Other InsurancesThe insurance cover described in this booklet isprovided for your benefit under a Group Policyentered into between Allianz, Allianz GlobalAssistance and Citibank. Citibank is the policyowner. As an eligible cardholder, you havethe benefit of insurance cover as a third partybeneficiary.If you are entitled to receive a benefit or makea claim under another insurance policy (‘OtherPolicy”) (for example, a comprehensive travelinsurance policy for your journey), in respectof the same loss as your claim under this GroupPolicy, then Allianz is not liable to provideindemnity under this Group Policy until theamount of any indemnity under that Other Policyis exhausted. Reverse charge calls to this numbercan be made from many countries via AustraliaDirect , Telstra's international reverse chargeservice.We recommend you take this booklet with youwhen travelling overseas as it contains importantphone numbers and details of the covers provided.You should also take copies of your overseastravel and flight itinerary, your credit cardstatement and evidence of how you obtained youroverseas travel tickets to help with proof of youreligibility for the covers.If you want to make a claim whilst overseas,you will need to prove to us or our agents thatyour overseas travel tickets were obtained inaccordance with the requirements set out in thisbooklet. Without this information, a claim maybe delayed and it may not be possible for us orour agents to give approval for overseas medicalattention.Definitions and InterpretationThe words below and/or their plurals, whenhighlighted in bold, have the following specificmeanings in this booklet.‘ ’ means Australian dollar.‘accident’ means any sudden and unexpectedphysical event.‘act of terrorism’ means an act, including butnot limited to, actual and/or threatened useof force or violence, of any person or group(s)of persons, whether acting alone or on behalfof or in connection with any organisation(s) orgovernment(s), which from its nature or context isdone for, or in connection with, political, religious,ideological, ethnic, racial, economic or similarpurposes or reasons including the intention toinfluence any government and/or to put the public,or any section of the public, in fear.‘Australia’ means the area enclosed by the territorialwaters of the Commonwealth of Australia whereMedicare benefits are payable. For the avoidance of6

doubt, Australia does not include Norfolk Island.‘bed care patient’ is when you are confined to anoverseas hospital bed for at least 24 continuoushours as a result of an injury or illness occurringduring the journey.Your confinement must be certified as necessaryby a qualified and registered medical practitioner.The confinement does not include time you spendin any institution used primarily as a nursing orconvalescent home, a place of rest, a geriatricward, a mental institution, rehabilitation orexternal care facility, or a place for the care ortreatment of alcoholism or drug addiction.‘business effect’ means a new item acquiredfor use by the business, but does not include thefollowing: items with an original purchase price in excessof 3,000; items acquired for the purpose of sale or trade; items acquired to undergo process ortransformation in the business; animals or plant life; computer software or non-tangible items; cash, bullion, negotiable instruments, vouchers,gift cards, trading cards, tickets of anydescription, travellers cheques or collectionssuch as stamps, coins and cards; consumable or perishable items (including butnot limited to food, drink, drugs, cosmetics, fuelor oil); boats, automobiles, motorboats, motorcycles,airplanes or any other motorised vehicles andtheir integral parts and installed accessories; second-hand items including antiques; items of contraband; or real estate and movable fixtures or fittings(including but not limited to dish washers,stoves, ovens and fixed air conditioners) whichare or are intended to form part of any home orreal estate.‘card’ means a current and valid personal: Platinum MasterCard7

Platinum Low Rate MasterCard Silver Rewards MasterCard Silver Low Rate MasterCard Low Rate MasterCardaccount issued by Citibank.‘cardholder’ means a person who resides inAustralia, and holds either an Australian Medicarecard or a subclass 457 Visa and to whom Citibankhas issued a card, and includes additionalcardholders.‘conveyance’ means an aircraft, vehicle, taxi,train, coach, vessel or other public transportationthat is licensed or authorised to carry fare-payingpassengers.‘covered breakdown’ means the failure of acovered product to operate for the purposefor which it was designed, as a direct result of abreakdown or defect. This does not include wherethe breakdown or defect is covered by the terms ofthe registered warranty.‘covered product’ meansa)business effects; orb) a new item purchased for personal, domesticor household use but excludes: items acquired for the purpose of sale or trade; animals or plant life; computer software or non-tangible items; cash, bullion, negotiable instruments, vouchers,gift cards, trading cards, tickets of anydescription, travellers cheques or collectionssuch as stamps, coins and cards; consumable or perishable items (including butnot limited to food, drink, drugs, cosmetics, fuelor oil); boats, automobiles, motorboats, motorcycles,airplanes or any other motorised vehicles andtheir integral parts and installed accessories; second-hand items including antiques; items of contraband;8

