VDM Metals3Tough demandsare our businessDuring the past eight decades, VDM Metals has developed into aworld market leader for high-performing metallic materials coveringthe widest product and service portfolio in the industry. The qualityof our products and services is based on our integrated productionchain in Germany and the United States and a sales network thatspans the globe servicing the most demanding industries backed bya strong R&D and Application Engineering force.VDM Metals produces high-performance alloys for the use inextreme conditions – high temperatures, icy waters, soaringheights and deep underground. Our materials are made to last, resisting heavy mechanical, thermal and chemical stresses, sometimes all three simultaneously. In many key technologiesalloys from VDM Metals are indispensable for the industrial-scale implementation and safe control of mission-criticalprocesses in hot or corrosive environments.Strategic investments, mergers and acquisitions have madethe company one of the world leaders in the productionof nickel and cobalt alloys, zirconium and special stainlesssteels. Our production sites can draw on extensive metallur gical know-how and long standing experience in the pro duction of long and flat p roducts as well as welding fillermetals.Focus on safety and reliabilityIn oil and gas engineering, safe and reliable operations arealways the top priorities. Corrosive media, temperature differences and mechanical loads place enormous demandson all components. General corrosion resistance in a widerange of media, both oxidizing and reducing, resistance tostress-corrosion cracking, pitting and crevice corrosion arejust some of the features our materials can offer.Quality controlMaterials made by VDM Metals pass through especially stringent quality control. We perform extensive testing on eachsingle product according to the respective customer speci fications which define physical and mechanical propertiesas well as corrosion behavior, thus contributing to safe andreliable operations. At a very early stage, we established quality assurance as theoverriding principle and developed it into a quality management system with in-process checks and inspections. Thisis closely linked to our continual improvement processes foroptimizing all operating procedures. We are where you need us to beA globally operating sales organization, working in close cooperation with strategically situated service centers, ensuresoptimum customer proximity and a significant footprint in allkey regions and markets. The result of our efforts: efficient processes as well as maximum purity, homogeneity, reproducibility and optimized processing characteristics of our products. Thus, our offering isnothing less than premium materials in any form needed aswell as first class services, available anywhere in the world, right on time.

VDM Metals5Materials forhighly demandingapplicationsVDM Metals is offering high-performance alloys in the productforms plate, sheet, strip, rod, bar and wire. All products exhibit excellent fabricability into tubes, pipes, fittings, flanges, tooling etc.which are subsequently manufactured into the different piecesof equipment required by the oil and gas industry in upstream andmidstream applications.Crude oil and natural gas are organicmixtures with widely varying compositions, depending on their deposits. The standard components of crude oilinclude hydrocarbons and sulphur, oxy gen and nitrogen compounds. Naturalgas consists of methane, ethane, propane and other secondary constituentssuch as sulphuric acid. Resistance topitting, crevice and stress corrosionis therefore one of the most importantcharacteristics of materials used in theproduction of oil and gas. For more thanthree d ecades, VDM Metals has beena reliable supplier of high-value nickelalloys to the oil and gas industry. The worldwide supply of energy will continue to rely on petroleum and naturalgas extraction for a long time to come.To ensure the long-term availability ofthese fossil fuel reserves, extractionrates at existing oil and gas wells arecontinually being improved throughdeep drilling and the use of secondaryand tertiary extraction methods. The efforts to explore new deposits and theirdevelopment have been intensified. Thesearch for new deposits is becomingincreasingly difficult, with future oil andgas production requiring ever more advanced extraction techniques. However, nickel alloys and special stainless steelsproduced by VDM Metals will continue tocontribute to keeping the world suppliedwith fuel and energy.Upstream applicationsIn the upstream segment these m aterialsare used as pressure tubes in umbilicals,in flowlines, riser pipes, valve systems, wire lines and subsea bandings.Rods and bars (forged, rolled and drawn),produced for example from VDM Alloy718, VDM Alloy 625 and VDM AlloyK-500, are used in many different areas, including the manufacturing of hangerand packer systems, completion toolsand pump shafts.Midstream applicationsHot or cold rolled plate or sheet metaland strip in coils produced by VDM Metalsare used in the manufacture of long-seamwelded pipes, as well as flanges and f it tings. Sheet and plate are available inlengths up to 39 ft (12 m), depending onthe thickness and width of the plate aswell as alloy type. Additionally, we aresupplying forged billets used as prematerials for seamless tubes and pipes inthe casing and tubing segment, as wellas for sub-sea control units.Welding consumablesWeld cladding with strip and wire electrodes has a firm place in the oil andgas industry as well as in the construction of chemical apparatus and plants. As only the surfaces are susceptible tocorrosion, the weld cladding of corrosion resistant materials onto unalloyedor low-alloy steels helps reduce material costs. Many VDM materials suchas VDM Alloy 625 or VDM Alloy 825are suitable for weld cladding (deposition welding), e. g. to protect weldedpipes made of a low-alloy base materialagainst corrosion. In general, welding techniques play a vital role in the research and developmentwork at VDM Metals, given its positionas manufacturer of special products forcorrosion protection and also as an expert for all types of joint welding. We areoffering wires on standardized spools, special spools or in various barrel typesas well as strips in coils and rods inquivers. Our welding wires are suitablefor automatic and semi-automatic gasshielded processes and submerged arcwelding.
