As a student, she wasactively involved in campus organizations, including the Purdue Engineering Student Council. During her senior year, shefounded the Purdue Women in ECE club.SYED “SHAYAN”ZAHID (ME’19)CAMBRIDGE , MASSACHUSET TSANNUAL MEMBERZahid is currently pursuing hismaster ’s in aeronautics andastronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He previously worked forCummins, an automotive engine manufacturing company.In collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration, heis conducting research to reduce aircraft emissions. He is anadvisor to the MIT president, chancellor, and vice chancellor;a graduate student representative on the MIT Committee onStudent Life; and the vice president of the MIT Graduate Student Council, the governing body for all graduate students oncampus. He plans to join Apple as a product design engineerfor the iPhone subgroup when he graduates in May. As a Purdue student, he advocated for a resolution of diversity, equity,and inclusion issues on campus.

He worked in avariety of capacities in the IT industrybefore joining the full-time faculty forthe School of Information Technology at Ivy Tech in Lafayette.He recently was appointed department chair of the school.He has served on the Purdue Technology Alumni Board, thePurdue Alumni Association Board of Directors, and the Purdue Alumni Association Advisory Committee. As a memberof the Purdue Alumni board and advisory committee, he wasinvolved in the establishment of the Purdue for Life Foundation. He received the Purdue Alumni Association Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2012. He and his wife, Amanda(Hopkins) Baitz (EDU’03), have four sons. An active volunteerwith Tippecanoe County 4-H, he enjoys raising and showinglivestock with his children.Baerman is CEO of ExecutiveAdvisory Services and is onthe board of directors for FPL Food and the Atlanta chapterof the National Association of Corporate Directors. She is acertified director, a governance fellow, and a leadership fellowwith the National Association of Corporate Directors. She hasserved in executive leadership and profit-and-loss management roles with many companies, including Kraft Foods, MillerBrewing Company, Anheuser-Busch, and TRW Automotive.She previously was on the board of directors for EPI Breads,Graphic Packaging International, the Human Resource Leadership Forum, and the north-shore region of the AmericanCancer Society. She has been active with the Purdue AlumniClubs of Chicago, Atlanta, and Southwest Florida and is amember of President’s Council and the John Purdue Club.GREG JUNG (M’94)WESTFIELD, INDIANAANNUAL MEMBERJung is the chief growth officer at SevenCorners, a travel insurance andbenefit-management company. He previously spent10 years as senior vicepresident of global marketing and corporate affairs at Bank ofAmerica. He will complete the executive MBA program at theUniversity of Notre Dame in May. He received his MBA fromButler University in 1998 and has served on the board of directors for the Butler University Alumni Association since 2018. Hehas been active with the Purdue Young Alumni Advisory Boardand the Purdue Alumni Clubs of Charlotte, San Diego, and Chicago; founded the Purdue LGBTQ Alumni Network in 2018;and is a member of the John Purdue Club. At Purdue, he was astudent representative on the West Lafayette City Council andparticipated in many campus organizations.PURDUEFORLIFE .ORG KARISSA DONNOEHODSON (L A’08)COLUMBUS, OHIOLIFE MEMBERHodson is senior litigation counsel at Grange Insurance. She islicensed as an attorney in thestates of Colorado and Ohio andhas focused her career on litigation for commercial insurance.She has served in volunteer roles with the Junior League,focusing on membership development and engagement. Shehas more than 13 years of volunteer experience with the Purdue Alumni Association; was president of the Purdue AlumniClubs of Colorado, Fort Wayne, and Central Ohio; and is amember of the John Purdue Club. She is philanthropically motivated through herinvolvement with Habitat for Humanity, Giant Steps, and Cityof Hope.Basu is a partner and cofounderat Norton Basu, an estate-planning and probate-service firm.She is the chair for the solo andsmall firm section of the California Lawyers Association and was a cochair of the DiversityOutreach Committee for the Purdue College of Liberal Arts.She previously worked at Prudential Financial, IBM, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and HSBC Bank USA. She is a foundingmember and active leader of the Purdue Women’s Network ofChicago. She served as president of the Purdue Alumni Clubsof Chicago and the N/NW Suburbs of Chicago. She is involvedwith the Purdue for Life family as a member of President’sCouncil and the John Purdue Club. After 15years with large corporations, shemoved to Silicon Valley, where she shifted gears and foundedseveral businesses, including a self-service point-of-salecompany that transformed the vending industry. She was anearly member of the Silicon Valley Boiler Innovation Groupand has worked with many early-stage startups at Purdue.She was a founding member of the International Council ofPurdue Women, now known as Purdue Women’s Network,and has participated in Purdue’s Executive-in-Residence program. She published the book You Can Choose, a collection ofthoughts and observations about interacting with the worldand leading an empowered life.

As stated in the Purdue Alumni Associationbylaws Article IX, the board of directorsserves as the nominating committee foralumni representatives of the corporationon the Purdue University Board of Trusteesas provided by law. As such, the board hasendorsed one candidate through an electionconducted at the fall 2021 board meeting.Other members of the alumni associationmay also run for the position of alumni trusteeas defined in the bylaws by certifying theirnomination at least 90 days prior to the annualmeeting. After seven years in the feed and pharmaceutical industries,he joined Belstra Milling Co., a family- and employee-owned regionalfeed manufacturer, in 1991. The company’s business includes feedproduction and transport, pig production, and agriculture tourism.DeKryger is president and CEO and part owner of the company.Under his leadership, Belstra Milling’s pig production businesshas grown to nearly 18,500 sows, producing 550,000 pigs per year.The feed-supply business has grown sixfold with the development of thepig farms and the feed supply of more than 110,000 dairy cows. DeKrygerconceptualized and manages all phases of the company’s farms.DeKryger served on the Indiana State Departmentof Agriculture Board and the College of AgricultureDean’s Advisory Council at Purdue. He was named aDistinguished Alumnus of the College of Agricultureand the Department of Animal Sciences. He is amember of Partners Worldwide and the First Christian Reformed Church of DeMotte.DeKryger and his wife, Donna (MS EDU’83),a retired schoolteacher, have three children.Megan, 36, is a speech therapist; Nick (MSA’14), 34, is the vice president of businessand finance at Belstra Milling Co.; andJenna, 31, is a nurse practitioner.