real estate and movable fixtures or fittings(including but not limited to dish washers,stoves, ovens and fixed air conditioners) whichare or are intended to form part of any home orreal estate; or items purchased for a price of more than 10,000 per item for Guaranteed PricingScheme and Purchase Cover Insurance and 20,000 per item for Extended WarrantyInsurance.‘dangerous activities’ means your consciousexposure to exceptional danger, unless in anattempt to preserve your life or the life of anotherperson; during the journey and includes but is notlimited to activities such as: scuba diving unless you hold an open waterdiving certificate or are diving with a qualifiedand registered diving instructor; mountaineering, rock climbing, racing (otherthan on foot), white water rafting, boating,abseiling, parasailing, skydiving, hang-gliding,base jumping, bungy jumping, pot holing,canyoning, caving, fire walking, running withthe bulls, rodeo riding, polo playing, hunting,shooting, archery, tobogganing, water skiing,jet skiing, off-piste snow skiing, off-pistesnowboarding, snow mobiling or any othersimilar activity; or participation in any kind of professional sport.‘dependent child’ means an unmarried child of acardholder, up to and including the age of 21, whois primarily dependant on the cardholder for theirmaintenance and support and who travels with thecardholder for the entire journey or trip but doesnot include a child born on the journey or trip.‘epidemic/pandemic’ means anything defined bythe World Health Organisation to be an epidemic/pandemic or to have reached epidemic and/orpandemic status (as stated on either www.who.intor www.smarttraveller.gov.au).9

‘excess’ means the amount you must firstcontribute towards any claim as specified in the“Excesses – What you contribute to a claim”section of this booklet.‘funeral expenses’ means the costs of returningyour remains or ashes to your home town/cityin Australia and/or the costs of your funeralor cremation (including overseas funeral orcremation if you died overseas).‘injury/injured’ means loss of life or bodily hurtcaused by an accident during the journey wherethat accident is caused by violent, external andvisible means, and results independently of anyother cause. Injury does not include illness ordisease.‘interstate flight’ means travel on a registeredand scheduled commercial passenger airlinefrom any Australian state or territory to anotherAustralian state or territory.‘journey’ means travel to or from Australia asoutlined under the ‘When does cover apply?’headings in the International Travel Insurance andInterstate Flight Inconvenience Insurance sections.‘legal liability’ means your responsibility to paycompensation or damages for negligently causing: injury to someone other than you, yourspouse, your dependent children, your travelcompanion or your employee; or loss of or damage to property owned by or inthe control of someone other than you, yourspouse, your dependent children or yourtravel companion, during the journey.‘medical expenses’ means necessary andreasonable expenses incurred for: medical, paramedical, surgical and othertreatment given or prescribed by a qualifiedand registered medical practitioner; ambulance and hospital charges; emergency dental charges up to a limit of 1,250 for the relief of unexpected, sudden andsevere pain certified by a treating dentist. Thisdoes not include dental treatment arising fromdeterioration, decay or normal wear and tear ofteeth.10

