Message from the PresidentWelcome to Olympic College!Greetings Olympic College Rangers,Welcome to Olympic College! Whether you’re looking to earn a certificate, associate degree, transfer to a university, or earn a bachelor’s degree righthere at Olympic College, we’re here to help you achieve your goals anddreams. This past year presented challenges that none of us could have foreseen withthe global spread of COVID-19. Olympic College, like colleges and universitiesthroughout the state and across the country, was required to temporarilymove all instruction and services online. With more than 2,000 courses inour catalog and 7,000 students quarterly, moving everything online was aHerculean task – but we did it.While preparing for our first ever exclusively online quarter, Olympic Collegealso launched a new student management system – Community andTechnical College Link (ctcLink). ctcLink replaces an internally built systemthat was launched in 1984. It provides a modern portal where studentscan choose a program of study, register for classes, pay tuition, trackyour progress, apply for graduation and much more. It was yet anotherunforeseen challenge for the college and our students to overcome. As isoften the case, you see great innovation during times of crises, and thiswas no exception.Across the college, on all three campuses and the Puget Sound NavalShipyard (PSNS), every employee and student rose to the challenge, and I consider them all heroes. The dedication to students and to fellowemployees was inspirational, heartwarming, and fills one with pride.Departments across the college launched virtual lobbies, where studentscould drop in and meet with staff “in-person.” Live chats and virtual townhalls were held where students and employees alike could receive answersto pressing questions. And courses we thought could never be offeredonline, like nursing and chemistry, were available to start the quarter.Marty Cavalluzzi, Ph.D.President, Olympic College2020-2021Board of TrusteesHarriette BryantChair of the BoardTom EckmannCandelario GonzalezCheryl MillerAs we gradually return to normalcy, which includes resuming in-personinstruction and services, the college continues to focus on its long-termgoals and initiatives. In 2017, the college joined Achieving the Dream (ATD) – a transformative nationalnetwork of more than 270 colleges committed to helping students achieve their college and career goals. As part of ATD, the college is working to implement Guided Pathways – a research-based initiative that aimsto close equity gaps and improve graduation rates by grouping the college’s courses into programs of studythat give students clear pathways to their chosen major or career. It’s been a difficult year, but the students and employees of Olympic College have risen to meet everychallenge we’ve faced, and we will continue to meet new challenges as they arise. We’re here to help youachieve your goals, through high-quality in-person and online learning opportunities!Together, We are OC!Marty Cavalluzzi, Ph.D.President, Olympic College
