District 30-MNewsDistrict GovernorTommy Ragan“It is one of the most beautiful compensations in life, that no man can sincerely tryto help another without helping himself:,Ralph Waldo Emerson.”Lions of District 30-M, It has been a privilege and an honor serving you this year. Ihope that in some way that I have donesomething that has helped you because Iknow many of you have helped me. I haveenjoyed meeting so many great Lions andlearning about the service that has beendone. I am going to miss visiting clubs asDistrict Governor because I have learnedso much about being a Lion. I look forwardserving you in other capacities.Growth is still a concern. We have grownbut not as much as I had hoped for. Weare still under the number of members westarted with last year. But we are growing.Several clubs have added new members.Thank you for your hard work. We need tocontinue to invite people to service projects and to other functions. Invite peopleto an LCIF fund raiser and share with themwhat LCIF is all about. Or tell them aboutany other charitable program we serve.Show PRIDE about being a Lion.I had the privilege of getting to visit theGirls and Boys Leadership Conferencesand was very impressed with the attendees. Great young people. I hope tovisit more Lion-sponsored events beforethe year is complete.Despite some short falls, this has been agood year for Lions. We are back meeting,we are out serving our communities andgrowing in numbers. The Mid-Winter convention went very well because of all theLions that attended and because of all theLions that had input. I thank you all. Thefood drive for Veterans was a great success. I hope we can continue that. I am soproud of all who donated food. It warmsthe heart to know people who care andshare with others. We collected enoughfood to fill up a truck bed. FANTASTIC!Many other great things happened duringthe year. PID Lion Howard Jenkins wasinducted into the L.B. Baker Hall of Honorat the 80th Anniversary of Mid-South LionsPast International Director Howard “The Man of Steel” Jenkins was recently inducted intothe LB Baker Hall of Honor for 40 years of service to Mid-South Sight and Hearing service. His induction was held in conjunction with Mid-South’s 80th Anniversary Celebration.banquet for 40-plus years of service. Columbus East Lions Club also had a meetand greet for Lion Howard where the community showed their respect to a greatLion. Several awards were presented atthe State Convention. Celia Carter waspresented the International PresidentsCertificate of Appreciation by ID Youney. Ihave 3 more to present along with aDalstrom, but I can’t let the cat out of thebag here in case I don’t get to presentthem before the Magnolia Lion is in ourmember’s hands.I am proud of all the Lions that receivedawards this year. These Lions worked hardto help others and to encourage others tobe better Lions. Sometimes you can’t putinto words what a person has done to deserve an award. But I feel that all the Lionsthat have received an award this year arevery deserving. I am proud to know them. There are many things we need to do topreserve our future. We need to grow, weneed to serve more, we need to serve other clubs, and we need to serve our District. We need Lions to step up and serve. Youknow without leaders we can’t continue toprosper and it is getting harder to get Lions to serve in leadership roles. We needto train club officers. I know there are clubofficers that need training. I have seenthings done that are not consistent withLions protocol. I am hoping to be involvedwith GLT next year and resolve some ofthe inconsistencies that I have witnessed. It is my hope that club officers will want toreceive proper training so that we are allfunctioning properly and efficiently.Sometimes a past officer might have beendoing things their way, the easy way, orthe wrong way because they never tookthe time to receive the proper training.Let’s commit to resolve this issue and urgeour club officers to seek out the resourcesthey are afforded.Again, thank you all for allowing me tovisit your clubs. We Serve!DG Tommy Ragan, 2021-22
