A favorite activity for fast/slow had been thefolk song Willoughby in which they get to make up their own moves to dance.First grade- has also learned about tempo., defining largo as very slow and presto asvery fast. They thoroughly enjoy singing and dancing to the song “Presto/Largo” aswell as playing rhythm sticks along with “In the Hall of the Mountain King”Second Grade- is reviewing rhythms such as quarter notes (ta), eighth notes (ti-ti)and learning quarter rest (no sound). Favorite songs have been Icka Backa, HotCross Buns, Naughty Kitty Cat and Bow Wow Wow.Third Grade- performed on rhythm instruments to create the musical form knownas Rondo. P.E. NewsThe kindergarden classes have been working really hard on their catching and throwingskills. We have been practicing with different size balls and they have really improved. Weare introducing kicking as well and they are going to start kicking different types ofequipment towards targets. We are going to introduce skipping, hopping, galloping and many more activities for them to work on at home. The first and second graders have been working on their soccer and basketballskills. We have introduced the rules to them and look forward to playing more ofthese games with them. We have also introduced our fitness equipment tothem and they did an excellent job and are learning the importance of fitnessand why it is so important to stay fit and have a healthy lifestyle. The third and fourth graders finished their soccer unit and are now on theirbasketball unit. They have learned the correct way to dribble, pass andshoot a basketball. They were all also introduced to fitness testing and wewere very proud of all of them for doing such a good job with the testing. For the fitness testing, every third and fourth grader does 1/2 mile in the gym(10 laps), asmany chin ups as they can do and as many sit ups as they can do in one minute. We log allof their scores and will be sending a report home with the first report card. Our next unit willbe floor hockey and they will learn the rules and how to play the game.Woodview Families,Last year, as a school, we raised over 425 pounds of candy afterHalloween and sent it to the troops overseas. We did this byhaving the students bring in all of their unwanted Halloweencandy. Our goal this year is going to be 500 pounds ofcandy. Please have your child bring in all of the candy they donot want to eat or have in the house to Mr. Feldman. As long asthe candy is wrapped we will send it. We will sort the candy andsend it to the troops overseas as soon as we get all thecandy. Thank you so much.

Preparing Children for Trick orTreatingDressing up to go trick or treating is very exciting for children and it creates lastingmemories for both children and parents. Help children prepare for trick or treatingwith these five strategies.1. Select a Costume – Help children select a costume that fits properly and is safe. Children maybe uncomfortable with anything on their face especially make up. Some children may not like masksbecause of sensory issues or limited vision. Keep these factors in mind when selecting an outfit. Forchildren who have difficulties with masks, holding a mask rather than wearing it or not using one at allmay make the evening more enjoyable.2. Set Costume Guidelines – Children often want to wear their costume other times than trick ortreating. Let them know if/when they can wear it besides trick or treating. Be sure to tell them thisbefore they buy the costume and after it is purchased. Explain why they can wear the costume onlyat certain times. For example, “You can put it on in the evening for a few minutes to see how youlook, but you can only wear it for a little while so it doesn’t get dirty before Halloween.”3. Practice Going to People’s Doors – Role play going to someone’s door, saying “Trick or treat,” holding a bag out, and saying “Thank you.” Remind childrento be polite, wait their turn, and take only one piece of candy when they are asked toselect something. It is tempting to rush to a door and take a handful of things whenoffered a basket or bowl to select from so multiple opportunities for review areimportant. Be sure to practice other things that may happen such as someone notbeing home or someone complimenting them on their costume.4. Establish Guidelines in Advance – Prepare children for factors such as: Whattime trick or treating starts and ends; How they know when it ends; Where they cantrick or treat (e.g. only houses with lights on, only people the child knows, onlyFrom thehomes in a four block radius, etc.); and What the rules are such as staying with astory, Halloweensibling or parent.
