I want to commend you for yourperseverance and dedication which made today possible,and to say a special thank you to all those who supportedyou along the way.Since our earliest days as an institution, Sask Polytech has beenstudent-focused. We are committed to preparing graduateswith the skills necessary to contribute positively to ourprovince and to our country.We are characterized by an adventurous spirit, opennessand willingness to embrace bold initiatives. HONORARY DIPLOMA RECIPIENTLorne Wright began a career in the family business in 1981,working in the field on construction projects. Although a newgraduate from the University of Saskatchewan’s College ofCommerce, he soon recognized the need for a more practicalside to his education and enrolled in the local carpentryapprentice program. He continued to work at variousaspects in his role on site, eventually working up to asupervisory role, while completing his Apprenticeship withSaskatchewan Polytechnic (at that time known as SIAST).Shortly after earning Journeyman Carpenter status in 1985,Lorne took the hands-on field knowledge he had acquiredinto the office. Guided by his late father, Cliff Wright, Lornequickly developed the skills essential to leading a successfulconstruction company. Through estimating, projectmanagement, and all aspects of general contracting; thecombination of business and carpentry education proved tobe a complimentary formula for Lorne’s career goals.Lorne has enjoyed engaging with his peers in many industryassociations, including the local and provincial GeneralContractors Associations and the Saskatoon ConstructionAssociation. Wright Construction currently employees morethan 200 individuals and proudly completes constructionprojects for its clients across all of the prairie provinces.

ACADEMIC DRESSAlong with the academic tradition of black gowns, Saskatchewan Polytechnic grads wear v-stolesin the colour selected for each school. Thisaward recognizes a student who has inspiredand encouraged others to make positivechanges. Nominated by Sask Polytech faculty,the student’s outstanding work demonstratesbenefits to the campus community and others.STUDENT INNOVATION AWARDA Student Innovation Award is presented eachyear to a Saskatchewan Polytechnic studentor team.
