"First become conscious of your consciousness. And in that verybecoming, in that very silence - when you are only conscious ofyour consciousness and not of any other content - no thought,no desire, no dream - you are just conscious of your beingconscious, the mirror is reflecting itself and nothing else. inthat moment, something IMMENSELY miraculous happens. Youbecome aware of the divine, you become aware of the essentialcore of your being."OshoThe Guest, Chapter # 15-"All techniques can be helpful but they are not exactlymeditation, they are just a groping in the dark. Suddenly oneday, doing something, you will become a witness. Doing ameditation like the dynamic, or KUNDALINI or whirling, suddenly one day the meditation will go on but you will not beidentified. You will sit silently behind, you will watch it - thatday meditation has happened; that day technique is no more ahindrance, no more a help. You can enjoy it if you like, like anexercise, it gives a certain vitality, but there is no need now the real meditation has happened.2

Meditation is witnessing. To meditatemeans to become a witness. Meditationis not a technique at all. This will be veryconfusing to you because I go on givingyou techniques. In the ultimate standing, awareness. But you need techniquesbecause that final understanding is veryfar away from you; deep hidden in you,but still very far away from you. Rightthis moment you can attain it, but you will not attain it, becauseyour moment goes on, your mind goes on. THIS very moment itis possible and yet impossible. Techniques will bridge the gap, they are just to bridge the gap.So in the beginning techniques are meditations; in the end youwill laugh, techniques are not meditation. Meditation is a totallydifferent quality of being, it has nothing to do with anything. But it will happen only in the end; don't thinkit has happened in the beginning, otherwisethe gap will not be bridged."-Osho -Come Follow To You Vol.3, Chapter # 8Meditation means pure awareness, a mirrorlike quality of consciousness. Being utterlypresent in the here and now, fully aware, unclouded by the dust of thoughts, emotions, desires, past or future; just being! Meditationis the state of pure witnessing consciousnessto which different mystics have refered to as'Drashta', 'Sakshi' or 'Bodh' - our true self. There are hundereds of methods/techniques tofinallly reach this state of pure awareness. Most of the meditation techniques given by different mystics around theworld are in fact just preparations for meditation, many doorways to bein this pure witnessing consciousness. We must understand that these'techniques' are important but they are not meditation itself.Meditation is beyond techniques, beyond doing; it is a state of relaxedawareness. However, once we have experienced the state ofmeditation, any action that arises out of this state of pure awarenessbecomes meditative. This sort of action is called 'effortless effort' by theZen masters or 'Karma Yoga' by eastern mystics.3

Meditation may be divided in two parts for a better understanding'Dhyan' and 'Samadhi'. Dhyan is the beginning and a doorway to Samadhi.Dhyan is awareness, Samadhi is the merger with the divine. Dhyan isthe journey of duality, the flowering of Samadhi is non duality oneness with the divine.Dhyan is the path of witnessing, experiencing that our true self isseparate from the body, mind, heart; witnessing the object andthe subject as separate - dispellingall darkness. Samadhi begins withsubjectiveawarenessandculminates in realization of ourdivine self, the all permeatinggodliness - within and without. This is the state in which the'Rishis' in the east declared 'Aham Brahmasmi', the state in which sufimystic Mansur declared 'Ana'l Haq', the state in which Jesus says, 'Iand my Father are one'. This state is called 'Sambodhi', enlightenment, divine realization - the home coming. And yet, this is just the beginning."In fact there are one hundred and twelvemethods of meditation; I have gonethrough all those methods - and notintellectually. It took me years to gothrough each method and to find out itsvery essence, and after going through onehundred and twelve methods I wasamazed that the essence is witnessing. The methods' non-essentials are different, but the center of each method iswitnessing. Hence I can say to you, thereis only one meditation in the whole worldand that is the art of witnessing. It will do everything - thewhole transformation of your being. It will open the doors ofsatyam, shivam, sundram: the truth, the godliness and thebeauty of it all."– OSHO – Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Chapter # 224

