The Graduate School 5The Graduate SchoolGraduate School AdministrationThe DirectorThe Director of the Graduate School is responsible for executingpolicies and regulations governing graduate study.The University Graduate CommitteeThe University Graduate Committee consists of two membersselected from the graduate faculty of each of the four colleges, fourgraduate students, a member of the professional library staff, theregistrar, and the director of the Graduate School or designeeserving as chairperson. The committee recommends policies andregulations pertaining to graduate study; advises the Director of theGraduate School regarding the execution of these policies; andapproves and reviews graduate programs, faculty and courses.AdvisorsWhen the graduate student is admitted to a program, an advisor fromthe graduate faculty is appointed. The advisor counsels the studentin preparing and completing the program of graduate study. Thestudent should consult the advisor concerning any problems that mayarise in connection with his or her work.Student ResponsibilitiesIt is the responsibility of the graduate student to become thoroughlyinformed about the general regulations for graduate study and thespecific program of study requirements as stated in this catalog. Thegraduate student is expected to meet regularly with the assignedadvisor to plan the graduate program. If there is a question about theassigned advisor, the student should contact the Graduate School at606-783-2039.The graduate student is also responsible for completing all programrequirements. A plea of ignorance of the rules in requesting a waiverof the general regulations or program requirements, as stated in thiscatalog, will not be accepted.
