Please join us forthis special prayer for all of life!To Fellow Disciples of our Lord Jesus,BREAKING CHAINS!“Remember Christ Jesus, raised from the dead, adescendant of David---that is my gospel, for which Isuffer hardship, even to the point of being CHAINEDlike a criminal. But the word of God is not CHAINED!(2 Timothy 2, 8 & 9)St. Paul explains this to his disciple Timothy in thisweekend’s second reading. So our very talented anddedicated staff picked this as the theme for our six-weekfall message series. BREAKING CHAINS!What: Soups and Sips: A Celebration of MissionWhen: Sunday, October 20, 2019, 9:00AM-2:00PMWhere: Cathedral of St. John the EvangelistWhat are some of the chains that might bind you?Looking at the Word of God for these six weeks we arecentering in on the following:·Week One: Ungratefulness.·Week Two: Injustice.·Week Three: Pride.·Week Four: Jealousy.·Week Five: Worry.·Week Six:El Salvador Ministry is participating in this event and willbe presenting information about our twinning relationshipwith Rutilio Grande and the programs Seton supports inEl Salvador.Day will include:· 9:00 am Mass with Archbishop Listecki· Sips of international coffees and light refreshmentsafter Mass· A selection of soups and breads in the afternoon· Mission displays from locally based Mission Groupsand Twinning Parishes that highlight their workaround the world· Workshop on Laudata Si’· Presentation from Twinning Parishes· Mission/Fair Trade items available for sale/donation· Information about our upcoming mission tripsNeglect. What is the solution to breaking these chains? Becausemost of us are roughed individualist, we think that wehave to solve our own problems. We go to “self-help”books to figure out the answers. But above all else, weare disciples of Jesus. Before anything else, we areChristians. Therefore for us disciple-Christians, theanswer or solution must always be first and foremost—Jesus and His way. We cannot do this by ourselves. Wealways need a Savior and Lord and this is only Jesus asour only Messiah. This is called GRACE. But Grace is nota thing or a quantity. Grace is the very presence of Godwithin us to lead, guide and strengthen us in the ways ofJesus. Only Grace can change us and BREAK THOSECHAINS. That is why they call it “Amazing Grace.”This event is free and open to everyone. Free-willdonations to support the missions are welcome.Mission Appeal WeekendOur annual Mission Appeal weekend is October 26 and27. We are anxiously awaiting a video from RutilioGrande; A clip of the video will be presented during eachMass. Rutilio Grande is very excited to personally tell ushow much our Mission Appeal funds have impacted theirlives.Early Fall Blessings and Shalom,Save the Date: Spring El Salvador TripA delegation to El Salvador is planned for April 15-21,2020. Our high school teensassembled these Care Packages (along with childrentreasures) during their Homeless Awareness Project. Thanks to all who made this possible!Suggestion for the WeekI have a friend who was diagnosed withstage 4 cancer several years ago. Whenshe was told this by her doctors, her reaction was faithfilled – what are the treatment options and when do weget started. After several very rigorous months oftreatments, her cancer was gone and her attitude hadremained optimistic throughout. Her medical team wasimpressed and credited her new clean bill-of-healthdiagnosis to that positive thinking. When they askedabout where her strength came from, she replied thisverse from Luke – “Stand up and go; your faith has savedyou.” As early sunsets progress this week, take a fewmoments to reflect on moments in your life that faith inGod has healed you in any way. As you compile a list, besure to say prayers of thanksgiving to our generous God.Peace,Mickey Holtz, Director of Youth Ministry Katie Coyne, Director of fFmily Ministry & Communications3Women's Morning of Reflection - November 9Our Extraordinary God, Alive in our Ordinary Lives:Discovering our CharismsGod's intimate and powerful presence manifests itself inmany ways in our ordinary lives. One of those ways isthrough our charisms or spiritual gifts. Come and joinwomen of all ages as we grow in awareness andunderstanding of charisms. Begin the process ofdiscerning your own personal charisms that will enableyou to take your discipleship to levels beyond yourimagination. Sign up online or pick up a flyer at theinformation booth.