‘natural disaster’ means any event or forceof nature that has catastrophic consequences,such as avalanche, earthquake, flood, bushfire, hurricane, tornado, cyclone, tsunami andvolcanic eruption.‘overseas’ means outside of Australia.‘overseas travel ticket’ means either: a one way ticket from Australia to an overseasdestination; or a return ticket to an overseas destination andreturning to Australia.‘pre-existing medical condition’ in relation to thecardholder, any relative, travel companion orany other person that may give cause for you toclaim, means: any medical condition including but not limitedto mental disorder, anxiety, alcoholism, drugaddiction and/or any chronic or ongoingphysical, medical or dental condition, of whichyou are aware or for which investigation,treatment or advice has been received ormedication prescribed or taken at any timebefore commencement of your journey; and any complication caused by or arising from anysuch condition outlined above.For the avoidance of doubt, pregnancy is not apre-existing medical condition.‘public place’ includes but is not limited to shops,buses, planes, trains, taxis, ferries, airports,bus depots, railway stations, streets, hotel andconference centre foyers (and hallways, commonareas, grounds and unlocked rooms), restaurants,beaches, around swimming pools, toilets, carparks, office areas, behind counters, housing andhostel common areas, unlocked hostel rooms andany place that is accessible to or by the public.‘registered warranty’ means the manufacturer’swritten warranty, properly registered with themanufacturer, that is applicable and able to befulfilled within Australia.‘relative’ means a permanent resident living inAustralia, who is related to the cardholder bybirth, marriage, de facto or affianced relationship.11

‘rental vehicle’ means a rented sedan and/orstation wagon but not any other style of vehicle,rented from a licensed motor vehicle rentalagency.‘special event’ means a wedding, funeral, prepaid conference, pre-paid sporting event, pre-paidconcert, pre-paid cruise or pre-paid tour which beforeyou left Australia you had planned to attend.‘spouse’ means a married, de facto or affiancedpartner of the cardholder who is permanentlyliving with the cardholder at the time the journeyor trip starts and who travels with the cardholderfor the entire journey or trip. We may ask for proofof this relationship.‘travel companion’ means a person who, beforethe journey began, arranged to accompany youand then was on your journey for at least 50% ofthe time of your journey.‘travel services provider’ means any scheduledservices airline, coach operator, bus operator,shipping line or railway company, ferry, transportprovider, hotel, hostel, accommodation provider,car rental agency, travel agent, tour or cruiseoperator, travel or tour wholesaler, booking agent,conference organiser or any other provider oftravel or tourism related services, facilities oraccommodation.‘trip’ means an overseas passage by thecardholder and/or their spouse and/or dependentchildren as paying passengers on a conveyance.‘unattended’ means but is not limited to whenyour belongings are not with either you or yourtravel companion or an Australian resident,whom you can Identify and tell us where theylive, or are in a position where they can be takenwithout you or your travel companion or theAustralian resident knowing or being able toprevent them being taken.This includes when you or your travel companionor the Australian resident are asleep and yourbelongings are taken without any of you knowing.‘you’, ‘your’ and ‘yourself’ means any of thefollowing if they are eligible for the cover: the cardholder; and the spouse and/or dependent children.12

Terms and Conditions applying toall CoversYou need to comply with your obligations underthe terms and conditions set out in this bookletotherwise we may refuse to pay your claim.Telling us about your travel arrangementsYou do not have to tell us or Citbanki that you willbe travelling. So long as you comply with the termsand conditions of this insurance cover, you areautomatically covered.How can this policy be terminated or changed?Citibank may terminate or change any one or allof the covers at any time. Citibank will give youwritten notice of the change or termination.The existing cover will apply to purchases madebefore the date of the change or termination.Excesses – What you contribute to a claimYou must pay the following excess amountsfor each claim made under the following coversections even if a number of claims are submittedon the one claim form. However If you make morethan one claim as the result of a single event, thehighest excess will apply but will only apply once.13