Dynamic MeditationDynamic Meditation lasts one hour and is in five stages. It can be done alone, andwill be even more powerful if it is done with others. It is an individual experienceso you should remain oblivious of others around you and keep your eyes closedthroughout, preferably using a blindfold. It is best to have an empty stomach andwear loose, comfortable clothing.“This is a meditation in which you have to be continuously alert, conscious, aware, whatsoever you do. Remain a witness. Don’t get lost. While you are breathing youcan forget. You can become one with the breathing so much that you can forgetthe witness. But then you miss the point.“Breathe as fast as possible, as deep as possible; bring your total energy to it butstill remain a witness. Observe what is happening as if you are just a spectator, asif the whole thing is happening to somebody else, as if the whole thing ishappening in the body and the consciousness is just centered and looking.“This witnessing has to be carried in all the three steps. And when everythingstops, and in the fourth step you have become completely inactive, frozen, thenthis alertness will come to its peak.” OshoFirst Stage: 10 minutesBreathe chaotically through the nose, concentratingalways on exhalation. The body will take care of theinhalation. The breath should move deeply into thelungs. Be as fast as you can in your breathing, makingsure the breathing stays deep. Do this as fast and ashard as you possibly can – and then a little harder, untilyou literally become the breathing. Use your natural body movementsto help you to build up your energy. Feel it building up, but don’t let goduring the first stage.Second Stage: 10 minutesExplode! Express everything that needs to be thrownout. Go totally mad. Scream, shout, cry, jump, shake, dance, sing, laugh; throw yourself around. Hold nothingback; keep your whole body moving. A little acting oftenhelps to get you started. Never allow your mind to interfere with whatis happening. Be total, be whole hearted.5

Third Stage: 10 minutesWith raised arms, jump up and down shouting themantra, “Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!” as deeply as possible. Eachtime you land, on the flats of your feet, let the soundhammer deep into the sex center. Give all you have;exhaust yourself totally.Fourth Stage: 15 minutesStop! Freeze wherever you are, in whatever positionyou find yourself. Don’t arrange the body in any way. Acough, a movement – anything will dissipate theenergy flow and the effort will be lost. Be a witness toeverything that is happening to you.Fifth Stage: 15 minutesCelebrate through dance, expressing your gratitudetowards the whole. Carry your happiness with youthroughout the day.If where you meditate prevents you from making a noise, you can dothis silent alternative: Rather than throwing out the sounds, let thecatharsis in the second stage take place entirely through bodilymovements. In the third stage, the sound “Hoo” can be hammeredsilently inside.6

Kundalini MeditationThis meditation lasts for one hour and has four stages, three withmusic, and the last without.Kundalini acts like an energetic shower, softly shaking you free of yourday and leaving you refreshed and mellow.First Stage: 15 minutesBe loose and let your whole body shake, feeling theenergies moving up from your feet. Let go everywhereand become the shaking. Your eyes may be open orclosed.“Allow the shaking; don’t do it. Stand silently, feel it coming and whenyour body starts trembling, help it but don’t do it. Enjoy it, feel blissfulabout it, allow it, receive it, welcome it, but don’t will it.“If you force it will become an exercise, a bodily, physical exercise. Then the shaking will be there but just on the surface; it will notpenetrate you. You will remain solid, stone-like, rock-like within. Youwill remain the manipulator, the doer, and the body will just befollowing. The body is not the question – you are the question.“When I say shake, I mean your solidity, your rock-like being shouldshake to the very foundations so that it becomes liquid, fluid, melts, flows. And when the rock-like being becomes liquid, your body willfollow. Then there is no shake, only shaking. Then nobody is doing it; itis simply happening. Then the doer is not.” OshoSecond Stage: 15 minutesDance, any way you feel, letting the whole body moveas it wishes. Again, your eyes can be open or closedThird Stage: 15 minutesClose your eyes and be still, sitting or standing, observing, witnessing, whatever is happening inside andoutFourth Stage: 15 minutesKeeping your eyes closed, lie down and be still.7

