Sunshine Coast Youth Summit BackgroundThe Sunshine Coast Youth Summit is an annual event organised to inspire and empower Sunshine Coastyoung people aged 15 to 25 years to discuss and develop solutions to issues identified as important withintheir local community.The Sunshine Coast Youth Summit was first held in 2008, inspired by Kevin Rudd’s Youth 2020 Summit, acreative approach to addressing the concerns of the nation’s young people in order to instigate change.The Sunshine Coast Youth Summit was developed for young people by young people throughSustainable Partnerships Australia’s, Future Leaders Program.Key objectives of the Sunshine Coast Youth Summit are to: Develop connections between young people, key stakeholders of the community andcouncil, and local/state/federal government. Educate young people about Sunshine Coast Councils strategies, policies, planning, andvisions for the future Engage young people in the development, structure and running of the Summit. Empower young people to be vocal and heard within their community. Leadership development Collaborate partnerships between young people, community, industry and government Engagement in policy development and decision makingBy holding the Sunshine Coast Youth Summit annually young people have been given the opportunityto continue to work towards resolving the issues they identified as affecting them and their communityand to then report back on their progress and achievements. Youth Summit Coordinators and Facilitator ProfilesSustainable Partnerships AustraliaSunshine Coast Youth Summit Coordinator - Senior Project Officer for Youth Engagement,Jade FrieserJade Frieser is the Youth Engagement Senior Project Officer at SustainablePartnerships Australia (SPA). Having stumbled across SPA (formerly knownas Sunshine Coast Youth Partnership) in 2011 as a potential organisation tocomplete her vocational placement hours whilst studying a Cert IV in YouthWork & Community Services, Jade soon realised that the organisation alignedperfectly with a long term goal. After volunteering for 6 months, Jade wasoffered casual work as an Assistant Project Officer, assisting with the deliveryand implementation of various youth programs.In 2015 Jade will be focusing her attention to a new social enterprise Hold Fast Entertainment, a newbusiness venture designed to provide a sustainable income for SPA to ensure the organisation is ableto thrive and provide services long into the future. Other projects Jade will be delivering in 2015 are:Raw Sounds Festival & Homegrown Mini Fest during National Youth Week, Philanthropy in ActionYEA Crews in Buderim State School & Mountain Creek State School.Jade currently holds a Cert IV in Youth Work & Community Services, Diploma of Children’s Servicesand Diploma of Music Performance & Technical Productions.Sunshine Coast CouncilCommunity Development Officer for Community Planning & Strategy - Cindi CoinixCindi has worked in the Human Services sector for the past 18 years both inAustralia and overseas.In 2006, Cindi joined the Sunshine Coast Council as a CommunityDevelopment Officer and has been involved with several developmentportfolios areas including Community Safety, Aboriginal and Torres StraitIslander liaison, and most recently Youth Development and Engagement.Cindi was the key council worker involved in Speak Up Engage, SunshineCoast Council’s youth engagement program which has led to the development of the Sunshine CoastYouth Strategy 2010-2015.In 2010, Cindi was invited to attend the Public Sector Community Engagement Forum where she wasan expert presenter on engaging young people on their terms.7 PageA project of Sustainable PartnershipsAustralia in conjunction with SunshineCoast Council

Accommodation / HousingWorkshop Facilitator – Angela Tennant, Cost 2 Bay Housing GroupAngela joined Coast2Bay in March 2011 and has worked as a Tenant Advocate,Community Engagement Manager and is now a Tenancy Manager in the TenancyPlanning Team.Since graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Social WorkAngela has worked extensively with families, children and young people in Far NorthQueensland, North Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Angela has experience workingin the Youth Justice System, Child Safety Services and as a youth worker in residentialcare services.Workshop Facilitator – Sam Hemsley, Coast 2 Bay Housing GroupSam Hemsley is the Community Engagement Coordinator at Coast2Bay Housingand has been with the Organisation since November 2014. She has an Honours inPsychology and a Certificate IV in Project Management.Since graduating from James Cook University in Townsville, Sam has workedwithin the health care arena for a number of Government and not-for-profitorganisations, including the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, Departmentof Defence, and Focus Health Network.Although relatively new to the community housing sector, Sam has alreadyestablished a strong