Among the manyadvantages QPlex gains byutilizing this technologyare: 1) Using the sameobject makes for a moremature product; 2) All UTSand T27 operations arefunctional; and 3) Unlikeother Web emulators, QPlexwill do more than just TIPscreen scraping— Demand,TELCON, and CMS consoleadministration are fullyfunctional.QPlex is based on thelatest ActiveX technologyfrom Microsoft. ActiveXprovides a common objectinterface with built-inversion control and distribution system.Using QPlexView, acompanion program forQPlex, you can easily createweb pages containing liveconnections to host applications. QPlexView is anActiveX component designedfor use in Active Serverserver, only HTML is sentto the client (browser).QPlexView connects to thehost using the same QPlexServer used by the QPlexClient ActiveX component, thus connections arecentrally administered inthe same manner.Using QPlexView, you can easily create web pages containing liveconnections to host applications.I-QU PLUS-1 is recognized in approximately 400 sites worldwide as theleading database reorganization productivity tool for Unisys 2200 DMSdatabase applications. I-QU PLUS-1will save enterprise hours, if notdays, of database down time whenreorganizing DMS 2200 databases.I-QU PLUS-1-3-

Fourth Quarter, 1998Volume 14, Number 432-Bit - from page 1“MM”, “YY”. You can alsolist words that you do notwant the program to lookfor. If “DD” was listed asone of your keywords, theword “ADD” would showup as a found item, unlessyou place word “ADD” inthe exclusion list.Next, you will identifywhich dates you wish toage and their format. This information is passedto the Date Aging programvia a PC file.So now what? The nextstep is to run the Date AgingProgram in I-QU PLUS-1.This is where the magichappens. Your hypotheticaldate is chosen and youroutput is now aged. Thereare four choices when agingyour data: Go Back in Time—Choose this option tocalculate a date basedon an offset entered inthe Enter Date Offset(in Days) text box. Theoffset will be used todecrement any datemarked for aging. Go Forward in Time—Choose this option tocalculate a date basedon an offset entered inthe Enter Date Offset(in Days) text box. Theoffset will be used toincrement any datemarked for aging. Specify Year— Choose-4-this option to set theyear portion of a date toa fixed year entered inthe Enter Year Value(yyyy) text box. Find Offset from Date—Choose this option tocalculate an offset basedon the differencebetween the valueentered in the Base Date(yyyy/mm/dd) text boxand that entered in theEnter Aged Date(yyyy/mm/dd) textbox. The calculatedoffset will be used toincrement/decrementany date marked foraging. An example of how itworks would be if youwanted to see how yourdata will react in the year2029, you can just chooseSpecify Year and type in2029. The Date AgingProgram then generates anI-QU PLUS-1 program to berun on the host. When the final I-QUPLUS-1 program is run,the clock can be advancedon the host and yourapplications tested for Year2000 compliance. You willthen be able to know, without a doubt, that yourdata will, or has been, successfully converted tomeet the Y2K requirements. And wouldn't you liketo start a fresh, newmillennium without thatproblem hanging over yourhead?

Well, the mainframe didn't die! And, many folks have beenrediscovering the value ofthe old behemoth.Integrating new Webtechnology with the mainframe has become a majorproject for many organizations. The direction is to usethe mainframe as a datamart and as a guardian ofcritical business applications. The goal is to provideaccess to anyone fromanywhere — enter the webbrowser. This presentationwill discuss the optionsavailable and benefits togain from Web toMainframe integration.Reduce those repetitivekeystrokes. Fourth Quarter, 1998Volume 14, Number 4Your QuestionsOur Answersearlier from the mainconfiguration screen.QWe have recentlymigrated to SB7and after installingI-QU PLUS-1 (or Q-LINK)we get a Divide Fault whentrying to execute. What isthe problem?QWhen I print fromUTS Express Plus32, it prints inlandscape style and doesn'tuse the font that I want. Why is that?AThe last issue ofQ-Tips stated thatthere was aproblem with ACOB level7R2E or when PCR number00440-03369-PCR hadbeen applied to an earlierlevel of COBOL. Thesolution called for applying00440-0314-PCR to COBOL.It has since beendiscovered that the level ofACOB released with SB7,7R2F, did not have 004400314-PCR integrated (it hasbeen integrated in 7R2G).If you build and install anylevel of I-QU PLUS-1 or QLINK with ACOB level 7R2F,you will also need to makesure the PCR has beenapplied. The PCR is notrequired if you choose to“Quick Install” I-QU PLUS1 or Q-LINK as outlined inChapter 1 of the InstallationGuide.AIn UTS ExpressPlus 32, you mustuse the configuration dialog to set up theprinters you will use, thenassign them to the screenthat you want.If you havequestions, commentsor helpfultips thatmay be ofinterest to otherusers, please write to us.KMSystems, Inc.Attn.