Minimising lossYou must take all reasonable steps to prevent orminimise loss.You must take all reasonable precautions tosafeguard your belongings. For example, leavingyour belongings unattended in a public placeencourages theft and is not a reasonable precaution.You must take all reasonable steps to safeguardyour own safety and follow the advice and heedthe warnings of any government or governmentagency and any official body and heed warningsbroadcast in the mass media.HeadingsHeadings have been included for ease of referencebut do not form part of the policy.ExclusionsThe exclusions below set out what is not covered.You should also read each section as they maycontain specific exclusions that also apply.We do not cover you for any claims for, caused byor arising from (whether directly or indirectly):Medical1.any pre-existing medical condition of yours,a relative, travel companion or any otherperson that may give cause for you to claimunless it is specifically covered in InternationalTravel Insurance or we have given priorwritten approval to cover the pre-existingmedical condition and you have paid theadministration fee;2.any travel you book or take against medicaladvice, take for the purpose of gettingmedical treatment or advice, or take after aqualified and registered medical practitionerinforms you that you are terminally ill;3.medical expenses you incur for treatmentin Australia;4.medical expenses which can otherwise beclaimed under Medicare and/or any privatemedical fund or government scheme;5.death, illness, injury, sickness or disease of orrelating to persons living outside Australia;15

6.your suicide, attempted suicide, self-inflictedinjury or illness or condition or harm;7.(a) the effect of or chronic use of alcohol ordrugs; or(b) any transmissible disease as a result ofgiving or taking a drug, unless the useof the drug is supervised by a qualifiedand registered medical practitioner andthe disease is otherwise not excluded inExclusion 8 below;8.sexually transmissible diseases, infection orvirus of any sort, regardless of how you cameto be infected, Acquired Immune DeficiencySyndrome (AIDS) or AIDS Related Complex(ARC) or Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV);Pregnancy9. pregnancy or childbirth except wherean unexpected and unforeseen medicalcomplication has arisen in respect of yourpregnancy up to the end of the 26th weekof your pregnancy. The 26th week of yourpregnancy is calculated based on yourestimated date of delivery as confirmed inwriting by your obstetrician;Personal belongings, covered products andbusiness items10. you leaving your personal belongings,covered products or business itemsunattended:11.(a)in a public place, regardless of whetherthey are left behind, forgotten ormisplaced;(b)in a motor vehicle unless stored in theboot and forced entry is gained;(c)in a motor vehicle overnight (even if inthe boot);(d)with a person who steals or deliberatelydamages them;jewellery, watches, cameras, mobile phones,portable electrical items, laptop computers orcash or equivalent unattended at any time orleft in a motor vehicle (even if in the boot) orbaggage;16

12.securities, stamps, manuscripts, books ofaccount, works of art and antiques;13.sporting equipment whilst in use;14.any items intended for resale;15.items that are brittle or fragile unless the lossor damage is caused by thieves or fire or anaccident involving the conveyance in whichyou are travelling (however photographic orvideo equipment, spectacles, contact lenses,binoculars and laptop computers are notconsidered brittle or fragile items);16.your failure to comply with the recommendedsecurity guidelines for the use of cheques,travellers cheques, credit cards or postal ormoney orders;17.items you post or otherwise pay to betransported and which are not part of youraccompanying baggage;18.electrical or mechanical fault or breakdownunless covered under Extended WarrantyInsurance;19.confiscation or destruction by customs or anyother authorities or officials;20. disappearance of any items in circumstancesthat cannot be explained to our reasonablesatisfaction;Activities21. any dangerous activities;22. participation in any activities involving amotorcycle or quad-bike during the journeyunless it involves you driving a hiredmotorcycle with an engine capacity of 200ccor less and you hold a current motorcyclelicence;23. deliberate acts or illegal or criminal acts byyou, your spouse, your dependent childrenor any other person acting with your consentor under your direction;24. your participation as a crew member or pilotof any conveyance;17

Disruptions25. you or your travel companion not wantingto continue your journey or cancelling orcutting it short (unless your claim is withinthe “Unexpected Cancellation of TravelArrangements and Other UnexpectedExpenses” cover);26. you or your travel companion’s financial,business or contractual situation,commitments or obligations;27. your or your travel companion’semployment or work (whether paid orunpaid or voluntary) either in Australiaor overseas including not being able totake leave or cancellation by your or yourtravel companion’s employer of authorisedprearranged leave except if the personwhose leave has been cancelled is a full timeemployee of the police, fire, ambulance,defence or emergency services;28. your or your travel companion’s failure toobtain a visa, a passport or a passport with arequired minimum remaining validity;29. any interference with your travel plans byany government, government regulationor prohibition or intervention or officialauthority;30. bookings made with or via any unlicensedtravel services provider;31.the inability, failure or refusal of any travelservices provider to provide services,facilities or accommodation, or to commenceor complete any or any part of a tour, travel,journey, accommodation or conference forthe following reasons:(a)lack of numbers required to commenceor complete any or any part of a tour,travel, journey, accommodation orconference;(b)negligence of the travel servicesprovider; or(c)insolvency or financial collapse of anunlicensed travel services provider orany company, organisation or personwith whom they deal.18