understanding of the many barriers faced by our population inaccessing affordable housing. Sam is committed to helping overcome such barriers through thedevelopment an active Community Engagement Program for Coast2Bay tenants in 2015. She hopesto encourage tenant participation in decision making, to build tenant strength and resilience throughknowledge and skill development, to remain responsive to community need, and to promote socialinclusion for Coast2Bay tenants through a range of activities and events, information access, andthrough facilitating community connections and referral pathways.Sexuality (Relationships, Health, Identity)Workshop Facilitator – Karen McGill, Cliniq 87Karen has been employed in the health sector for 30yrs from in all nursing areas inpublic health and private facilities around the state.Qualified and experienced Registered Nurse and Midwife, Youth and Family Health,Fertility and Reproductive Health Nursing and currently Nurse Unit Manager atSunshine Coast Sexual Health and HIV Service for the past 5 years.8 PageA project of Sustainable PartnershipsAustralia in conjunction with SunshineCoast Council

Drugs, Alcohol & Personal SafetyWorkshop Facilitator – Lynda Fraser, Sunshine Coast CouncilLynda Fraser has been working in local government for over a decade. She has adiverse background in local government from corporate to community development.Lynda works with local communities, federal and state government agencies to addressactual and perceived safety concerns and risks of harm and injury that affect quality oflife and wellbeing on the Sunshine Coast.Workshop Facilitator – Meagan Hyam, Noffs FoundationMeagan Hyam is the QLD Services Manager at Ted Noffs Foundation (Noffs QLD).Meagan has worked in the human services industry for the past 17 years, across arange of both adult and youth focused environments. She holds qualifications inPsychology, Counselling, criminology and forensic mental health and has foundher home at Noffs QLD, working with youth 12-25 with Alcohol and Drug relatedissues.She has a strong interest in supporting young people to reach their goals and as amother of 4, recognizes the challenges that young people can often face. She hasa passion for working with youth engaged in the criminal justice system, and youth with complex andchallenging presentations.In 2015 Meagan is excited to help launch Noffs into QLD and to develop a range of programs designed topromote pro-social behaviours, improve mental health, and skill enhancement.Education, Training & EmploymentWorkshop Facilitator – Paul Martins, Sunshine Coast CouncilPaul Martins leads the Economic Development Branch for the Sunshine CoastCouncil.Paul and his team manage the economic priorities of Council and work with localstakeholders to implement the Regional Economic Development Strategy for theregion.Paul came to this role from a strong government and private sector background. Priorto joining the Sunshine Coast Council, Paul was the Chief Executive Officer of RitekBuilding Solutions, a local manufacturer. Paul has also held Senior Executive Servicepositions with the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) as Group ManagerOpportunities (Sydney), Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner to Malaysia and Brunei and Head of itsASEAN Infrastructure Unit. wide industry background and has a track record of attracting investment into Australia, most recentlyhelping Tune Hotel Group set-up in Melbourne and Talisman Energy in Brisbane (with the support of theBrisbane City Council and Qld Government).Workshop Facilitator – Kellie Holdsworth, Sunshine Coast CouncilKellie Holdsworth is Acting Industry Investment Facilitator for the Education andResearch sector within the Economic Development Branch of Sunshine CoastCouncil.Economic Development Branch are committed to delivering the economicpriorities of Council for the region.Outside of Council duties Kellie stays engaged with a great variety of youngpeople from all walks of life while travelling around Queensland and NorthernNSW refereeing roller derby.EnvironmentWorkshop Facilitator – Denise Lindon, Sunshine Coast CouncilDenise has worked in the environmental field for over 25 years working for boththe State and local government.She started out with a few years with Queensland National Parks and Wildlife andthen moved into the field of water and worked on the State of the Rivers Projectfor many years.She currently works for the Sunshine Coast Council as Coordinator of theCommunity Catchment Partnerships Team and manages a number of programsincluding Natural Waterways, Catchment Management, Land for Wildlife,Environment Grants and Partnerships and Community Nature Conservation.Workshop Facilitator – Wendy Cliff, Sunshine Coast CouncilWendy has recently joined the Sunshine Coast Council and heads up theCommunity Nature Conservation Program which fosters and supports communityvolunteer involvement in natural area protection and