A MESSAGE FROMTHE SUPERINTENDENTThere is so much to be said about the MillerPlace High School Class of 2019. Whileour end-of-year award ceremonies and highschool graduation ceremony provided uswith opportunities to publicly celebrate ourgraduating seniors, it is difficult to fullyquantify the impact the Class of 2019 hashad on our District. Academically, the Classof 2019 comprised National Merit scholars,AP Scholars with Distinction, FBLA competition finalists, engineering and STEM students who studied at prestigiousuniversities, and so much more. Altruistically, this cohort ofPanthers fought cancer, ALS and other diseases; raised large sumsof money for charitable causes; and fostered an environment ofkindness and inclusiveness in the District. It’s bittersweet to seethese Panthers leave, but I am fully confident we will soon behearing about new accolades and accomplishments they will beachieving in college and in their careers. To the newest alumni ofthe District: enjoy your summer and get ready for the next step inyour lives. For those of us who will be heading back to the Miller PlaceSchool District in the fall or the incoming kindergartners andClass of 2032, I hope you too are enjoying the time off. Thesummer is a time for fun, family and getting outside. It is alsoa time for all our returning students to keep their brains activewith summer reading and other activities that stimulate thoughtand contemplation. Even simple things like doing puzzles orscheduling family game nights are great for mind engagement.Studies continue to show that students who engage in mindstimulating activities over the summer do better when returningto school in the fall. Enjoy the rest of the summer months, and Ican’t wait to see all of you in September as we begin the 20192020 school year!Dr. Marianne F. AROUND OUR SCHOOLS: END-OF-YEAR EDITION!ANDREW MULLER PRIMARY SCHOOLThe 2018-2019 class of second graders at Andrew Muller Primary School(AMPS) have moved up to Laddie A. Decker Sound Beach School, but notbefore they had the chance for one more day of fun with the entire AMPSstudent body! Field Day, an annual tradition reimagined by the physicaleducation teachers this year, is a round-robin event featuring each grade levelmoving through a variety of hilarious relay races and games. These games werea ton of fun. Students participated on teams and individually, depending on theevent. The day ended with a competition that is sure to become a new AMPStradition: The staff partook in a tug of war that had teachers pitted against eachother in a competition of strength. It was difficult to tell who had more fun—thestudents watching or teachers competing!LADDIE A. DECKER SOUND BEACH SCHOOLAt the end of every year, cohorts of students move up to the next grade level. Forthe fifth graders at Laddie A. Decker Sound Beach School (LADSBS), it’s anespecially exciting time of year because they move up to North Country RoadMiddle School (NCRMS)! The LADSBS community came together to celebratethe momentous occasion at the school’s Moving Up Ceremony. Joined by family, friends and District Administration, the ceremony highlighted three years ofachievements from these talented students. The celebration also focused on thefuture. Wearing t-shirts that said “Future Leaders”, each student was charged withbeing role-models and drivers of their destinies. Moving up to middle school willbe a big adjustment but we know this cohort of students is ready to take NorthCountry Road Middle School by storm!NORTH COUNTRY ROAD MIDDLE SCHOOLMoving up to high school is a significant milestone, and at NorthCountry Road Middle School, our students and faculty ensure thatour eighth graders receive a proper send-off. The end of the year is fullof many celebrations for the eighth grade, and the Student Governmenttakes an active role in planning and organizing these events. One of themost anticipated events is the annual Moving Up Dance. On June 14,the cafeteria was transformed into Hollywood as the students selectedthe Oscars to be the theme of their Moving Up Dance. With the helpof the Parent Committee, the Red Carpet was rolled out and studentswere interviewed by “Ryan Seacrest” (MPHS senior Joseph Maronski)to provide authenticity to the night. The paparazzi was out in full forceas each student had the chance to take red carpet photos. The eighthgraders enjoyed the music and danced the night away in what was anevening they won’t soon forget!MILLER PLACE UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT7 Memorial Drive, Miller Place, NY 11764Board of Education: Johanna Testa, President Richard Panico, Vice PresidentNoelle Dunlop, Trustee Keith Frank, Trustee Lisa Reitan, Trustee Andrew Friedman, Student RepresentativeSuperintendent of Schools: Dr. Marianne F.
