Outreach and School RelationsEl Camino College AmbassadorsThe Office of Outreach and School Relations (OASR) is committed to serving prospectivestudents from a wide array of locations, education levels, socioeconomic strata, ethnicities,races, experiences, and beliefs. Through our office, knowledgeable Ambassadors conductcampus tours, highlight student services, and perform visits with prospective students,school sites, and the community. Our mission is to assist, oversee, provide direction to andfunction as a clearinghouse for all outreach activity involving El Camino College programsand services.The following pages include our Service Request Form. This form showcases the various services we offer throughout the school year. Outreach and School Relations: ServicesApplication WorkshopCampus ToursAn Outreach representative will provide a briefpresentation about the enrollment processbefore assisting students who would like to applyto El Camino College.Prospective students will have the opportunity toask questions, receive insight into studentcampus life, become familiar with variousresources available and explore the El CaminoCollege Campus. Tours must be scheduled AT LEAST two weeksin advanced. Individual Tours: Maximum of 10 students per party. Tours are only available Tuesday,Thursday and Friday starting from 9a.m., 10 a.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m. Group Tours Must have 11 or more students per party Campus tour dates and times varyaccording to availability. High school campuses must provide workingcomputers with Internet access. Minimum of 10 students in attendance. Students must have a personal email set up. Students must bring/know SSN (if they haveone) or tax identification number.Assessment TestingAn Outreach representative will proctor andmonitor on-and off-campus assessment tests. High school must provide working computerswith Internet access. Minimum of 20 students in attendance. Students must know their ECC student I.D.number. Please allot at least two hours for students tocomplete the assessment test. Assessment testing sessions will be scheduled for the months of November throughMarch.Information TableAn outreach representative will set up a tablewith literature about our services and beavailable to answer any questions students mayhave. Can be scheduled monthly, weekly, or bi-weekly at your school site.PresentationsInformation Session: Students will be given a briefoverview of services provided at El CaminoCollege, general community college system, andsteps to enroll in our college. A full informationsession can be 45 minutes long, but it can bealtered for various lengths of time.MyECC 101: Students will receive a presentation onhow to navigate MyECC, register for courses, payfees, etc. Please allot one hr and 30 minutes for thepresentation and Q&A.What to Expect Your First Semester: Thispresentation will help clarify any doubts, fears, andanswer any questions students will have their firstsemester.Financial Aid Information SessionStudents who are interested in attending acollege or university may attend a financial aidinformation session. Students will be providedwith resources and information regardingfederal and state aid.If there are special needs or accommodations for students using our services, please let us know when submitting a Service Request Form so we can make the appropriate arrangements beforehand.5

Becoming an El CaminoCollege StudentThe following pages outlined in this guidebook are free resourcesavailable to El Camino College students. Brief information will behighlighted regarding the services we offer as well as the contactinformation of each department should you have questions.11

Steps to EnrollmentStep 1: Apply Online Go online to www.elcamino.edu and select “Apply online” to file a collegeapplication. A student ID number and email will be issued within two to three business days aftersubmitting the application. Concurrent Enrollment : Students must apply every semester they plan on taking acourse at El Camino College.Step 2: Orientation and Preparation All new students are required to participate in an orientation regarding El CaminoCollege and its resources. Orientations can be accessed online via MyECC or in person at the counselingoffice.Step 3: Assessment Testing must be completed before registering for classes. No appointment necessary for English, ESL (Part 1) and math placement tests. Must have a valid photo ID and ECC ID number.Step 4: Educational Plan Students are required to meet with an El Camino College counselor prior to registrationin order to develop an educational plan. Schedule a counseling appointment via MyECC. Once all four steps are completed, you may begin registering for your classes. All fees must be pain in full by the deadline.12