General32. changes in currency rates;33. your failure to take reasonable care;34. any epidemic/pandemic;35. any act of terrorism;36. war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities(whether war is declared or not), civil war, riot,rebellion, revolution, insurrection, militarycoup or overthrow/attempted overthrow of agovernment/military power;37.damage or loss arising from wear and tear,deterioration, atmospheric or climaticcondition, flood, mould, fungus, mildew,animals (including but not limited to insects,rodents and vermin), inherent defect in anyitem, or any process of servicing, repairing,restoring, altering or cleaning (includingbut not limited to washing, ironing and drycleaning);38. consequential loss or damage, punitive,exemplary or aggravated damages or any fineor penalty;39. radioactivity or the use, existence or escapeof any nuclear fuel, nuclear material ornuclear waste; or40. the dispersal, application or release ofpathogenic or poisonous biological orchemical materials.International Travel InsuranceSummary of coverInternational Travel Insurance covers you whentravelling overseas for: medical expenses if you become sick orinjured; access to Allianz Global Assistance emergencyservices; loss or theft of personal belongings andbusiness items; cancellation of travel arrangements due tounexpected circumstances; costs of resuming travel after the unexpecteddeath of a relative;19

costs of getting you to a special event if yourjourney is unexpectedly interrupted; reimbursement of a rental vehicle excess ordeductible; reimbursement of your additional meal andaccommodation expenses due to an unexpecteddelay of your conveyance; your funeral expenses; your accidental death; your legal liability; and loss of income as a result of injuries sustainedon a journey.Details of the cover follow. Please also see page 30for the cover limits for this section.Who is eligible?Platinum Low Rate MasterCard and PlatinumMasterCard cardholders are eligible for thisInternational Travel Insurance, when prior toleaving Australia their overseas travel ticket (butnot taxes or airport or travel agent charges) wasobtained by one of the following methods: the cost of the overseas travel ticket wascharged to the cardholder's card; or as a member of the Card Services QantasRewards Program, the cardholder redeemedtheir frequent flyer points in exchange for theoverseas travel ticket. Provided that withinthe 12 months prior to the redemption, thecardholder had transferred at least 15,000points to their Qantas Frequent Flyer account;or the overseas travel ticket was obtained bythe cardholder under the Card Services TakeFlight Program.Please note that no cover is provided underthe International Travel Insurance Policy whenthe overseas travel tickets have been fully orpartially obtained by redeeming points or rewardsfrom schemes other than as outlined above.If the cardholder is eligible for this insurance, thecardholder’s spouse and/or dependent childrenare also eligible for this International Travel20

Insurance when prior to leaving Australia theiroverseas travel tickets (but not taxes or airportor travel agent charges) were obtained by one of themethods described above and they are travellingwith the cardholder for their entire journey.The cover is available for a period of: 31 days or less for cardholders with a one-wayoverseas travel ticket; or 90 consecutive days or less for Platinum LowRate MasterCard cardholders with returnoverseas travel tickets; or 180 consecutive days or less for PlatinumMasterCard cardholders with return overseastravel tickets.Pre-existing medical conditionsBefore going overseas, you can apply for cover foryour pre-existing medical condition by phoningAllianz Global Assistance on 1800 072 791.Our team of medical professionals will assessyour condition. If we decide to cover your preexisting medical condition, you will need topay an administration fee and Allianz GlobalAssistance will send you a letter confirming thatyour pre-existing medical condition is coveredfor the journey.