Nataraj MeditationThis is a 65 minute dancing meditation in three stages, with specificallycreated music.Disappearing in the dance, then relaxing into silence and stillness, isthe route inside for this method.“Forget the dancer, the center of the ego; become the dance. That isthe meditation. Dance so deeply that you forget completely that ‘you’are dancing and begin to feel that you are the dance. The division mustdisappear; then it becomes a meditation. If the division is there, then it is an exercise: good, healthy, but itcannot be said to be spiritual. It is just a simple dance. Dance is goodin itself – as far as it goes it is good. After it, you will feel fresh, young. But it is not meditation yet. The dancer must go, until only the danceremains . Don’t stand aside, don’t be an observer. Participate! And be playful. Remember the word playful always – with me it is verybasic.” OshoFirst Stage: 40 minuteWith eyes closed, dance as if possessed. Let yourunconscious take over completely. Do not control yourmovements or witness what is happening. Just be totallyin the dance.Second Stage: 20 minutesKeeping your eyes closed, lie down immediately. Besilent and still.Third Stage: 5 minutesDance in celebration and enjoy.8

Nadabrahma MeditationNadabrahma meditation lasts for one hour and has three stages. It is asitting method, in which humming and hand movements create aninner balance, a harmony between mind and body. Suitable for anytime of the day, have an empty stomach and remain inactive for atleast fifteen minutes afterwards.“So in Nadabrahma, remember this: let the body and mind be totallytogether, but remember that you have to become a witness. Get out ofthem, easily, slowly, from the back door, with no fight, with nostruggle. They are drinking - you get out, and watch from theoutside.” OshoFirst Stage: 30 minutesSit in a relaxed position with eyes closed. With lipstogether, start humming, loud enough so that if you aredoing it with others, you can be heard by them. This willcreate a vibration in your body. You can visualize a hollow tube orvessel filled only with the vibrations of the humming. A point will comewhen the humming continues by itself and you become the listener. There is no special breathing, and you can alter the pitch, and moveyour body smoothly and slowly, if you feel to.Second Stage: 15 minutesThis stage is divided into two segments, of seven and ahalf minutes each. For the first part, move the hands, palms upwards, in an outward, circular motion. Startingat the navel, both hands move forward and then divide to make twolarge circles mirroring each other left and right. The movement shouldbe so slow that at times there will appear to be no movement at all.Feel that you are giving energy outwards to the universe. After sevenand a half minutes, the music will change and you turn your handspalm downwards, and start moving them in the opposite direction. Nowthe hands will come together towards the navel and divide outwardstowards the side of the body. Feel that you are taking energy in. As inthe first stage, don’t inhibit any soft, slow movements of the rest ofyour bodyThird Stage: 15 minutesSit absolutely quiet and still.9

Gourishankar MeditationThis technique, for the nighttime, consists of four stages of fifteenminutes each. The first two stages are preparation for the spontaneousLatihan of the third stage. If the breathing is done correctly in the firststage, the carbon dioxide formed in the bloodstream will make you feelas high as Gourishankar (Mt. Everest).First Stage: 15 minutesSit with closed eyes. Inhale deeply through the nose, filling the lungs. Hold the breath for as long as possible;then exhale gently through the mouth, and keep thelungs empty for as long as possible. Continue thisbreathing cycle throughout this stage.Second Stage: 15 minutesReturn to normal breathing and with a gentle gaze lookat a candle flame or a flashing blue light. Keep yourbody still.Third Stage: 15 minutesWith closed eyes, stand up and let your body be looseand receptive. Allow your body to move gently inwhichever way it wants. Don't do the moving, just allowit to happen gently and gracefully.Fourth Stage: 15 minutesLie down with closed eyes, silent and still.10