Concurrent EnrollmentEl Camino College Board Policy 5060 allows concurrent enrollment only to students whohave successfully completed the 10th grade or to students who are currently enrolled in the11th or 12th grade. In addition, enrollment fees are waived for California residents. Nonresidents, out-of-state and out-of-country students will pay the appropriate tuition. Financial Aid and ScholarshipsEl Camino College has a strong commitment to ensuring accessibility to all ofits program and services to all students who are capable of benefiting fromsuch programs and services.Enrollment fee is ONLY 46 per unit for California Residents.Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA):Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first steptoward applying and receiving federal aid for college, technical school, orgraduate school. El Camino College will use FAFSA data to determine eligibilityfor state and school aid. All students are encouraged to complete and submit aFAFSA by March 2 of each year.Apply at: https://fafsa.ed.govBoard of Governers (BOG) Fee Waiver:California residents may apply for the California Community Colleges Board ofGovernors Fee Waiver (BOGFW), which waives the 46 per unit enrollmentfee. This fee waiver is for California residents, AB 540 students and eligible AB1899 students, as determined by the Admissions & Records Office. Students whomeet income and residency criteria may qualify.California Dream Act:The California Dream Act, became law through the passage of two AssemblyBills, AB 130 and AB 131.AB 130 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria (California Education Code68130.5(a)) to apply for and receive non-state funded scholarships forpublic colleges and universities.AB 131 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria toapply for and receive state-funded financial aid such asgrants, community college fee waivers, like the Board ofGovernors Grant (BOG), Cal Grant, and Chafee Grant.16

Career and Technical Education (CTE)El Camino College offers a variety of certificate programs. A Certificate ofAchievement is recorded on a student’s transcript, in contrast, a Certificate ofAccomplishment is not recorded on the transcript. Each of the programsrequires completion of courses in a particular field. Unlike degree programs,courses outside the field are not generally required.Certificate of Achievement Certificate of Achievement: is awarded to students who complete theprescribed program with a 2.0 grade point average. Certificate of Achievement with Honors: is awarded to students whocomplete the prescribed program with a 3.0 grade point average. Certificate of Achievement with High Honors: is awarded to students whocomplete the prescribed program with a 3.5 grade point average or above.Certificate of Accomplishment Certificate of Accomplishment: is awarded to students who complete the.prescribed program with a 2.0 grade point average or above.Each of the programs requires a substantial number of courses in a particularfield. Unlike degree programs, courses outside the field are not generallyrequired. For specific information, consult the El Camino College catalog andthe division dean in the area of interest.20

Career and Technical Education (CTE)The Career & Technical Education (CTE) program at El Camino College prepares studentsforemployment (Entry Pathway) or for future education (Skilled and Professional Pathways) in a career major or concentration. CTE courses are occupationally specific andtechnical in nature. There are 36 occupational programs offered at El Camino College. Transfer PathwayStudents who intend to transfer to a four-year college or university mustcomplete the admission requirements at the community college prior totransferring. Requirements vary among institutions. Therefore, students shouldbecome familiar with courses for: 1) general education, 2) major preparation,3) admission requirements to meet minimum eligibility and selective majors,and 4) grade point average (GPA) needed for admission.Admission requirements may change from year to year. It is to the student’sadvantage to select a transfer institution as early as possible and meet with anacademic counselor, transfer center adviser, the university representative,and/or articulation officer for updated information.Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)IGETC is a series of courses prospective transfer students attending acommunity college may complete to satisfy the lower division breadth/general education requirements at both the University of California andCalifornia State University. The IGETC must be completed prior to transfer. Theuniversities have an agreement with each of the California CommunityColleges that specifies which of the courses may be applied to each categoryof the IGETC. All courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.IGETC is most helpful to students who want to keep their options open. Certainmajors however will not be well served by following IGETC. Students whointend to transfer into majors that require extensive lower divisionpreparation, such as those in engineering or the physical and natural sciences,should concentrate on completing as many prerequisites for the major aspossible before es/co/transfer services/index.asp23

Transfer PathwayThe transfer process for an El Camino College student:High School Diploma orGEDAssociate DegreeBachelor’s DegreeStudents who receive a high school diplomaor G.E.D have obtained 12 years ofeducation or equivalent. This would placethem at a K-12 level. Students must havereceived a high school diploma or G.E.D tobe eligible for financial aid.A degree earned in completion of at least atwo-year program. Students who haveobtained an associate degree have completed 60 applicable units in general education and lower division major credits froma California Community College.Students have the opportunity to continue topursue their bachelor’s degree once theytransfer to a four-year university.Students who obtain a bachelor’sdegree have completed 160 units inboth general education, major (lowerand upper division) and elective units.This places them at a four-year collegeeducation level.24

Transfer PathwaysGeneral UC Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG)By participating in a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program, you will receive earlyreview of your academic records, early admission notification, and specific guidance aboutmajor preparation and general education coursework.TAG Requirement Agreement: You must meet the definition of aCalifornia Community College student.Complete at least 60 transferrablesemester units by the end of spring priorto fall admission.You can only TAG with one UC except forUCLA, UCB, and UCSD.i.Two UC transferable collegecourses in English Composition.ii. One UC transferable college coursein mathematical concepts.iii.