restoration.In her previous 8 years of employment she has worked as a Park Ranger,Community Ranger and Volunteer Support Officer for the Department ofEnvironment in South Australia, developing her skills and building knowledge inpark management, environment & conservation planning, delivering conservationprograms, community & stakeholder engagement, volunteer management andproject management.One of her passions is supporting the Thin Green Line Foundation, a charity aimed at ProtectingNatures Protectors by providing support to park rangers and their communities, predominantly indeveloping nations where many are killed on the frontline for conservation.10 P a g eA project of Sustainable PartnershipsAustralia in conjunction with SunshineCoast Council

Mental, Physical & Emotional HealthWorkshop Facilitator – Aaron Williams, MindstarAaron Williams is the CEO of Mindstar, a new wellbeing & mental health online socialenterprise that connects children, adults, schools and businesses with online selfguided wellbeing programs and professional therapists and counsellors via Mindstar'ssecure online video platform. The Mindstar wellbeing programs are free for youngpeople under 25 years of age - www.mindstar.com.auAaron has previously worked in schools, the community sector and in policy andprogram management positions for the state government. Aaron is a mental healthclinician and trainer with the Sunshine Coast Child and Youth Mental Health Serviceat Maroochydore. He is currently completing his PhD and provides lectures on youthmental health at the University of Queensland.Recreational & Entertainment ActivitiesWorkshop Facilitator – Anita Freed, Sunshine Coast CouncilAnita Freed is Sunshine Coast Council’s Performing Arts Curator. Since commencingin 2011, she has initiated the annual professional theatre program and programs thevenues within Council’s Major Venues Unit. Anita has expertise in live theatre, eventmanagement and technical production, having worked extensively in the theatre andevent industry in Sydney for clients including Darling Harbour Authority, Qantas, WhoMagazine, Myer as well as working on various theatre productions and in theatresaround Sydney and since 2009 in Queensland.Anita has Post Graduate qualifications in Design Science, Lighting (University of Sydney), a BA in VisualArts (University NSW) and a Certificate in Small Business Management.Workshop Facilitator – Colin Potter, Sunshine Coast CouncilColin has a wide professional background, and currently works for Sunshine CoastCouncil. For over 20 years he worked in the Library and Information industries withinthe local, State and education sectors in Queensland , NSW and the United States.He is passionate about information, cultural, education and access services for youngpeople. He has held national roles improving customer satisfaction, staffsatisfaction and sales. He has a passion for excellence in customer serviceand has worked in council for the last 5 years. Currently Mitch is Council’sCoordinator of Community Programs & EventsTransportWorkshop Facilitator – Hannah Richardson, Sunshine Coast CouncilHannah is the Coordinator, Traffic and Transportation and holds degrees in bothCivil Engineering and Urban and Regional Planning. Hannah gained experience intraffic engineering and strategic transport planning working in the private sectorbefore beginning work for local government at the Sunshine Coast Council.Peer Pressure / Social InclusionWorkshop Facilitator – Rhiannon Sims, Headspace MaroochydoreRhiannon Sims is the Youth and Community Officer at headspace Maroochydore –working with schools, community organisations and health professionals to raiseawareness about the importance of help-seeking for mental health concerns.Rhiannon has more than ten years’ experience in the areas of Marketing,Communication and Education. She has worked in media, marketing, communicationsand major events for the NSW Government, the Cerebral Palsy League and mostrecently with Sunshine Coast based not-for-profit United Synergies. Rhiannon’spassion is in making services accessible to the community through meaningfulparticipation and stakeholder driven communication.Her formal qualifications include a Bachelor Arts/Commerce in Marketing and Communications (Universityof Wollongong) and a Bachelor Teaching (Secondary) from Charles Sturt University. Workshop Facilitator – Fraser Landreth, Headspace MaroochydoreFraser Landreth is both Youth and Community Officer, and Clinician at headspaceMaroochydore where he works with young people to encourage help-seeking formental health needs, and supporting them toward getting wellAs a Sunny Coast local, Fraser has worked in roles engaging youth over the last 8years through music events and venues, Lifeline, Uniting Care Community, and mostrecently at headspace Maroochydore.Fraser has a Bachelor of Psychology, Diploma of Events Management, and iscurrently completing his Bachelor of Psychology (Honours).
