www.broadview-il.govSummer 2022Dear Neighbor,Residents are out walking, biking, and picnicking. Neighbors areswapping stories over their fences.Children are playing in their yards.Gardens are blooming. Summer hasarrived in Broadview. If we are on the cusp of summer, thatmeans the Village of Broadview hasMayor Katrina Thompsonalready adopted its new budget, which runs from May 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023.The Village Board of Trustees approved the Fiscal YearAnnual Budget on April 28, 2022. The new budget is a fiscallyresponsible plan that will enable the Village to provide thecommunity with high quality municipal services, such aspolice and fire protection, reliable and clean water, as wellhost community events, such as Juneteenth.Still, Broadview faces financial challenges, including:stabilizing the sales tax base over the long-term , increasingpension obligations, rising health care costs, funding forvehicles, equipment, and building capital improvements. The Village Board and I remain committed to conservativespending while continuing to invest in our community andproviding superior services to our residents. For example, Broadview’s investments this year will includethe following: Over 469K in (20th, 21st and 22nd between Rooseveltand Fillmore) Over 4.3M in water main improvements and alleysfrom 17th to 25th Avenue in the commercial district Over 334K in street repairs 16th Street PavingImprovementsThese investments in Broadview’s infrastructure will enhancethe quality of life for all residents and meet the needs of ourlocal businesses.Still, a community’s quality of life cannot be measured bycement, bricks, and asphalt alone. A community must alsoinvest in culture as well as concrete.Broadview’s cultural investment includes, for example, hosting our now annual Juneteenth celebration. Thecelebration kicked off on June 2, 2022 when Village raised theJuneteenth flag at the municipal building. The flag is rich in symbolism.Broadview’scultural investmentincludes, example, ourcolorsnow annualFirst, the Juneteenthflagusesfortheexacthostingsameas Juneteenththecelebration. From the Desk ofSouth Central Capital Group, LLCThe Finance Department is pleased to report that the Village had another solid year financially. The Village successfully weatheredCOVID-19 pandemic by carefully monitoring expenditures and supplemented decreased sales and other use tax revenues with variousState and Federal Grants. As we look forward to the future, we are happy to announce the FY23 Budget was presented to the VillageBoard and residents, and it was approved at the April Board meeting. The FY23 Budget continues to be a fiscally responsible financial plan that will enable the Village to continue to provide the communitywith high quality municipal services and special events that enhance the quality of life of all residents and meet the needs of thebusiness community. There are a number of internal and external factors taken into account when compiling the municipal budget. Some of the issues the Village faces include long-term stability of the sales tax base, increasing pension obligations, rising health carecosts, and the funding for vehicle, equipment, and building capital improvements. We will continue to evaluate our operations tomake certain we are providing services to our citizens and corporate business partners as efficiently and economically as possible. The FY20 Audit has been completed and was presented to the Village Board and the residents. The FY21 Audit is underway, and weexpect that it will be completed by the end of the 1st Quarter of FY23. The Finance Department will continue to focus on the Mayor’sdirective of ensuring that we provide the residents with financial transparency.#BroadviewStrongVillage PresidentKatrina R.
