WELCOME

Dear supporters,Ten years ago, we started the Education Revolution. Weset out to prove that quality education can be accessibleand affordable for every qualified student. As I reflect onthe tenth anniversary of University of the People, I amenormously proud of and humbled by all that we haveachieved together.UoPeople has over 20,000 students currently enrolled, hailing from upwards of 200 countries and territories. Many of our students are refugees, undocumented, orhomeless, or face various financial, geographic, political, cultural, or personal barriers to their studies. We haveconferred over 800 degrees to exceptional graduates whohave gone on to work for organizations such as Apple,Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, and the World Bank, amongothers. We have expanded our degree and programofferings, from Business Administration and ComputerScience, to Health Science and Education. We havelaunched partnerships with world-renowned institutions: NYU, UC Berkeley, University of Edinburgh, and theInternational Baccalaureate. However, our work has only just begun. In our tenth year,we are taking on incredibly ambitious projects. To honor our graduates, who represent over 100countries, UoPeople held our first ever virtual commencement ceremony in April 2019 to reimagine graduation inthe 21st Century. To ensure we can provide for all futuregenerations of UoPeople students, we have launched aHere’s to the Education Revolution,SHAI RESHEFPresident, University of the Peoplecampaign among our students and graduates to “Pay ItForward” for their peers. To build on the University’scareer advising and networking opportunities forUoPeople students and graduates, we are launching anenhanced Career Service Center. To further connect theUniversity’s network of students, alumni, volunteers, and supporters, we are launching UoPeople@ Communities to build a global movement for local UoPeopletouchpoints. This year we are also launching our largest undertakingyet: a University run by refugees, for refugees. UoPeoplein Arabic will address the significant need for educationfor those displaced by the global refugee crisis. For ourroughly 1,000 enrolled refugees and internally displacedpersons, our high-quality, ultra-low-cost online educationhas been a life-changing opportunity. However, mostMiddle Eastern refugees cannot study in any languageother than Arabic. It is a natural extension of UoPeople’smission to develop degree programs in Arabic to serve theentire population of Arabic-speakers who have not yetbeen reached. In the years to come, we will not stop growing andinnovating until every single person on earth, regardlessof background or circumstance, has the opportunity topursue higher education. This would have neverhappened without all of you and your support. From thebottom of my heart, thank you for all you have done andcontinue to do for the University.
